An Easy Evening

Summary:

There are some people that you should let into your home to eat with and others you shouldn't, but if you don't they may just let themselves in.

Work Text:

All Nagisa wanted was to hibernate for the winter, nevermind that it was not winter. But tomorrow was a Sunday so Nagisa was just going to sleep the day away, a boring enough plan that Lufel ‘offered’ to spend the weekend with someone else. What a saint.

After a moment of fumbling with his house keys Nagisa opened the door and noticed the smell of… food? Something slightly spicy, the scent of curry.

Nagisa fished for White Mask’s dagger from his bag, he didn’t know what kind of person broke into another’s home to cook but Nagisa wasn’t taking any chances.

Slowly he approached and… “Wonder?”

“Nacchan!” White Mask waved from the dining room, setting two plates of rice and curry down. “Welcome home Beloved”

“Beloved!?” Blood rushed to Nagisa’s face, surely out of anger and his voice raised an octave higher, also due to anger. “First you stab me then you break into my house–!”

“Our house technically,” White Mask interrupted, looking far too pleased with himself. “And is it really breaking in if I have a key?” He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a key, identical to the one Nagisa had used moments prior. “Also that’s a really odd way of saying thank you to the guy that so thoughtfully cooked for you knowing that you would be too tired to do it yourself. That fight looked tiring.”

Nagisa huffed and put the dagger back into his bag. “Thank you Wonder.”

White Mask blinked, like he hadn’t expected Nagisa to actually thank him.

But over analysing White Mask’s possible self worth issues required more thoughts and energy than what Nagisa wanted to give. He sat down and started eating almost immediately while White Mask sat across from him and started eating his own meal, albeit at a smaller pace.

The food was surprisingly good, Nagisa knew how to cook but his curry skills could use some work. “How’d you learn how to make this?”

“Aw, you like it?” White Mask grinned, “I learned it from someone you technically haven’t met yet and probably never will meet.”

Nagisa had no idea what that meant but again, too much thinking and energy required to examine that. “…Right. Why are you here?”

“If I said it’s because I love and adore you, would you believe me?”

“Not after you’ve stabbed me twice.”

“Pity.” White Mask shrugged, “Maybe I just missed you then, and if I visit you every so often then you’re less likely to go down into Mementos alone to search for me like an idiot.”

Nagisa hummed, he would be a lot less tempted if he saw White Mask every now and then outside of Menentos. Still a warning would have been appreciated, not that the two have any way of contact. “Do you have a phone with a number?”

“I don’t give my number out until the second date.”

Nagisa stared at him incredulously, “that’s a terrible policy, how do you plan the second date.”

“Ah and there’s the kicker.” White Mask looked far too smug for what he just said. “I’ll be nice though and consider this our first.”

“Ridiculous.” Nagisa rolled his eyes but honestly he didn’t know what else he expected from White Mask, he shouldn’t have expected anything else really. “You’re lucky Lufel decided not to come with today.”

“Oh I know.” White Mask laughed like a joke was said, “But no risk, no reward.”

White Mask then stood up, smiling as Nagisa rolled his eyes. He picked up his own plate and booped Nagisa’s nose before picking up the other’s, long since finished plate. Seemingly intent to busy himself with the dishes. Nagisa watched for a few moments but White Mask really was doing just that.

So he got up as well and stretched for a second before going to his room. The interruption to Nagisa’s sleeping plans were only accepted because the food was good and that Nagisa was hungrier than he thought he was, at least now that he’s eaten he won’t be starving in the morning.

But thinking of those sleeping plans Nagisa changed into his softest pair of pajamas and headed to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Nagisa sighed at his appearance, fighting Palace Rulers was tiring and it showed. His hair was a mess, eyes slightly sunken and his shoulder… well it was healing, two jagged and ugly scars, one a lot newer and slightly red, likely agitated by all the activity. Nagisa didn’t know if scars actually worked that way but when cognition was involved it might not even matter.

He brushed his teeth, singing a song in his head to mark out a minute.

When he finished, Nagisa noted that some of the lights downstairs were off but not all of them. A little curious Nagisa opened his door and walked downstairs to check.

No sign of White Mask but Nagisa hadn’t heard the front door open so it was unlikely that he left.

The living room light was the only one that was off. Not wanting to waste power and not wanting to rely on White Mask to turn it off, Nagisa resolved to do it himself.

Just as he reached for the light switch Nagisa yelped and almost toppled over when a sharp weight suddenly attached himself to his back.

“Wonder let go of me.”

White Mask hummed, wrapping his arms around Nagisa tightly from the back and resting his head on Nagisa's shoulder. “Nope, comfy.”

Inwardly Nagisa groaned but White Mask wasn’t actually weighing him down so it was fine for now at least. He turned off the lights and closed all the blinds, typically he was too lazy to do that and judging by White Mask’s snicker as he did so the both of them were aware but it still felt weird not to do it when there was someone else in the house.

“Are you going to stay the night?”

White Mask hummed but didn’t give a proper reply. Shuffling up the stairs wasn’t exactly easy with White Mask attached to his back but Nagisa managed.

Which led to another problem.

“Wonder let go of me.”

“Why?”

“So I can sleep?”

Nagisa ignored the way he could feel White Mask’s breath on his neck. Then he let go, Nagisa honestly thought he would have needed to fight more on it with how insistent he was down stairs but no.

Quickly, Nagisa got into bed, determined to take the opportunity while he could.

Meanwhile White Mask had moved over to Nagisa’s closet and was rummaging around in it. Nagisa honestly didn’t know how White Mask was seeing them in the cramped drawer but he hardly made sense on the best of days.

Then White Mask started to strip and Nagisa should have looked away. He really should have looked away, but he didn’t. He couldn’t see anything other than White Mask’s side and back but it was enough to make Nagisa feel warm. As similar as they were, White Mask apparently wasn’t a one-to-one copy of Nagisa, no White Mask was more built.

“You like what you see?”

Nagisa jumped and glared at the smirking White Mask, he still wasn’t wearing a shirt though he had put on the pajama bottoms.

“No need to be so shy, beloved.” White Mask stalked closer to the bed, Nagisa could swear that White Mask could hear his beating heart.

White Mask was on the bed now, he leaned close and Nagisa leaned back. White Mask’s hand reached towards Nagisa and caressed his face, not unlike the way he had the other day in mementos but almost gentler, still Nagisa forced himself to suppress a flinch as the hand made contact. Belatedly he realised that White Mask’s hands were ungloved for the first time, they were surprisingly soft.

Nagisa didn’t know what White Mask was looking for but he looked increasingly more annoyed, so he probably hadn’t found it. Logically Nagisa knew White Mask was unlikely to hurt him today, with his continuing want of affection but mood swings weren't unknown with him either.

A huff and White Mask backed off, removing his hand and straightening his back so he was no longer looming over Nagisa. He grabbed the pajama shirt and put it on quickly before making his way back to the bed, getting in right next to Nagisa. He actually did flinch then causing White Mask to make a noise of frustration.

“Sleepy time, Nacchan. You’re tired.”

White Mask practically dragged Nagisa down but Nagisa let him, he was tired. Insistently, almost petulantly, White Mask tucked himself into Nagisa’s arms and sighed, not looking relaxed in the slightest. Ordinarily Nagisa would fight it but again, he was tired and this was largely harmless.

Nagisa was comfortable and warm, he was tired and it was late. It took nearly no time at all for Nagisa to fall asleep.

And when Nagisa woke up in the morning his arms were empty.

Notes:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sorry just needed to get that out there. Today I have more art to show!!
The first is by our favourite person to blame, Nyans! Interestingly you may think that this fic was inspired by the art but nope! Other way around, I shared a preview with them and he then proceeded to create this beautiful thing. The apron is pure delusion tho, he does not wear an apron in the fic (unfortunetly).
There's also this piece by Nyans of the last fic that I have fallen in love with <3

And then! And theeeeeeen!! I've gotten art from someone who ISN'T Nyans??? Jun when I catch you Jun!! Here's the art, it's beautiful and amazing and I love it and I have already printed it :D
Even more then! This might not be fanart actually because the post doesn't say but it's Wondercest all the same (and I know you read my fics Kurokami)
