Trust Me

Summary:

Obi-Wan and Satine get attacked by venom-mites. Obi-Wan reveals some of his past to Satine.

I do not commission fanart

Notes:

Hey guys! I decided to post some Obitine to comfort myself. I said that I would post my Obitine Week ideas, so here is Day 1, Trust Me. If any of you read my last fic "Given Up" my friend's mom texted me and she said that she said that her family was scheduling her for therapy, which is great! If you haven't read my last fic, all you need to know is that while I was typing the author's notes my friend tried to commit suicide. Thankfully she is still alive and like I said is going to go to therapy!

Anyways, happy reading! (Mando'a translations at the end)
:)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Obi-Wan!”

Obi-Wan briefly looked up from where he was struggling to fight off all of the small venom-mites swarming him and saw Satine trying to fight them off with a stun-blaster.

“I think that’s our signal to leave.” Obi-Wan remarked as he picked up Satine and carried her out of the moonlit hollow that they had taken shelter in, before the venom-mites came. There was a steep rocky hill just outside of the hollow that Obi-Wan rushed through, trying to get away from the venom-mites, tripping over a rock and dropping Satine. He saw Satine a little ways away and he helped her up, not trusting himself to not drop her again.

“Come on!” Obi-Wan told her as he helped Satine hurriedly limp away, taking a bit more time to go down the rest of the hill.

“Are you alright?” Obi-Wan asked as soon as they got away. “I’m fine di’kut.” Satine said briskly. It was at this moment that he knew, he kriffed up. “I’m so-” “Stow it.”

Obi-Wan and Satine hadn’t really been the closest during their mission and when they did talk, they were mainly arguing, but Obi-Wan did have to admit that she was a good person to have a debate with. Qui-Gon would roll his eyes now every time they started a new argument as even he was getting tired of it. Obi-Wan even learned Mando’a just so he could annoy her because he was very close to hating how she always got under his skin, even though he tried his best not to. She shouldn’t even be this angry at him for dropping her, it was an accident, he didn’t mean to!

Satine was almost equally as annoyed with the person that was supposed to be her cabur but also was incompetent enough to drop her and let her get a deep gash on her ankle. She wished Qui-Gon was there instead of this laandur oya’cye. Qui-Gon was more kind and felt more like a buir while Obi-Wan was more like that annoying vod that you absolutely hate. His seemingly endless sass was infuriating to say the least, and he would be almost dying and still be making jokes.

As the two travelled, Obi-Wan spotted a cave from the corner of his eye. “Come on, there’s a cave nearby.” Satine glared at him. “And how am I supposed to know that this cave isn’t full of venom-mites?” “You’ve got a better option?” Obi-Wan retorted. Satine scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Lead us to our deaths then.”

Obi-Wan ignored her as he led them towards the cavern. Satine sat on the floor as Obi-Wan ignited his lightsaber to make sure it was safe here. Satine pulled up her pant leg to get a better look at her ankle and she winced as she saw a deep gash. Obi-Wan’s eyes softened as he saw the injury, knowing that it was his fault.

“I can take a look at it, if you want me to.” Obi-Wan told Satine gently. “And how am I supposed to trust you?” Satine said, her gaze fixed on him in a furious glare. Obi-Wan sighed. “I’ll tell you something if you let me heal you. I haven’t told anyone about it before.” Satine dragged her eyes away from him to think about it for a moment before nodding. As Obi-Wan started cleaning her wound, he started to talk. “Well, I guess I should start off with the Bandomeer incident. When I was twelve, almost thirteen, none of the masters chose me to be their padawan, so I was sent to the AgriCorps. All of the masters said that I was too emotional, too angry, so off to Bandomeer I went. I eventually went to investigate something with a friend, and I got caught and was sent to be a slave in a deep-sea mine. Qui-Gon helped save me after I got thrown off of the platform as a punishment after someone said they saw me stealing so they could save themself when they told me something. We deactivated all of the slave collars and took a speeder to the Home Planet Mine. Xantos, Qui-Gon’s fallen apprentice, set off all of the Offworld cargo boxes to blow up at the same time. I used ionite to stop the clock, basically electrocuting myself in the process. Master Qui-Gon accepted me as his padawan after that.”

Obi-Wan paused in his story as he wrapped up Satine’s leg with bandages. After he was done, Satine got into a more comfortable position, facing toward the cave’s entrance, her soft gaze still on Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan sighed and continued his story, his gaze fixed on the moonlit terrain of Draboon.

“A few months after that, Qui-Gon and I were sent to rescue Master Tahl after she was captured by a faction called the Melida on the planet Melida/Daan. There were two factions on the planet, the Melida and the Daan, but there was a third faction, the Young, made up of the Elders' orphaned children who wanted to end the war. The Young helped Qui-Gon and me rescue Master Tahl, and I decided that I wanted to help the Young. Qui-Gon gave me the choice to either go with him and leave the Young or to leave the Order to help them. So I gave him my lightsaber and went to go help the Young while Qui-Gon went back to the Jedi. Eventually, Cerasi, one of the leaders of the Young, was shot and she died in my arms. Nield, the other leader of the Young, and the Elders used her death as a reason to continue the fighting. I contacted the Jedi to help and they sent Master Qui-Gon to help. He was able to bring the fighting to a close and I was accepted back into the Order, but it took a while for Master Qui-Gon to accept me as his padawan again.”

Obi-Wan looked to Satine to find her gazing at him sadly. “That’s awful, Ben.” She said somberly. Obi-Wan scoffed. “First of all, Ben? Where’d that come from? Second, most of it was my fault anyway, I was angry and impulsive and that’s why I was sent to Bandomeer. And the Melida/Daan thing? I should have convinced Master Qui-Gon to stay.” Obi-Wan sighed, looking at the floor. “There were a million things I could have done better, if only I wasn't such a failure, then I could have seen that then.” Satine looked at him sternly but earnestly. “Ben, you may be a pain in the shebs, but you are not a failure, and you don’t deserve to be a slave or to be left on a war-torn planet. And honestly, what was Qui-Gon thinking? What kind of master makes their padawan choose between helping children or the order that they were raised in and have known all of their life? He sounds like a complete shabuir.” Obi-Wan slowly looked up at Satine. “You really think so?” Satine nodded and Obi-Wan gave a slight smile. “Thanks.”

“No problem, di’kut.” Satine insulted him affectionately. Obi-Wan chuckled. “You still didn’t tell me where you got the name Ben from.” “You just seem like the Ben type of guy.” Satine smiled jokingly. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Obi-Wan asked, with a ridiculous confused face. Satine laughed quietly, sounding like a melody to Obi-Wan’s ears, “In some cultures, it means mountain, di’kut.”

Obi-Wan smiled as he looked back towards the setting moon. Satine put her head on his shoulder. “Thank you for taking care of my leg. And for opening up to me.” Obi-Wan’s face turned red. “Anytime.” Satine closed her eyes, soaking in the peace of the moment.

“Wait, Qui-Gon doesn’t know where we are.”

Satine’s eyes shot open as she remembered that Qui-Gon was out getting supplies when they got attacked.

“Shit.”
