Work Text:
Mel woke up on Trinity's bed, her head sore, her mouth full of cotton. Mel…was not used to this feeling. she ran the differential
dry mouth
unhappy tummy
headache
patient had been at a bar
patient (Mel) had gotten drunk. at least a little. and was now suffering from the medically awful condition of "a hang over". she groaned loudly. it was answered with a second loud groan from the floor where Trinity, still in her cute clothes, lay,
"Mel, i love ya as much as the next girl but keep it down"
Mel knew, intuitively, that Trinity ment it in a casual, familial way, but something about it made her feel blushy
then her stomach made her feel violently ill. "
"Trinity, I've gotta-"
Trinity, blirey eyed, looked up from the floor to see a Mel who was clearly gonna hurl and, despite her own unhappy tummy, pounding head and Sahara mouth, guided her to the bathroom just in time for Mel to throw up several vodka red bulls, Moscow mules and an ill judged kebab that drunk Trinity had been convinced would be a panacea to all her ills with "come on Mel, im a doctor, you can trust me"
Mels call on the big white telephone lasted for 5 or so minutes. Trinity rubs her back and made sure the mess braid she had platted the night before stayed out her way. "shussshhh Mel, get it all out, your OK"
eventual, they both say on the tiles of the bathroom floor.
"listen" Trinity began, wondering how a woman who had, less then a minute ago, been reaching, could look so pretty. "i know the kebab seemed like a good idea, but i swear, a breakfast burrito will help a ton"
Mel looked at Trinity with searching eyes, a slight blush on her cheeks. blood vessel did tend to break when throwing up. and for Mel, to a point, this was true. but beyond that, the warmth she felt was also because remembered how she had felt last night. felt when Trinity had pulled the hair band out. felt when she had held her up. felt when she has called her a "good girl" as they got in the cab.
"Mel?"
right, questions. "uh…i don't know…i don't think…is that in a journal?"
Trinity laughed, then groaned as the motion rocked her sore head. "the journal of being a rebellious teenager. is this your first hang over?"
Mel blushes, feeling seen. "well take some meds, ive got anti-anemics and analgesics, and i cook a damn good breakfast burrito, the best hang over cure money can buy" Trinity grinned, confidence shining from her.
and Mel, sore and sick and mouth tasting like shit, dumbly nodded as she realised more deeply that last nights feelings still sat in her chest
-
Trinity should have sent Mel away. hang overs were better in your own bed, she was a firm prepotent of that. not only that, but whilst she was not about to chow down, she had feelings about the woman, who could sometimes put her foot in the wrong place in a conversation, similar and yet different to Trinity in that way, and who, whilst Trinity was sure could lie, seemed to be remarkably honest most of the time.
Mel was dressed in an oversized t shirt and joggers of Trinity's, who was wearing a similar get up as Trinity began making food. "no eggs please" Mel said, sitting with a pint glass of water she was nursing slowly.
the smell of food filled the flat as they began to talk. or at least, Mel talked. Trinity had started it with "so, reactors?"
"oh! so, there not…quite my thing. but, well…i'll take what i can get, you know" Mel looked down in to her water, all of a sudden bashful, "i realy liked the ren fair"
Trinity felt her heart hurt at that, at settling for civil war reenactors because she couldn't get the ren fair. "ren fair, what, as a princess?"
"well, a French noble woman. i had a whole character i used to play, before- before we had to stop going."
Trinity could tell where she could put her foot, and so let that slide, placing a plate down infrequent of Mel who pored on hot sauce. "Jesus Mel, are you gonna burn out your tongue?"
"oh, no, so, obviously capsaicin doesn't really burn, but also, i find spicy food…stimulating"
"stimulating huh" Trinity waggled her eye brows as she took a bite of her own, not un-spicy meal
Mel giggled. "your funny Trinity. and ummm…."
the blush crept down her neck
"well…i think your…really nice"
Trinity looked up, "jeez Mel, damn me with faint-" and she saw how red Mel had gone. "your OK?"
Mel hummed affirmative, her eyes suddenly not meeting Trinity's.
"too hot?"
head shake
"im nice?"
nod
"like…?"
Mel swallowed. shocked by her own brazenness. she nodded. no turning back
"like…like your funny. your sharp. you want people to think your sharp. but your soft underneath. you care. a lot"
now it was Trinity's turn to start blushing.
"people who don't know you…they think your mean. you want them to think that, maybe..but…you took in Whitaker. you care intensely, you just don't want to show it and…"
"and?" said Trinity looking a little shocked
"your really pretty. and last night i wanted to…too…kiss you"
Mel tried to keep her breathing even, she felt like she was going to Melt. "i…i can go, I'll just-"
a finger tilted her head up, met by a kiss, gentle, letting Mel lean in to it. she did, suddenly hungry, before they parted.
"your really pretty too" Trinity grinned, her hang over suddenly banished. "and ummm…" she looked her up and down. "now we're both sober, and you've said that, i feel i can ask you if i can do something i was thinking about all last night…well…a lot of last night"
Mel cocked her head to the side
"can i…" Trinity felt suddenly tongue tied, but she looked Mel up and down, a little hungry.
"can you…oh. oh! y-yes. i mean, if you want too i would be hon-" Trinity put her finger on Mels lips, then bound her hair up with a air band, before taking her by the hand, the blond woman following silently in to Trinity bedroom for an easy, gently, lazy, and very fun morning.
Mel would remember Trinity as her first, and it would stand up well against any of the others that might come.
