Work Text:

Centuries ago, there was a young boy.

His name was Icarus
He had to live in a miserable life because of an injustice.

He had done nothing, just trusted his family and being loyal.

His Father Daedalus was an ingenior, being punished for creating an labyrinth which was normally impossible to break it through. Yet, one made it. And for this, he had been trap in his own maze. With his son.

In a more close past, there was another boy.
His name was Jason, not like the hero, he was just a boy, a kind one.

Yet as Icarus he had a bad childhood. Being born in the worst city ; Gotham.

His mother was the only person close to him, to loved him, protected him from the outsider or his own father.
But as myth showed, loved doesn’t protected eachother from eachother.
Jason had a kind mother, but she never protected him from herself. From her lied.

She wasn’t ok, she wasn’t always clean, she maybe tried, but Jason see her, he knew. He helped her when she was supposed to.

And the fate did their job. They cut her thread.

Jason had to live in his own maze. A one where he couldn’t eat everyday, couldn't drink everyday, couldn’t live everyday. Gotham was a maze to itself, anyone will told you that you don’t leave there; you’re surviving. A labyrinth which haunted you.

He was a young boy, but young doesn’t means fate would spare you.
However maybe it could give you a chance.

It gave him a chance.

Sometimes trying to survived, persevered to survive ,open to you a door.

In his case it was a car’s door. In ancient Greece, Nyx or the night, is always a bad omen, it’s the world of fear.
For Jason , living in the street, it was the case until the moment he come in the car.

This night he find something, something that was missing. Something that Icarus had : A mentor, a protector, and a father.

Bruce, Batman was for Jason what Daedalus was for Icarus. Of course it didn’t came immediatly, but when it came, it was like Elysium.

Being robin gave him wings. He was capable to fly in the sky, to live, to dream, to help, to be him.

Jason was a dreamer. Icarus was a dreamer. Jason was loyal. Icarus was loyal.

Jason believed in Robin, believed in his father, believed in his mother. Believed in his heart.
Meanwhile, Fate have a job, they know when cut the thread. Nobody choose or control the fate.

Jason was loyal, but he was also scared, imprudent and wanted to proved himself.
He didn’t wanted to lose his freedom.

Icarus flew to close to the sun, burned his wings.
Jason flew to far from his home.

You could say it was written somewhere, it was supposed to happen. I would answer that they were just two boys. Two young boys with big dream.

Maybe the gods thought the same.

They let Jason a chance. As the pheonix he roses from his ashes. Not to be a dreamer, to be a warrior.

Icarus and Jason were just boys when they died. People said by pride. I must answered it was by dream, hope.
However hope doesn’t exist in the Hades, in the afterlife.
