Summary
YOU – “Kim? Kim, what’s wrong?”
KIM KITSURAGI – He properly meets your eyes - the first time, you realize, since the precinct - and there is something horribly soft in his face. Something you are terrified to name.
KIM KITSURAGI – “....you can’t….”
YOU – “I can’t what?”
KIM KITSURAGI – “It’s…..it’s alright, Harry. You shouldn’t….have to see. I don’t…” He trails off, his eyes slipping away from yours again, somewhere far away.
YOU – “Kim, why can’t I change your shirt? Is it your scars? I told you, I don’t give a shit, or– I give exactly as much of a shit as you want me to give, I don’t–”
PERCEPTION – His good hand is on your cheek.
KIM KITSURAGI – He slowly, so very slowly, traces the shape of your jaw, your moustache, your cheekbone. He smiles, just a little, tears still falling.
EMPATHY – It’s the kind of smile a schoolteacher might give to a child who doesn’t understand something obvious.
KIM KITSURAGI – “You can’t. You’ll see my lungs glow.”
