Miraculous: The Dark Knight's Light

Summary:

Marinette Dupain-Cheng thought her biggest secret was being Ladybug, the hero of Paris. But when a mysterious threat from Gotham makes its way to her city, everything she thought she knew begins to unravel.

And things get even more complicated when billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, owner of Wayne Enterprises, arrives in Paris for a fashion show, and seems to have more than business on his mind.

Notes:

I figured I would try and pull a crossover between these two for quite a while. I apologise in advance if I end up messing some lore of both fandoms.

Before we start, I wanna make some things clear:
Marinette is 17 years old.

The story takes place after Season 5 of Miraculous Ladybug.

Chapter 1: Paris' New Bat

Chapter Text

The sun was shining in Paris, the birds were chirping, and Ladybug and Cat Noir had just defeated the villain of the week.

As she watched the corrupted butterfly disappear into the sky, she let out a relieved sigh, twirling her yo-yo before clipping it back to her belt.

"Another akuma down, another crisis averted," she said, glancing toward her partner, who was busy striking a dramatic pose for no one in particular.

"Another day saved thanks to teamwork and irresistible charm," Cat Noir added with a grin, brushing imaginary dust off his suit.

Ladybug rolled her eyes but couldn't help smiling. "You mean my teamwork and your chaos."

Before he could come up with a witty comeback, her earrings beeped, time was running short. "I'll see you later, Kitty. Try not to get into trouble."

"No promises, Bugaboo," he called out, waving as she vaulted away across the rooftops.

The Parisian skyline gleamed beneath the midday sun, the kind of peaceful light that made it easy to forget how often the city had been brought to its knees. Marinette landed quietly on an empty roof, de-transforming in a swirl of pink sparkles. Tikki hovered beside her, eyes bright and curious.

"That was a close one," Marinette said, wiping sweat from her forehead. "If that akuma had hit another building, we'd have been cleaning up for hours."

Tikki nodded. "You handled it perfectly! But something felt... strange about that butterfly."

Marinette frowned, tilting her head. "Strange how?"

"It wasn't just infused with the butterfly miraculous."  Tikki murmured, thinking. "There was... something else."

Marinette blinked. "Do you have a clue?"

Tikki shook her head. "No, but I am telling you it was different, Marinette."

"Let's get home, Tikki. And get you something to eat." Marinette suggested, softly which prompted a smile from Tikki.

She tucked her yo-yo back into her purse and took a careful breath, letting the weight of Ladybug slip away as she hopped down from the roof. A few alleyways later, the familiar scent of fresh bread and sugar welcomed her home.

The little bell above the Dupain-Cheng Bakery door chimed as she stepped inside. The afternoon rush had just ended, but the place still smelled heavenly, warm croissants, chocolate, and something fruity cooling on the counter.

"Marinette! You're home, sweetheart," Sabine called from behind the counter, wiping her hands on her apron.

"Hey, Maman," Marinette greeted with a tired smile. "Busy day?"

"Always," Tom said cheerfully as he emerged from the kitchen, holding a tray piled high with macarons. "But not as busy as your days, I bet!"

Marinette laughed nervously, brushing a stray hair behind her ear. "Oh, you know... just school, design work, the usual."

Tikki peeked out from Marinette's purse, sniffing the air with obvious delight. Marinette slipped behind the counter and opened one of the drawers discreetly, pulling out a small cookie she'd hidden there.

"For you, Tikki," she whispered softly, setting it near her bag before heading upstairs.

"Thanks, Marinette!" the kwami chirped before diving in.

Up in her room, sunlight spilled through the skylight, glinting off fabric rolls, thread spools, and half-finished designs pinned neatly to her board. Marinette dropped her purse on the desk chair and stretched with a long sigh.

"Well," she uttered, flopping back onto her chaise. "That's one crisis over."

Tikki floated above her, still munching contentedly. "You did amazing today! But I can't stop thinking about that akuma... It really didn't feel like anything we've faced before."

Marinette sat up, thoughtful. "You think someone's helping whoever is holding the butterfly miraculous?"

"I don't know," Tikki admitted, her tiny brow furrowing. "But it felt... unnatural. Like it wasn't just magic. Something else was influencing it."

Marinette frowned, reaching for her laptop. "Maybe I can check the footage Alya uploaded. There might be a clue."

But before she could start, her phone buzzed, another Breaking News alert flashing across the screen:

WAYNE ENTERPRISES CEO BRUCE WAYNE ARRIVES IN PARIS FOR INTERNATIONAL FASHION TECH EXPO.

Marinette raised a brow. "Fashion Tech? Since when does a billionaire from Gotham care about fashion?"

Tikki giggled. "Maybe he's just here for the croissants."

Marinette smirked, scrolling through the article. "Well, whatever he's doing here, I hope he enjoys Paris while it's peaceful for once."

Outside, the bell over the bakery door chimed again, this time accompanied by the low rumble of a sleek black car pulling up to the curb.

The door opened and two boys emerged, one around Marinette's age and the other, around 13-14 walked into the bakery.

"Hello there, welcome to the Dupain-Cheng bakery. What would you two boys like?" Sabine assured, greeting with a smile.

The older boy smiled politely, glancing around at the display case filled with pastries. "It all smells amazing. We were hoping to grab something sweet before the Expo starts."

Sabine beamed. "Then you've come to the right place! Everything here is fresh from the oven."

The younger boy beside him gave a skeptical look, crossing his arms. "Do they have black coffee?"

His brother sighed. "Damian, it's a bakery, not a café."

"I asked a question, Tim," the boy muttered, voice clipped and sharp.

Sabine blinked in mild surprise at the formality between them, but her smile didn't falter. "We do have coffee, dear. And perhaps a croissant to go with it?"

Damian hesitated, then nodded stiffly. "If you insist."

Sabine laughed softly and went to prepare their order while the older boy looked over the counter again, clearly impressed. "My dad's going to love this place," he said under his breath.

Just then, Marinette came down the stairs, tying her hair into a messy bun and brushing flour off her hands. "Maman, do you need any help with..." She froze halfway through her sentence when she spotted the customers.

The older one turned, his blue eyes bright and friendly. "Hey there. You work here?"

Marinette blinked, suddenly aware of the flour smudge on her cheek. "Oh! Yeah, I uh live here too. Family bakery."

He smiled. "It's a nice place. I'm Tim, and this grumpy one's my little brother, Damian."

"I'm not grumpy," Damian replied flatly. "I'm observant."

Marinette fought back a laugh. "Well, nice to meet you both. I'm Marinette."

Sabine returned with their drinks and a small box of pastries. "Here you go, dears! On the house, you two seem new to Paris."

Tim accepted it with an appreciative grin. "Thank you so much, ma'am. We're just here for a few days. My father's in town for some business meetings."

"Oh? Maybe for the Fashion Tech Expo?" Marinette asked casually.

"Yeah," Tim stated, glancing at Damian. "He's... involved in that."

Marinette nodded, completely unaware of just how involved he was. "Well, welcome to Paris. Hope your dad's business goes well."

As the two boys left, the little bell chimed again. Through the bakery window, Marinette caught a brief glimpse of the sleek black car waiting for them at the curb, and the man who stepped out to open the door for them.

Marinette blinked, momentarily caught by the feeling that she'd seen that face somewhere before. But the car door closed, and the vehicle slipped into traffic, vanishing down the street.

Tikki peeked out of Marinette's purse. "That man looked serious. Who do you think he was?"

Marinette shrugged, shaking off the odd feeling. "Probably just some rich CEO or something."

The flashes of cameras lit up the front entrance of Le Grand Paris Hotel, each strobe reflecting off sleek black cars lined along the curb. The city's heartbeat thrummed with excitement, reporters, journalists, and onlookers crowded behind the barriers, murmuring with anticipation.

For weeks, headlines had been buzzing: "Gotham's Bruce Wayne brings Wayne Enterprises to Paris." The billionaire's visit had sparked speculation ranging from business expansion to rumored partnerships with top designers.

A sleek WayneTech limousine pulled up to the red carpet. The crowd surged forward, voices rising as the door opened and Bruce Wayne stepped out.

Tailored suit. Sunglasses. That effortless, disarming smile. The kind of man who looked perfectly at ease no matter where he was, whether it was a Gotham gala or a Parisian press frenzy.

"Mr. Wayne! Over here!" shouted one of the reporters.
"Is Wayne Enterprises planning to invest in Fashion Design?" another called.
"What do you think of Paris, sir?"

Bruce offered a charming smile as he adjusted his cufflinks. "Beautiful city," he said smoothly, his voice carrying the calm authority of someone used to attention. "And full of potential."

His bodyguard, Alfred, stood nearby, nodding politely to a few photographers before leaning in discreetly. "Sir, the hotel's ready."

Bruce gave a small nod, though his gaze drifted past the flashing cameras to the skyline beyond.

Marinette watched the whole thing on TV, sitting cross-legged on her chaise with a half-eaten croissant in hand. The news anchor's voice carried over the footage:

"Billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne has officially arrived in Paris for the upcoming International Fashion Tech Expo, where he's rumored to collaborate with several of France's leading designers."

Sabine joined Marinette, resting her chin in her palm, clearly mesmerized. Marinette took notice of this.

"You like what you see, mum?" Marinette teased.

Sabine chuckled softly, her cheeks tinting pink. "Well, who doesn't? He's quite the gentleman, and look at that suit! Such class."

Marinette laughed, setting down her croissant. "Maman, you're married!"

Sabine waved a hand dismissively. "I'm appreciating style, dear. Your father could learn a thing or two about ironing his shirts."

From the kitchen, Tom's voice boomed, "I heard that!"

Marinette giggled as her mother stifled a laugh. "But he still looks the same."

Marinette blinked, nearly choking on her croissant. "Wait, what?! You met Bruce Wayne? As in, Gotham's Bruce Wayne? Billionaire, playboy, that Bruce Wayne?"

Sabine smiled sheepishly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "It was nothing big, dear. Just a brief encounter years ago. He was very polite, very charming. I was helping a friend with a catering event at Le Grand Paris, he was one of the guests."

Marinette's jaw dropped. "So, you served pastries to Bruce Wayne and never mentioned it?"

Sabine laughed softly. "It didn't seem that important at the time. He was just a young man, still learning the ropes of his family business. Quiet, actually. Not what people make him out to be now."

Tom peeked in from the kitchen, still holding a tray of cooling baguettes. "Who are you talking about?"

Sabine turned toward him with a teasing smile. "Apparently, the man I once met in Paris before I met you."

Tom's eyebrows shot up. "What man?"

Marinette quickly interjected before her parents could spiral into playful bickering. "It's just Bruce Wayne, Papa. You know, the billionaire from Gotham who's in town for the Expo."

Tom frowned for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Ah, that guy! Rich, handsome, charming... I don't like him already."

Sabine swatted him lightly with a dish towel as Marinette stifled a laugh.
