Summary
Most of the covenheads noticed the way Hunter would sometimes go in to talk to Emperor Belos and come out with mysterious injuries, but only some were disturbed by it. Raine Whisper’s understood the power play the Emperor loved to replicate, but they also understood how horrific it was for Hunter to be abused for so long. They had seen the Emperor on his good days and bad days; on the good days, the Golden Guard would go in to the dark, quiet room to speak to him, and come out with a determined look on his face. On the bad days, the Golden Guard would go in, and not even have to wait for the door hiding the dark secret of the Emperor to shut before the punishments began. On those days, Raine noticed the Guard would come out with his mask conveniently concealing his face, with his head strung low with a slight limp during the shuffle out the doorway, and how the man would jump at the slamming of the giant door behind him.
