Work Text:
From where he laid on his stomach, Neil inhaled sharp and deep and shifted, rubbing his face into the white pillow under his head, his arms folded up at its sides dipping under the plush object, until finally he settled with his face turned to the right and exhaled.
He slowly cracked his eyes open and sucked in another sharp pull of air through his nose, when he was met with the sight of Andrew’s face, drenched in the early morning sunlight that spilled in through the gap in their bedroom curtains.
In sleep Andrew’s face held none of its usual angered scrunch, or carefully held indifference, it was all soft, rosy skin and beautiful, sharp features. Neil couldn’t help but admire him.
He moved again so he was laying on his right side, propped up on his elbow, fist pressed to his cheek, and for what could have been seconds, minutes or hours, Neil just watched Andrew. Watched him sleep; listened to him breathe. Until Andrew twitched and a piece of his fluffy, blonde hair tumbled over his face. Without thinking, Neil quietly moved his left hand from where it hung down on the mattress in front of him and stretched it out to push back the strands.
He’d barely touched a fingertip to Andrews forehead when his hazel eyes shot open and he jumped back. Neil regretted his actions immediately, and left his hand hovering over Andrew’s previous position.
Neil watched as Andrew started to register what had happened and saw as all of the anxiety bled from his body and he relaxed back into the bed.
Neil dropped his arm down on the mattress right in front of Andrew, making sure not to touch him again, and muttered a small, sheepish, “Sorry…”
All Andrew did in return was grunt softly and close his eyes again. Neil huffed in exasperation and scooted in a bit closer, resting his body back down off his elbow.
When Neil closed his eyes again, he felt Andrew scoot a bit closer and wrap an arm around his back. He smiled gently and tucked his face into Andrew’s neck. It wasn’t long before his consciousness drifted back off to dreamland.
