Chapter Text
A sharp pain made Matthew shoot up, his eyes bursting open into an expression of shock. What the fuck.. Okay first of all, where was he? All he could tell was that he was way too close to his friend, his arms were just wrapped around him, that's how close. And his head was pounding. He could also feel something trickling down his face and hand. Blood..
Was he dead? Is this the afterlife?
It was in fact, not the afterlife. He was alive. Right? Yes. He was. And instead of heaven or hell, he was in the back of what remained of the car he was sitting in normally maybe a few hours prior.
The blood was likely linked to the shattered glass from the windows surrounding him and his unconscious friend, Cameron. What had happened? What were they even doing..
Oh yeah. That's what.. They were trying to help the last third of their trio win a battle she never stop fighting. She wanted to take out her ex, and that ended being literally. Speaking of.. Where was she? It was her plan and she was in the driver's seat. But now she wasn't.
Matthew opens his phone, the screen has taken slight damage from the accident just like he has. No signal, he can't even reach out to see if she was okay. God damnit.
Speaking of checking on others, Cam was right there and still not awake. Matthew wasn't the ONLY person who was still in the wreck and breathing right?
He wasn't, Cameron had a pulse. That's something at least.. A sign that not everything is completely fucked. He wasn't awake though. Could he just leave him to rest for a moment more..
No. That's the answer. Why? Because as soon as he even attempts to move, he groans from pain but also he starts to hear more than just breathing. Sirens.. Getting closer as well.
"CAM." Matt shouts, yet still trying to not be too loud. Authorities finding them is the last thing they need! They are very unlikely to help. That's what Matthew assumes at least.
"CAMERON. If you don't wake up right now I swear to every god in the sky-"
His voice fills with more urgency with every word, the pace of his speech getting way too fasting he ends up breathless. As he speaks, he shakes his friend, a harsh grip on his shoulders.
And it was enough to wake him up. Great. But they didn't have enough time to keep lounging around.
"Huh.. Matt what are you.." the other boy murmurs, rubbing his eyes slowly as he tries to take in the situation.
Not like that really does anything. He had been knocked out cold for hours. So has Matt but he seemed to handle it better..
"Seriously though.. Why are you shouting dude? And where are we?"
Matt just sighs, agitated from panic as the noise of sirens got even louder.
"We need to go. Now. Please."
That was his best attempt at being cautious of the state of Cam and even himself. They were both clearly injured and dazed, Cameron moreso obviously. Matt's anxiety overtook the pain, he knew they had to escape.
"That doesn't answer my questions. Help a guy out!" Cam rebuttles. It doesn't get anything that he wanted out of the messy haired brunette next to him though.
"You have your bag still, right?" he questions, supporting Cam by the shoulders still as he sits him up. His questioning meant nothing though as he didn't let him speak.
They took bags with them to this plan for this very reason, if this didn't go how they wanted it to. If they needed to run.. And they were still there.
"You did? Great! Love that.." Matt is rambling slightly as he looks inside each one.
It was the bare essentials in them. A few clothes, any really important items to them (for example, Matt's flute), and things to help them freshen up such as drinks.
With the discovery that they still had access to it all, Matt grabs both of the bags - his messenger bag and the other's backpack. The weight felt extreme on top of the consequences of following through with this idea but he pushed anyways. The two of them couldn't be found like this.. Tied to a murder attempt! One way ticket to jail none of them needed.
Cam protests this, seeing the pressure it was putting onto Matthew.
"Matt, come on just.. Calm down?"
The worst thing you could possibly say to him. Calm down.. Because that's so easy! It got no response from Matt due to how much it annoyed him. In fact, it makes him feel worse because he feels like his panic is unnecessary even though it absolutely is.
The only thing he says is, "There's no time. Are you not hearing what I'm hearing?!"
And with that, he helped Cam out of the car wreck and held him the whole time they started to run. After all, he wasn't sure what injuries Cam may have received. At least, despite the weakness and agony he was feeling, he's been hurt enough before to know how to push through it. And if worse comes to worse.. He has a solution in his bag.
For now, all they had to do was find a way out. Matt knew a route (mostly).
