Gateway To Heaven(The Grief Of Something You Never Had)

Summary:

Jason Finds a poem Tim Wrote and is concerned but it’s strangely beautiful?

——————————————————————————————————————

I pretty much only wrote this so I could share some poetry I made(ik Tim is atheist but shhh I’m not changing my poetry)

Work Text:

Jason almost never worried about his younger brother, he had no reason to be.

Tim was responsible and a pain in the ass to anyone who he deemed an asshole. He had that smile that said he knew more than he would let any9ne know. So why was Jason reading through his diary?

Short answer: funsies.

Long Answer: Jason felt like snooping because Tim had been distancing himself as of late.

Jason knew he and Tim had always been rather distant and had a somewhat horrible relationship but lately it felt as though all the progress they had made in their relationship went down the drain.

Was it because of Damian? Maybe.

Was it because Tim had his mantle ripped from him? Maybe.

Was it because his family always forgot that Tim had done so much and continuously ignored him? Probably.

Everyone in the family appreciated Tim’s skills, Jason had to admit that but he also knew that they took his skills for granted, not even daring to dig past the layers of caffeine addiction and trauma.

Jason could tell when someone was masking, it was one of the many skills he had picked up from his time with the league of assassins and Talia. When Tim first stopped making in Jason’s presence, Jason was confused.

Jason hadn’t realized that Tim was acting the whole time. All these things led to this very moment.

He carefully picked up Tim’s journal, Jason knew Tim would notice but that is a future him problem.

He cracked it open and flipped to a random page somewhere in it, his eyes landed upon a poem, a poem written in blue ink that was smudged and messy.

The poem read:

“You smiled so beautifully.

Like nostalgia given a heart and the longing to be free.

Then we wrote our names in the sand.

Side by side, hand in hand.

Then the waves whisked you away and I knew nothing was meant to stay.

Ocean breeze brought me to my knees and I prayed for you.

Gods tired eyes and tears watching me, mixing with my sweet demise.

Foolish me, falling down.

Deep under the cracked abyssal ground.

Guilt swallowed me whole, yes that is true.

For I could grieve but I could not cry for you.

Sea salt and ocean spray, hymns and wishes and praying to a god cruel yet still so familiar and mine.

Nothing would last, not for a thousand life times.”

Jason didn’t know what to think but he was sure of something. That was enough snooping for today.

He made a mental note to talk to Tim and buy him ice cream or at the very least give him a hug even if he didn’t explain why he was doing that or at least planning on doing that.

Jason hoped Tim was okay but he was never truly sure. Time would tell.
