Chapter Text
“And Jay and Nya are married.”
“Gross, but okay.” Jay didn’t mean to say that, and yet he did. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her disappointed reflection in the giant screen of the administration’s monitor.
“Done!”
That was a day ago, now they were stuck in the weird land of Lee. He wasn’t even sure if Arin’s parents truly were in there, but he wouldn’t tell others, Jay really didn’t want to disappoint Nya again. It was hard to explain, his heart was telling him that her words were the truth about his past, but he couldn’t let himself trust anyone again.
“Jay, are you even listening?” The Raven-haired woman huffed and annoyed.
“Huh? You were saying sometin’?” He flashed her that insufferable grin that ruled her up more.
“Ugh, you’re sleeping on the floor.”
“WHAT?! Why me?!” He whined, no way he was helping them AND sleeping on the floor.
“Because, there’s only one bed and I’m sleeping in it. Lloyd took the couch and Wyldefyre always sleeps on the floor anyway, so you don’t have any other options.” Her arms crossed.
“Then let’s share.” Brunette said so matter-of-the-facts, Nya scanned his face so he added: “Stop looking at me like that, weirdo. I just don’t feel like sleeping on the floor.”
“Fine then.”
He didn’t expect her to agree so fast, not that he minded it.
The first night was the worst night Jay remembered, which wasn’t hard because he barely had any memories. For Nya it wasn’t the best either, sleeping next to Jay, who wasn’t her Jay anymore, was a terrible experience. Their backs were turned to each other the whole time as they laid stiffly, too tense to move even an inch. Brunette fell asleep first, but it wasn’t for too long, as he was soon awakened by his nightmares. He had them since shattering his goodness, it was as if someone else lived in his body and woke up only at night to keep him up with bad thoughts. He sat on the bed, leaning against the headboard for another few hours, watching Nya sleep, steady rise and fall of her back as she breathed, slowly making him fall asleep again. In the meantime she dreamed the same dream like every night, beautiful memories of her past Jay, his love that felt like getting wrapped in a soft blanket, their yin-yang promise… everything they had, that the merge ripped from them without a warning. If she knew it would end like this, she wouldn’t let him fly alone in that mech, instead she would hold his hand tight, praying to not lose him… But she didn’t get that chance.
In the morning, all four of them sat on the wooden terrace, drinking tea in the light of the fake sun on a fake sky. Raven-haired girl still couldn’t believe people living here weren’t bothered about the unchanging weather, personally she would go nuts, but fortunately they were here only to find Arin's parents. Hopefully it won’t take too long.
“How did you sleep guys?” Lloyd asked, sipping from his mug.
“It wasn’t that bad-” Nya started, but Jay chimed in:
“It was awful. I’m gonna charge you more for that.”
“Maybe you should’ve slept on the couch then.” She huffed.
“And maybe you shouldn’t have taken the whole blanket.” He said in the same tone as hers. Lloyd sighed.
“Well, I slept nice. They’ve got a comfy floor here, well not as comfy as a dragon's nest but great.” Wyldefyre answered proudly, ignoring older ones bickering in the background.Blonde boy smiled softly.
“At least one of us slept well.”
“So what's the plan, greenie?” Jay asked when he and Nya finally calmed down.
“I think we will go to places we think they would like.” Lloyd said uncertainly.
“That sounds stupid” he answered.
“I agree with the evil ponytail guy.” Wyldfyre agreed, nodding her head like she was deep in thoughts, even though she probably wasn't thinking about anything except meeting with Roby again.
“Hey!”
“Guys stop! Lloyd’s right. We don't have any more clues.” The older girl looked at the card with all the activities in the Land of Lee, which was quite a lot. “We will have to split.”
The green ninja pointed at one proposition on the paper: “Hmm… I might take a look at the reading club.”
“I can't read so I will take the party.” The red-haired girl shrugged.
“Then me and Jay will take the dancing class and maybe something more, we will see”
“Wait, why do we have to go together?”
“Because we are married? It would be strange if we split”
“I hate to admit it but you're right, lady.”
Nya smiled slightly when the brunette agreed with her.. Lloyd stood up and before leaving he said: “And remember not using your real names.”
“Ugh.” Nya groaned, she really didn't want to. Maya Mc CoolGuy? That doesn't sounded good, guess that's what she gets for letting Jay speak first.
“Their TV doesn't even work! What do they do here in their free time?” Jay whined from the couch, clicking on the remote which in fact didn't respond. They still had 2 hours before dancing class started, so now they were stuck at doing nothing or trying to kill time.
“Maybe socialise?” She answered his question.
“Ew, no thanks I am not getting close to those weirdos.”
A moment of quietness passed, Jay played with his green tie, which matched her shirt. Actually he had chosen their clothes to match on purpose, but obviously wouldn't tell her, that would make him look weak in his opinion. Nya fixed her ponytail a bit, she could feel brunette's gaze on herself for a moment, but didn't mention it, not wanting him to get offended again and stop talking to her. She noticed it happens a lot, his eyes were on her when he thought she wasn't looking. Raven-haired girl couldn't keep quiet for too long, not with him.
“Sooo we might as well get to know each other or something.”
“Didn't you say you know me?”
“I knew the old you. Not you now. Also you don't remember much about me either.”
“Fair point. Well then… uhmm…What's your favourite colour?” Jay started a bit nervously. He really didn't understand what was happening to him. He was always strong and cool, at least from what he remembered, but then every time he was supposed to talk with her, he felt like an awkward high school boy in love. Except he DEFINITELY wasn't in love with her, or at least that's what he was trying to tell himself.
“...Blue, I think it's since always. I really like red too, but blue gets first place.” Oh, how deep flashbacks she got the second he asked this. She remembered their first meeting, he wasn't able to speak, she didn't know why and regretted not asking later, but Zane asked for him about her favourite colour… It hurts to think about it now.
“You’ve got a plus from me for that. Now your turn, lady.”
“Did you have anyone, like in a romantic way, in the administration?” She crossed her arms, a little tingle of jealousy in her eyes. He almost choked on the air, that escalated real fast into personal stuff.
“What kind of question even is that?”
“You have to answer, that's the rules.” Her voice was serious.
“Geez, I didn't, I am single. Happy?” He huffed, leaning deeper against the couch.
“You don't even know how much.” She couldn't hold back a small smile appearing on her face.
“You and the red ninja are siblings?” He asked. She blinked surprised, maybe he didn't have his memories but she thought he knew that already.
“Yeah, you didn't know?”
“I am just making sure. I don't want fake info.”
“How did Ras take you in, and when did you first do shatterspin?” Nya asked, that was one of her most bothersome questions.
“You were supposed to ask one not two.” Jay tried to avoid answering. Those weren't his most liked memories, from what he had at least.
“Just tell me you don't want to answer then.” Her blue eyes watched him intensely all the time, while his brown ones with red reflections looked everywhere but at her.
“I don't! It's stupid. Just a waste of time” He snapped and stood up from the couch, he went outside, leaving her alone in the room. Nya sank down on the mattress, where he was moments ago.
“It's not stupid, he is stupid! ugh, I hate him!” She muttered under her nose, hiding her face in her hands, while her elbows rested on her knees. Nya felt like she fucked up. Maybe it was too early to ask this kind of question? But at the same time would it really hurt that much to just tell her to not ask? It's stupid. So so stupid. Raven-haired girl could feel tears of helplessness well up in her eyes. She just wanted Jay back. Her sweet, caring and loving Jay.
Her tanned hands whipped away the tears that managed to spill out. She didn't have time for that. There was a mission to complete, even if that meant dealing with this awfully annoying and kind of charming version of Jay. Her eyes flickered towards the clock. The dancing lesson starts in thirty minutes, she has to go get the brunette then. Just before going, she took out a little piece of gold metal, Yang symbol, her finger delicately traced the dragon on it, before pressing a small kiss there. She put her part back in her black jeans pocket and left the small house.
“I've got this.” She mumbled to herself, already seeing the guy that was now her biggest dilemma.
