Work Text:
The warm light from the stove seemed to fill every inch of the house.
Scents of vanilla and cashmere filling the room, dashed with a tinge of spice. The telenovela on the tv seemed to only serve as background noise, none of it registering to Chiara who lay on the couch, limbs intertwined with the man she loved the most.
Her fingers traced lazy patterns across his vast chest, their cold tips contrasting his warmth. In return, his fingers dipped into the plush warmth of her dense, velvety hair, the curls coiling softly around his knuckles.
“She should stop whining and divorce him, no?”
Her ears perked up at the sound of his voice, and she looked up to meet his eyes. He jerked his chin towards the TV, his gaze narrowing the screen. Chiara watched him for a second before turning her eyes towards the TV as well. A woman paced on her balcony, eyes full of tears, witnessing her husband flirt with another woman. Chiara’s eyes fell back to Amado, his attention entirely on the scene.
She couldn’t help but smile. A cheeky and simple smile–for what? She didn’t know. Maybe it’s because she felt so lucky to have the man whose chest she rested on all to herself. Or maybe it’s because after all this time her fears had been disproven. She hadn’t ended up like the sorry woman on TV, crying for a love that never was hers.
The thought used to make Chiara’s stomach twist and turn, at the thought of giving your all to someone only to be abandoned. But with Amado, he put her all to good use. He took up her once dull mornings and nights, and turned them into moments she longed for. Amado wasn’t just a mere visitor in her life, he was the anchor that kept her from drowning. The breath that finally filled her lungs; and she inhaled as much as she could.
“¿Que paso, mi amor?”
His velvety voice snapped her from her trance, and she was met with his deep brown eyes. His brows furrowed in concern, awaiting her response. Chiara smiled and shook her head. “Nothing, just thinking.” Amado smiled softly, his hand reaching to caress her face before gently gripping her chin. “Don’t tease that beautiful mind of yours with worries.” He stared at her longingly for a moment before turning his attention back to the TV.
At that, Chiara laid her head back to rest on his chest, her fingers continuing their dance on his chest. In that very moment, there was nowhere else she wanted to be. There was nothing else she was thinking of. Not the DEA, not Felix or the plazas, and least of all, Ossie.
Amado was it for her; all she needed. He wasn’t just her companion, he was her salvation.
