    Summary

In 1954, a prehistoric amphibious sea creature was awakened and horribly scarred by an American hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific. The blast destroyed its habitat and exterminated the last of its species, driving the seemingly lone survivor to Japan in a blind rage and leaving devastation in its wake. Daisuke Serizawa, a brilliant scientist who had created the Oxygen Destroyer a weapon capable of disintegrating living organisms was convinced there was no other way to stop the creature. Deploying it beneath Tokyo Bay, killing the monster while sacrificing himself so its secret would die with him.

His young son, Ishiro Serizawa, devastated by the lost and seeking to escape the painful memories of Japan, Ishiro moved to the United States and devoted his life to studying the natural world. But when giant monsters begin returning from humanity's forgotten past, Ishiro is forced to confront the very legacy he tried to leave behind. As ancient Titans rise from the depths and humanity stands on the brink of extinction, a journey of rediscovery, loss, and sacrifice unfolds, revealing that these colossal beings are the true rulers of the Earth.
