Lucifer grumbled in frustration. He couldn’t find Mammon anywhere. Of course the scumbag decided to disappear just before Diavolo’s speech was to be delivered. So he personally couldn’t go off to look for him, as he needed to be by Diavolo’s side during and throughout the speech.
Lucifer sighed, shaking his head in disbelief.
As he found himself pondering on what to do, he spots Leviathan. The envy demon was currently on his D.D.D. playing some type of game, what surprised him was that the chihuahua, Luke, was watching intently on what Leviathan was doing. Lucifer ignored his indignation and walked directly towards them.
“Leviathan.” Lucifer spoke out, causing a jerk reaction to both parties. They both looked startled, Luke was seemingly about to say something before Lucifer held out his hand making him fully stop. “Mammon’s missing somewhere, unfortunately I can’t go tracking him down so I’m delegating the task to you two.” He states.
Leviathan mouth gaped. “I- I’m not wasting my time looking for that—“ he began which was shortly stopped at one glare from Lucifer. “Yeah yeah..” he muttered sheepishly.
“I’m not going to go look for a demon?!” Luke squeaked out loudly.
Lucifer ignored Luke. “Don’t loiter, and find him.” He informed Leviathan. “When you find Mammon, tell him to immediately come to me, or there will be dire consequences.”
Leviathan begrudgingly nodded. Lucifer stared at the two of them before abruptly turning to leave. They stared at Lucifer and then at themselves.
“Fu-“ Leviathan paused staring at Luke. “Funnel cakes…” he said instead. He sighed annoyed at the situation he found himself in. “Stupid Mammon…” he grumbled. Finally he looked at Luke, his brows furrowed. “Look- let’s just get this over with and I’ll let you take a turn on my game.”
Luke opened his mouth and furrowed his brows in indignation, before slightly lowering his brows and closing his mouth. He bit his lip, before begrudgingly nodding.
The two awkwardly embarked around the Demon Lord Castle looking for the greed demon. At times they awkwardly called out his name getting no response from the white hair demon. They trotted around, asking the others on the demon whereabouts.
Leviathan’s social battery was about dead, and as it decreased the more he got pissed at Mammon’s disappearance. It seemed like all hope was lost until the two stumbled onto Solomon.
Leviathan huffed, he sighed annoyed. “Look have you seen Mammon at all?” Leviathan closed his eyes preparing himself for rejection when Solomon responded.
“Oh I saw him a hour ago.” Solomon responded nonchalantly.
Luke head perked up. “Where is he?!” Luke demanded, chest all puffed up.
“Oh I saw Raphael and him head to the outside balcony in the corner.” Solomon responded. “Why?”
”Lucifer is looking for him.” Leviathan responded.
”Ah.” He said.
Leviathan exchanged looks with Luke. “Let’s go get that scumbag so then we can be free to do whatever we please.”
Luke nodded.
The two walked towards the location where Solomon mentioned. On the way Luke seemed to be in thought.
“I never knew Raphael and Mammon were close enough to be talking to each other alone.” Luke stated.
Leviathan paused. “Well…they used to talk to each other back while we were angels.”
Luke glanced at Leviathan with a curious look on his face. “Really?” He asked his voice filled with surprised.
Leviathan just nods. “I just don’t know what the contents of their conversations were about. Surprisingly the idiot Mammon was able to keep that a secret…somehow.”
Luke hummed in thought.
The two kept silence as they continued towards the general direction that Mammon was supposed to be. As they got closer, they heard muffle conversations of a familiar voice. Both Leviathan and Luke perked up, they exchanged glances. The closer they got the more vivid the conversation became.
Mammon was rambling, occasionally Raphael would jump in to offer whatever commentary he wanted. Luke was about to walk forward, probably to inform Mammon of Lucifer’s demand before Leviathan pulled him back. Luke glanced up confused. Leviathan just put his finger up to his mouth, and motioned into making a shushing motion. Luke lips curled into a frown he shook his head, obviously not wanting to ease drop in an obvious personal conversation.
‘What’s the worse that can happen?’ Leviathan mouthed.
Luke faltered before bitting his lips. The cherub obviously conflicted in the matter, but something was wrong with the whole concept of Mammon and Raphael, out of everyone, to be conversing with one another. So despite his ever so persistent morals, he resided to ease dropping. Luke figured that he could just bake something for the two afterwards as an apology gift.
At that Leviathan knew Luke was subdued, with that matter done, he turned his attention towards Mammon. Whatever happens during this conversation brings into light would be perfect blackmail material that Leviathan could use against Mammon to make the greed demon finally repay his debt. And plus after all that effort he put into looking for the demon, it wouldn’t hurt to get some dirt as repayment.
“—And then Lucifer came out of nowhere- and genuinely I thought he was gonna kill me.” Mammon turned to Raphael, his expression flattened. “N’ yer not listenin’ to me.”
Raphael cringed, his brows were pursed and lips were a slight pout. He felt guilty in his own way, Mammon supposed.
“Justa say wha ya wanna say.” Mammon said turning his face away from Raphael.
There was silence before a sigh came out.
“Why aren’t you replying to his letters?” Raphael asked softly, atleast softly considering what he’s like.
“Wha letters?” Mammon asked.
Raphael’s lips thinned and curled into a deep frown. “Don’t do that, Mammon.”
“Do what-?!” Mammon snarled back.
Raphael looked straight into his eyes and without a moment of hesitation, “don’t lie to Micheal.”
A flicker of emotions, like conflict, anger- fear, all appeared in a second before Mammon closed himself off. He doesn’t respond.
“His patience is wearing thin.” Raphael continued. “Mammon.” He said sternly trying to get some type of response.
“What are ya-? ‘Is messager?” Mammon bit back, annoyed at the conversation. “Actually- I’m not gonna talk ‘bout him with ya! Ya always fuckin’ defend him.” He hissed at Raphael, hiding his hurt the best as he can.
“Mammon he didn’t mean that- Micha- no Micheal would never- he cares so much about you-“ he hissed out, gritting his teeth.
Raphael didn’t respond. He just looked seldom.
Finally Mammon seemed to have the courage to look at Raphael. Mammon wanted to be angry- he wanted to show his frustration towards the angel but faltered with Raphael obvious tired expression.
Mammon sighed, combing a hand through his hair. “How is he treating ya…?”
Raphael looked thoughtful. He lowered his gaze. “Sometimes…when he’s desperate he makes me pretend that I’m you, before you turned.”
Mammon gave an incredulous look to Raphael, he quickly regained his composure. “Turned…” Mammon said bitterly. “What a fun choice of words.” He took a deep breath and sighed, returning the conversation back to the topic. “But other than that he treats ya fine?”
Raphael shrugged. “He treats me how he always has, a servant for his disposal.” He paused and looked thoughtful. “Although he’s…kinder these days. Luke is the reason.”
Mammon groaned in annoyance, head slumping down. He buried his head in his face.
“Luke, he’s like you in a way.” Raphael continued. “I think that’s why Michael is interested in him.” He said quietly.
That seemed to piss him even more. “Why r’ ya tellin’ me this?”
Raphael paused, he opened his mouth and stopped. He stilled and avoided Mammon’s gaze. “I don’t know.”
Mammon scoffed. “That’s all ya seem ta know how ta say.” He said bitterly.
The two stood in silence.
“Why does all of our conversations always end up revolving around him?” Mammon asked quietly.
Raphael didn’t respond.
Okay Leviathan had a lot to process. He quickly glanced to Luke who had the most worrisome expression he ever seen from the angel.
The cherub was unconsciously holding onto Leviathan’s jacket, like he was anchoring himself to reality. Once he realized what was happening he quickly detached himself, clearly embarrassed at what he just did.
Usually Leviathan would jump at the opportunity to tease the young angel but he was rather occupied with his own feeling. And unfortunately for him he rather felt a lot of envy towards the whole matter.
It was sickening but truthfully Leviathan was rather envious towards Mammon’s vulnerability with Raphael of all people. Despite his cheerful demeanor, it’s a well known fact with all the brothers that when it came to true vulnerability Mammon was the last of them to open up. Yet despite that fact, here was Mammon being vulnerable with Raphael, an angel of all people, instead of his own brothers.
Instead of him.
But then again, they aren’t as close as they were back in the Celestial Realm. But then again, even during their time in the Celestial Realm, Mammon was always distant—
Leviathan gritted his teeth and just swallowed down his envy, holding it all in for him to lash about it later. What he needed to do was focus on the information he was given.
Thinking about it now, Leviathan always did notice that Micheal was strange around Mammon. He was always insistent while Mammon seems to dull around him. He remembers asking Mammon about the interaction, which then as cue he would always change the subject.
Before Leviathan could deep further, Mammon walked out of the balcony and towards the halls. Mammon paused and just stared at the both of them. He looked unimpressed and unsurprised. He just sighed and slumped a little. Mammon looked beyond exhausted.
“Lucifer lookin’ fer me?” Mammon asked.
That snapped the two out of their trance. Luke lowered his gaze, his cheeks flushing out of shame. Leviathan just stared. Luke glanced at Leviathan and seeing his lack of charge took over.
“Uhh! Yes!” Luke squeaked out.
Leviathan, himself personally couldn’t speak. Something about his envy and the hint of shame he was feeling was prohibiting him from speaking. Instead Leviathan quietly followed Mammon and Luke, who somehow despite the fact that they were caught red-handed managed to have a conversation with Luke.
He seemed normal but something was wrong. Leviathan knew it.
Taking a quick glance back, he saw Raphael also exiting the balcony, deliberately going the opposite direction of the way they were going. He looked absolutely more miserable than usual. Something was wrong.
It wasn’t long before they found Lucifer.
Leviathan could tell Lucifer wanted to rip Mammon to shreds due to his sudden disappearance. However all that anger vanished when he laid eyes on Mammon. His gaze harden at the greed demon, before turning his attention towards the other two.
“Leviathan, Luke.” Both of them perked up. “You’re dismissed.”
Luke gave a worried look at Mammon, defiance at the tip of his tongue before Leviathan nodded and dragged Luke away.
“I—“ the cherub began.
“Mammon’s going to be fine.” Leviathan states, he pulled his D.D.D, inputting his password and wordlessly handed his phone to Luke.
Luke stared at the D.D.D and then stared at Leviathan and back to the device.
Lucifer was leaning into Mammon, whispering something. Mammon was rubbing his eyes. The two walked away to discuss whatever they need to in private. Leviathan felt his envy grow, however he didn’t know from which side this envy is directed towards.
“Levi…” Luke asked softly.
Leviathan turned his gaze towards Luke. “Hmph?”
Luke lips quivered a bit, pausing momentarily to . “The things about Micheal—?”
”I don’t know.” Leviathan answered, his voice all deflated.
“Huh…” Luke muttered.
“Yep…huh…” Leviathan echoed back, his voice a bit dry.
They fell into silence again. Leviathan stared at the spot where Lucifer and Mammon were. Luke stared at Leviathan before returning his focus onto the screen.
Eventually Simeon came to pick up Luke, who then gave Leviathan back his D.D.D, leaving Leviathan alone with his thoughts. Leviathan was so consumed with his thoughts that he didn’t notice someone sit down next to him.
“How long have ya been listenin’ ta me ‘n Raphael convo?” Mammon asked.
Leviathan flinched and turned his head towards the left to see Mammon sitting next to him. He looked tired, and his eyes seemed a bit puffy. Leviathan looked away, his shame finally catching onto him.
“I listened to the important stuff.” He states.
Mammon sighed and bit his lip nervously.
“What happened?” Leviathan asked. “If you don’t mind me asking!” He added quickly at the end.
Mammon sighed again and slumped back. He took a deep breath in and out, before staring at the ground.
“Micheal is…an envious angel.” He stated. “I don’t ‘now how it began but by the time I came inta existence- his self worth was bad.”
Leviathan eyes widened at the information, his mouth opening slightly. He always remembered Micheal to always being a straightforward and secure angel. Insecure and Micheal was not a common thought when thinking about the angel, but here was Mammon saying he is.
“I used to idolize him, after all- he’s…my brother.” Mammon whispered, he was starting to shake. “Plus it didn’t help that when I was a lil’ cherub I was weak.”
“Weak?” Leviathan questioned.
Mammon nodded. “Apparently I got sick so bad ‘n often that even the big guy got worried. I- er was real dependent on him, but as I grew the stronger I became ‘till a point where I didn’t need that much help as I used to.” Mammon paused, his gaze sharpened, he had a deep hollow look in his eyes that Leviathan didn’t like. It didn’t suit him, yet here he was exhibiting the stare in front of him.
“Micheal didn’t like that.” He stated, numbly. “He used ta… call me stupid and weak- like he was tryin’ ta bring me down- like he was tryin’ ta ensure I still needed him…” he mumbled.
Leviathan stared. Mammon was shaking so hard, he truly never seen Mammon like this. It made him uncomfortable, how bad did Micheal hurt Mammon? How bad could he have done to make Mammon response like that at just the thought of him?
”But that wasn’t enough.” Mammon continued. “He just had ta-“ he grit his teeth. “Micheal gave me these…‘medicine’ that was supposed to keep me healthy.”
Leviathan heart dropped. “What.”
Mammon flinched at the tone of his voice. “I-…” He stammered, turning away quickly.
Shit. Mammon was actually starting to tearing up. He didn’t mean for that to slip up. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “Sorry- that wasn’t aimed towards you.”
“S’okay.” Mammon muttered.
Mammon didn’t have to say anything else. The implication was already there. And truthfully, Leviathan couldn’t bear to hear the words actually coming out of his mouth.
He glanced at Mammon and frowned. Mammon was still shaking. Awkwardly he slowly inched to Mammon before he wrapped his hand around Mammon’s giving him a tight squeeze.
Mammon froze for a moment before his muscles finally seemed to partly relax. He took a deep breath in and out. “Micheal started writin’ me letters a couple of years after the Fall. I haven’t responded or read any of them.” He paused. “I think- no I know if I do… a stupid part of me is gonna be swept in his arms cuz of nostalgia- and cuz despite everything…I still love him.” He admits. “I still love the bastard after all he done, and I hate myself for it.” He managed to say, his voice shaking.
Leviathan grip on Mammon’s hand tightened.
“Does Lucifer know about this.” He finally asked.
Mammon nods. “He helped me get away from him.” He said quietly.
Leviathan stared at Mammon, who in return stared at the floor. “I’m sorry.” He founded himself saying.
“Fer what?”
”That you had to go through that.” He said softly.
Mammon paused, finally looking up from the floor and to Leviathan’s gaze. His gaze softened momentarily and gave a small smile. “Thanks, Levi.” He whispered, as he cautiously leaned his head on Leviathan’s shoulder.
Leviathan flinched at the sudden gesture before leaning into it. “You’re welcome.” He whispered back.
