Work Text:

Once again they were out on the ocean, at least this time it was something bigger than a surfboard. Lucy had slowly gotten over her fear of the ocean, as much as she could, she still held a lot of respect for it, but at least she could try and surf, and now she could join Kate when she wanted to go sailing. It was different being on a sail boat compared to the other boats she had been on, first of all there was a lot more to keep track of, mainly making sure that she didn’t trip over anything or getting hit in the head by a beam when they needed to change the direction of the sails. Besides that she had the life vest on, and she was hooked up to the railing by a security rope, she had been told that it had to do with keeping everyone on the boat, it would be a lot easier to get you up on the boat if you fell off.

Lucy felt the wind against her face, and then she felt the change of the wind, but she hadn’t expected it, as the wind hit, a wave also hit the boat and Lucy’s balance was off, but she didn’t fall. She felt a pair of strong arms around her, hands pressed against her, her body pressed against a body. Lucy looked up, and she was met with Kate smiling at her. They stood there on the deck of the boat bodies pressed together, maybe a second or two too long. Lucy had her balance back but she didn’t want to leave the safe space that was Kate’s arms.

“Thank you.” Lucy smiled at her, her hands slowly moved up Kate’s arms, she felt muscles move as Kate moved her arms, changing her grip on Lucy.

“You’re welcome,” Kate replied, “and you don’t have to thank me.” Kate cupped one of Lucy’s cheeks and smiled at her, “do you think you got your sea legs back?”

“I have sea legs, I just didn’t expect the wind to change like that and a wave to hit from another side.” Lucy huffed when she looked at Kate, “and you know I’ve just gotten over my fear of the ocean,” she took a small step back, “so you should be happy that I’m joining you on this sailing trip,” she said, she made sure to keep her eyes on Kate, “because I’m sure there are others that would have enjoyed this a lot more.”

“They would,” Kate agreed, “but they wouldn’t be as good company as you,” she ran her thumb over Lucy’s cheek, “so you were always my number one choice.” She moved closer to Lucy again, and wrapped her arms around her waist, holding her close.

“You do know that you don’t have to hold me the whole time right?” she asked, her own arms circled around Kate’s waist.

“I know, but I’m also making sure that you don’t fall overboard,” Kate replied, a small laugh left her lips, and she leaned down brushed her lips against Lucy’s lips. She moved a hand and smoothed Lucy’s hair down.

“You can let go,” Lucy said and smiled at her, it wasn’t that she wanted Kate to let her go. She felt safe in her arms, and the boat still moved a bit too much side to side for Lucy’s liking.

“Yeah?” Kate asked, “and what happens if I don’t let go?”

She didn’t have an answer to the question, if anything she hadn’t expected Kate to ask that question. A small breath left Lucy’s lips, and she nuzzled her nose against Kate’s shirt, she took a breath, and she could smell the scent that was Kate, it was mixed with the fresh ocean air. “I’ll figure something out,” she replied and she toyed a bit with a string that hung from the hoodie Kate wore under her life vest. “I think I got it,” Lucy whispered, “if you don’t let me go, you have to kiss me.”

Kate laughed, “I will kiss you no matter what,” she replied, “and I don’t count kissing you as something bad happening when I’m not doing something you want me to do.”

“Okay, so maybe I just want you to kiss me,” Lucy confessed and smiled at her, her head tilted back a bit so she could look at Kate. She saw a few strands of hair had made it out of Kate’s ponytail, and was now laying over her forehead, almost covering part of her eyes. Lucy stood up on her toes, she pushed the hair away from Kate’s face, “all better.”

Kate moved a hand, fingers rested under Lucy’s chin and she leaned down, and captured her lips with her own, lips moved with a familiarity together with Lucy’s lips. Kate pulled Lucy closer to her, a hand pressed against her back. Her tongue swiped along Lucy’s lower lip, and Kate was met with Lucy’s lips parting, and she took the chance to deepen the kiss, tongues moved together. Kate pulled back from the kiss.

She pulled Lucy with her and made sure that they sat down at the bow of the boat, her arms circled around Lucy, her chin rested against Lucy’s shoulder, fingers intertwined and rested on Lucy’s stomach, and Kate pressed a kiss against her cheek. The sky was slowly turning red, at the moment it was more of an orange color, it was perfect. It was everything Kate wanted, some nice quiet time with Lucy, the woman she would be ready to spend the rest of her life with, and she would make sure of it, when the time was right.
