Work Text:
Somewhere around eleven thirty, when everyone is supposed to be asleep, Katsuki's flat on his bed waiting for the clock to hit twelve. Now, he knows he doesn't necessarily have to do this, but he will; he wants to.
He wants to be the first person to greet Izuku on his birthday, so what else if not to wait until the next day starts? Plus, this gesture isn't exactly that big a deal when Katsuki has missed a shit ton of birthdays before.
Quiet tapping can be heard as fingers meet with the tempered glass of the phone screen; there was just one minute left. The blond gets up, and is out the door.
Chilly wind rushes through the small crevices of his clothes as the silent thudding of footsteps keep him grounded. Katsuki maintains a relaxed setting, he trudges forward with intent.
While waiting for the elevator to travel downward, he checks previous conversations that Izuku and him have had in messages. The elevator slowly opens to reveal a dim hallway.
Nothing's really new about this—Katsuki has been to Izuku's dorm quite a few times already, considering that they're boyfriends. He knocks softly on said person's door, gentle but still firm enough to be heard clearly from the other side.
Sounds of lazy footsteps respond first before the door finally cracks ajar. Izuku stands to the opposing side of Katsuki, rubbing his tired eyes.
"Kacchan.?" The greenette breathes out—even after being accustomed to this explosive visitor he occasionally gets at strange hours, he still can't help but feel a little bit anxious when answering the door.
"Happy birthday, Izuku." The blond lets himself inside and plops down on a bed that's not his. But you know what, it's his boyfriend's and that's pretty much the same thing.
Izuku sighs with endearment, "Thank you, Kacchan. Let's go to sleep," he slides under the comforter, pulling Katsuki into his arms as he breathes out loving words.
Even though these affirmations are said more than often, The explosive blond can't help but blush at them. He gives Izuku a quick kiss on the forehead before embracing him even closer and then falling asleep the next few moments.
Morning arrives, and the greenette is the first to wake up. He takes a moment to assess his sleeping boyfriend's face, then right after decides to spoon him warmly for a few seconds.
Katsuki hugs him back, and doesn't release Izuku when he tries to get out of the latter's hold. With a gruff and tired voice, he says, "oi, what are you doing?"
Izuku stops with his endeavors of escaping when he realises that Katsuki is already awake. "Good morning, Kacchan. I need to take a shower now,"
The blond responds to that with unrelenting grunts, only clinging onto Izuku more tighter. "You can do that shit later; it's your birthday, stay in bed a little longer."
Huffing in defeat, he concedes and raises his hands to Katsuki's head, gently combing through the soft locks of hair.
It was just like this for more than five minutes when Katsuki spoke again, "I know I said this already, but happy birthday, Izuku."
"Thank you, Kacchan," the greenette says as he gazes into his boyfriend's charismatic ruby eyes. How did he get so lucky with him?
