Summary
Ilya Rozanov is dying.
Not from injury or a mate bond rejection, but from a rare form of rejection sickness caused by a lifetime of emotional abandonment. His omega mama was the only person who ever loved him unconditionally. After her death, he was left with a cold, emotionally distant father who valued performance over affection, and a brother who only contacted him when he wanted something.
Over the years, repeated rejection and a lack of meaningful attachment have caused a gradual deterioration in Ilya's bond instincts.
Ilya stopped believing there was any point in letting anyone get close. He was broken. No one would want an alpha like him. He lets the rejection sickness feed on his loneliness and destroy the bonds that connected him to people.
He gets traded to Ottawa, and the Captain, Shane Hollander decides that Ilya belongs there. To Ilya’s annoyance, he thinks he sees something good in Ilya and refuses to stop showing up for him.
The only way to overcome the rejection sickness is by welcoming genuine acceptance, belonging and emotional attachment.
Ilya has no interest in being saved.
