Work Text:
The sun lit up the room, basking the two men within it with a rosy glow. The younger of the two awoke with a groan, shifting instinctively closer to the other’s warmth. Then, as his thoughts settled into place, he remembered where he was. He quietly pulled himself away from the other man, careful to not disturb his slumber.
After maneuvering out of bed, he creeped about the room silently. It paid off knowing where all the creaky floor boards were, as he slipped on both a shirt and pair of briefs without so much as a sound emanating from the floor. Before leaving the room, the now partially dressed man turned towards the other in the bed. He pressed a soft kiss to the other man’s head, causing his slumbering partner to hum contently in his sleep, a small smile now resting on his face.
As slowly as ever, the younger man left the room, letting the other sleep a little longer. He knew that Francis didn’t awake at the crack of dawn as he did, as his partner simply wasn’t a morning person. It was the English who were known as the empire where the sun never set after all. Arthur was used to his schedule so he could rule everything, it wasn't anyone’s fault that France never acquired enough land to develop the habit.
Turning into the kitchen, he set to work. He brewed coffee for himself and his sleeping “beauty”, putting a frying pan onto the stove top and turning on the element, along with getting all the ingredients for breakfast together.

It is fair to say that when the other man left to slumber in the rosy lighting of the bedroom awake, it was to the faint sound of sizzling and the smell of a meal being prepared. He arose from the bed quite clumsily compared to the other. The older man then tended to the bed, straightening it out so his partner would not be upset. Grabbing a robe hanging from the door and draping it on his body, he stumbled down the hall to the kitchen, in order to determine what smell was emanating from the.
Lo and behold, that when he reached the main room, lighted by the sun stood the younger man, cracking eggs into a pan. The older of the two walked up behind the one who was cooking and hugged him from behind. He buried his face into the other man’s neck, momentarily tempted to add another mark to the collection that was already present. However he decided against it, seeing as the younger man was still dealing with a hot stove. Arthur gently pushed the older man away, in the direction of the coffee machine, before turning his attention back to the eggs in front of him. The older one of the two had no complaints, slowly making his way to the coffee machine to pour his first mug of the morning.
Most of their mornings were like this when they spent the previous night together. People wouldn’t believe them when they described the quiet tranquil breakfasts they shared. After all their constant blabbering, no one believed that they could spend so much time in silence together. But, as Francis sat down with his mug, and Arthur put an actually appetizing omelet in front of him then served himself, they both continued their calm silence into their meal.
As time progressed they finished their meals, putting away the dishes and settling into their places at the table. The older man picked up his book and picked up from where he had left off the previous morning, while the other picked up his embroidery and noiselessly continued his pattern.
The sun rose further into the sky as time passed. Francis could see the younger man’s face become more illuminated by the sun rising behind his back. The man’s hair glowing a vibrant orange in the rosy light. He couldn’t help but smirk at the view. Raising an eyebrow, the other man silently questioned him. To which he responded by getting up, grabbing his mug, walking over to the opposite side of the table and pressing a soft kiss along the other man's jaw bone.
While the younger man turned pink to complement his orange hair, the older one entered the kitchen, and refilled his mug of coffee. Returning to the table, he silently grabbed the other man and brought him to the couch, making him sit on his lap facing him. He ran his hands softly down the other one’s back, settling on his waist. Arthur seized up slightly, before relaxing into the other man’s touch.
After making sure the young man was comfortable, he pulled him into a soft embrace, kissing him softly on the forehead. In a quiet tone, Francis broke the quiet of the morning. Speaking into the other man’s shoulder, he spoke.
“Bon matin mon cher.”
