Work Text:
these four walls are not my home
my father, my creator, my only friend
the stranger that lives beside me.
one gloomy window is my only portal
to a dying world that's not meant for me.
or maybe, it's that i am not meant for it.
this room, the only place i've ever known
the womb that carried me is my prison cell.
i dream of a palace where i can run around
like children are meant to.
i hope someday that i will find my home.
these city streets are not my home
i wander through the dust to find someone
that i dont know.
i search for the answers to a question
i have not yet asked.
i know i don't belong here
because of the hungry eyes that follow me
watching as i trip over cracks in the pavement.
i am laid bare in these streets;
the moon glints off my inhuman skin
and though it protects me
it sets me apart and makes me vulnerable.
still, i walk forward.
i can't go back. i can't stay here.
i hope someday that i will find my home.
this empty cave is not my home
i have left everything behind me
in a cloud of smoke.
my tireless legs brought me here
to a place devoid of life
like a deprivation chamber.
i have been alone my whole life
but here, it feels like a punishment
and it feels like a release.
every sunrise and sunset is the same
and i cannot recall how many have passed.
i only know that life still exists
because of the putrid smog on the horizon.
the city; choking, but still breathing.
maybe it's better this way.
no sounds echo through these chambers
and though i think i'd fear to hear footsteps,
i know it would also bring me joy
and relief.
i hope someday that i will find my home.
