I just wanted to be me. But what choice did I have?
My father would do nothing but control me, my mother could do nothing but watch me. Classmates would do nothing but mock me, and my few allies could do nothing but try to stop me from doing something stupid.
He tried to keep me away. Someone unaware of the alternative remains complacent. But it didn’t work.
If you can’t fight fire with fire, you can’t fight blood with blood.
That was the first string cut. But the one around my neck still held strong.
I just want to be me. But what choice do I have, when me is a myth and the husk of what could’ve been me still walks, empty?
When the burden of life weighs me down because it has yet to let go when everyone else has?
