Work Text:

‎a pair of eyes, cold as an ice swept over the crowd. the crowd that had been joyful minutes ago—
‎
‎seemed to stop to what they were doing, people chattering had came to a halt.
‎
‎everyone turned their heads, their attention drawn to the person who had just walked in. the rightful heir of the Chi family.
‎
‎chi cheng.
‎
‎the name spoken with careful precision.
‎
‎the crowd parted like the waves in the sea. chi cheng walked confidently, without hesitation, without a doubt, and with the precision of someone who had already expected this kind of respect.
‎
‎as chi cheng was about to arrive to his destination— a boy thin as a paper came flying at his back.
‎
‎the once crowd that had been left in relief as chi cheng was about to disperse—had suddenly stopped breathing.
‎
‎their gazes falling onto the boy who has fallen into chi cheng.
‎
‎
‎
‎wu suo wei—who had woken up late that day, the usual humming of xiao shuai was long gone. he had gotten used to his best friend's early noises that he had forgotten that he was sleeping in his parents house.
‎
‎so unconsciously he let his habit of sleeping without an alarm on—he trusts shuai too much.
‎
‎so now here he was running late. the usual delicate, careful, perfectionist student running late?
‎
‎what a sight.
‎
‎his hair was disheveled, parts of it going up in another direction to other—his student uniform wrinkled. he had long gone abandoned the idea of ironing it when he saw the time.

a piece of bread hanging in his mouth—bag half unzipped and it looked like the contents of the insides were to fall any minute, but wu suo wei had zipped it in time.
‎
‎nothing about the way wu suo wei screamed perfectionist right now.
‎
‎
‎
‎wu suo wei sighed of relief as he stood over the school gate.
‎
‎'let's just hope class hadn't started yet.'— he thought to himself.
‎
‎he walked towards the entrance, carelessly walking—not noticing the tension shared between the students.
‎
‎he saw everyone gathered on the side like scattered cats and thought nothing of it, he fastened his walk as his gaze swept over the crowd to each side of the walls of the school—far too deep in the wall, it looked like they might get crushed there.
‎
‎as wu suo wei gets distracted by the bystanders he hadn't noticed a person in his way. as expected, he collided with him by accident.
‎
‎as he they collided, wu suo wei's foot somehow slipped. and his heart skipped a beat—
‎
‎'oh no. he was absolutely NOT about to embrass himself in the first year of college.  '
‎
‎As he slowly slips—' it's already enough that im late, now im about to humiliate myself infront of everyone.' he thought in horror.
‎
‎wu suo wei closed his eyes, thinking of the outcomes that could possibly happen. suddenly a hand clamped over his waist.
‎
‎it slid in so smoothly that wu suo wei hadn't notice that his fall had came to an halt.
‎
‎Wu suo wei's eyes snapped open, looking at the stranger infront of him—Wu suo wei caught the coldness in Chi cheng's eye.
‎
‎and he was mesmerized. it had been like the world has stopped—looking at those deep eyes wu suo wei felt captivated.
‎
‎then a deep voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
‎
‎"done drooling?" Chi cheng's voice came out cooly, and it seemed like the room's temperature dropped to 10 degrees.
‎
‎Wu suo wei's eyes widened, looking like a deer caught in a headlight—his face threatned to tint pink. but he fixed his composure making sure no one noticed the way he looked at chi cheng.
‎
‎Wu suo wei's heart hammered against his chest, he thought everyone would hear it. he shoved the man forward and started muttering apologies as he rushes off to find his classroom.
‎
‎
‎everyone stilled, holding their breath, thinking maybe chi cheng would snap and chase after wu suo wei—and starts beating the shit out of him.
‎
‎but instead they were greeted with a scoff and a smirk.
‎
‎and went back to what he was doing before the collusion like nothing had happend,
‎
‎like not a random boy just had came into his presence and disturb his space.
‎
‎everyone sighed of relief as the burdens in their shoulder lifted. then the murmurs started pouring in.
‎
‎"Did THE chi cheng just let a boy get away without doing anything to him?"
‎"He even smirked and scoffed!"
‎
‎they say exaggerated.
‎
‎then someone murmured loud enough for some people who could hear.
‎
‎"isn't the guy that collided with him the scholarship boy?"
‎"oh the one that's really smart, and decent rich?"
‎"Yeah! he's the boy that got a scholarship without needing his family's help!"
‎"how come he didn't recognize chi cheng?"
‎
‎
‎the chatter continued, people puzzled, intrigued, curious but,
‎
‎
‎in the far end corner a girl squealed, "omg!—omg! shuai! did you see that? IT LOOKED LIKE A YAOI MEETING POINT."
‎
‎"Yue Yue, you're absolutely RIGHT! how come our da wei gets to meet someone like chi cheng in the first day and not us?"shuai answered sarcastically and sighed heavily.
‎
‎yue yue not seemingly to take the sarcastic remark, continued.
‎
‎"no I don't care about that, but did u see the chemistry between wei wei and chi cheng?! this is definitely gonna be a fun school year!"
‎
‎Yue yue squealed again, this time loud enough that people could hear her, but she didn't care.
‎
‎her eyes were shining like she just had struck gold.
‎
‎jiang xiao shuai spoke—" you and your yaoi fantasies again." Yue yue retorted "HEY THEY'RE NOT FANTASIES THEY'RE—"
‎
Before yue yue could even finish, jiang xiao shuai had already started walking— holding the mountain of books in his hands.
‎
‎'how great, wu suo wei gets a handsome man in his first day, while i get books. oh how unfair can the universe be.'
‎
‎'—god or whoever is listening to me please, i beg you to bless me too'
‎
‎shuai's thoughts was radiating, even Yue yue could tell what he was thinking.
‎
‎Before she could even call him out for it, a sudden knock made his books fly up in the air, a sudden jolt to his body—in instinct as he looked at the floor.
‎
‎'oh shittings. just my luck, thank you god. u answered my wishes.' he said remarkably like he had regretted saying what he said earlier.
‎
‎he embraced himself for impact—then in one swift of motion a hand grabbed his hand and pulled him back.
‎
‎Xiao shuai, clueless, thinking it was yue yue. opened his eyes—a subtle glint of happiness in his eyes.
‎
‎"Thank you yue yue, you're such an ange—" before he could even finish his sentence, he stared. this wasn't yue yue he was facing-
‎
‎it was a guy. a very handsome guy at that, xiao shuai stared long enough to bore holes into this guy.
‎
‎yue yue on the other side let out a gasp so loud that it snapped both the guy and xiao shuai out of their trance.
‎
‎xiao shuai realizing whats happening, his eyes blown wide, stood straight and started slowly retrieving his hand that the guy that had grabbed.
‎
‎"T-thank you.." shuai stuttered while muttering apologies. red had started to appear in the tips of his ears.
‎
‎"you're welcome, beautiful." the guy replied enthusiastically.
‎
‎the red tint in his ears darkened, he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole.
‎
‎the guy noticed his expression, the blush, and smirked.
‎
‎the guy slowly bent down to grab the books that had fallen from earlier's commotion,
‎
‎xiao shuai noticing the action, he told him to stop. "it's fine i can do it myself."
‎
‎shuai now started picking up the books, and the guy stared at him intently. a glint of curiosity in his eyes.
‎
‎yue yue in the side completely, forgotten. her mouth still gaped open just staring at them with disbelief.
‎
‎the guy insisted on helping xiao shuai, shuai just couldn't stop his persistent protests and just let him be.
‎
‎As they were picking up the books, as if on cue the guy introduced himself.
‎
‎"Im guo chengyu by the way" shuai stared at the guy—then introduced himself too "im jiang xiao shuai."
‎
‎as they finished collecting the scattered books, the bell rang. the guy's name—or referred to as guo chengyu's ears perked.
‎
‎"i have to go now.—it was nice meeting you beautiful" guo chengyu said with a wink as he slowly strides through the halls, slowly fading away from xiao shuai's vision.
‎
‎jiang xiao shuai stood in the middle of the hallway frozen.
‎
‎"dude. you may or may not just had met the love of your life." yue yue's voice made his neck snap to the side. yue yue's eyes were shining with anticipation.
‎
‎'oh god have mercy. i asked for a miracle not a disaster.'
‎
‎"no. I don't wanna talk about your self obsessed yaoi scenarios, im leaving. im already late. go to wu suo wei if u want these scenarios to be heard."
‎
‎jiang xiao shuai basically ran out there, ears still red from the earlier conversation.
‎
‎yue yue stood alone in the hallway, disbelief, relief, or something interested in her expression.
‎
‎"this school year is about to be made in history, i just know." she said as she slowly dispersed through the doors.
‎
‎in low dimmed light corner—a girl stood by watching yue yue leave, "indeed." the girl said. her eyes never yue yue as she disappears.
‎
‎
‎
‎wu suo wei entered the classroom, feeling every gaze landing on him.
‎
‎"professor am sorry im lat—" "sit down. no excuses, just sit." the professor dismissed. wu suo wei feeling relieved, started looking around for a seat.
‎
‎he noticed that all of the chairs seemed to be occupied, but one isn't—his gaze landed on the boy in the back.
‎
‎the same boy that he had crashed into from earlier. "no way right?" he muttered.
‎
‎he turned around the room, looking for another seat that's available. everyone looked at him with pity, avoiding his gaze.
‎
‎somehow and somewhat EVERY, when i mean every seat was occupied except for chi cheng's seats.
‎
‎he sighed, a hint of defeat. he slowly walks up to chi cheng. he held his head high—as if on cue a cold gaze swept to him.
‎
‎he felt chills running down his spine. as he approaches the man, everyone seemed to hold their breaths.
‎
‎slowly and surely, wu suo wei arrived at his destination. as he stood infront of the man—he felt goosebumps, his thoughts telling him to tell the professor if he could move into an available chair but...
‎
‎he extended his hand infront of the man and introduced himself. "H-hello, im wu suo wei—do you mind if i could sit here?"
‎
‎wu suo wei spoke, his composure wavering.
‎
‎the man looked up at him, meeting his gaze, he observed the boy infront of him and the extended hand that was placed inbetween them.
‎
‎everyone was now looking at them, paying no attention to their professor.
‎
‎slowly, chi cheng spoke up—"no. this seat is occupied, i have a friend who's gonna sit here." chi cheng smiled. his smile seemingly empty, like he did it involuntary.
‎
‎wu suo wei seemingly noticing this gesture, dropped his hand. "oh. okay." he said, slowly backing away and finding another seat.
‎
‎chi cheng leaned back to his chair watching the figure that was just infront of him walking away.
‎
‎"Wu suo wei."
‎
‎he repeated the name once—then twice.
‎
‎"..interesting.." he said his smile faltering into a smirk.
‎
