Chapter Text
They were finally gonna leave, get to go home. Leo was so tired, sweaty and sore. He looked over to see if Jason was fine, it had been a long day. The blonde boy seemed fine, tired maybe but mostly fine. Everyone was tired, stumbling around and maybe that’s where everything went wrong. He wasn't looking where he had been stepping.
It was all a blur, one second, he was about to start walking away from the pit, and the next… He tripped, on a rock maybe. Does it really matter? All he knew was that he was falling backward. Toward the pit.
There was screaming, so much screaming. He didn’t know how much of it was his own. His hand landed on a rock, that was the only thing keeping him from falling into the darkness. He tried to climb back up, only to be unsuccessful.
Jason reached for him, hell, everyone was reaching for him, only Leo had fallen too far down before catching himself. He was just out of reach.
“Leo just hold on! We’ve got you!”
Jason yelled, honestly Leo barely heard it, too focused on the fact he was about to fall to his death. He truly did want to believe it, but his grip was slipping, he couldn’t hold on for long.
“Jason I can’t!”
His voice cracked with the sentence. The look on Jason’s face was almost too much for him to bear, he really didn’t think someone could look so full of despair. But he couldn’t dwell on it, he lost his grip.
It seemed too quick, the way Jason jumped after him seemingly without even thinking, his arms wrapping around the scrawny boy like he was scared he’d disappear, and maybe he would. Leo just whispered.
“You idiot.”
Leo could barely hear his own thoughts with how fast they were falling. Now you might think that would mean they’d be at the bottom soon, but no. It felt like they were falling for eternity.
Every now and then, Leo would look down and see pitch black. Just so much darkness. He knew they wouldn’t survive this. He was certain. But selfishly, he was fine with dying as long as he stayed in Jason’s arms.
Even with that thought, Leo felt a pang of horror when he saw the bottom of the pit. He let out a little sob, obviously Jason didn’t hear it but he must have felt it since he tightened his arms around Leo
The moment they hit the ground Leo blacked out, his life flashed before his eyes. Every foster family, the wilderness school, meeting Jason and Piper, falling in love, arriving at Camp Half-Blood. All of it. Gods he wished he had the chance to say goodbye. What had Piper been thinking? He was so focused on Jason and surviving that it hadn't even crossed his mind. She was losing her two best friends/
Then everything really faded to black.
He wasn’t sure how long he was out for, but when he finally opened his eyes, Jason was already awake and sitting beside Leo holding his hand. He was bruised and bleeding but alive. That's all that mattered to Leo. He had a black eye which is what Leo noticed first, though it didn't make him any less beautiful to the boy.
“You’re awake!”
Leo tried to sit up immediately fell back; the pain was unbearable. He felt like he had been stampeded by elephants, not that he put much thought into how that may feel.
“Just lay down, it’s ok. You’ll be ok. I’ve got you.”
Jason whispered in support, even though he must have been terrified, he was still taking the time to comfort Leo.
The smaller boy looked around, it was awful, completely indescribable. He didn’t know what he expected of Tartarus, but it definitely wasn’t this. He didn’t know how they’d survive this or even if they would.
How would they find food or water? Or even shelter from whatever lurks in the depths of this hellhole. Didn't exactly look like a place filled with lush forests and fruit they could snack on. Though he knew one thing for sure.
This was no place for a living breathing demigod.
