Work Text:
It was midnight, I lay awake, staring at the cabin ceiling. The breeze comes through the window, smelling salty; like the ocean. It always smelled like that, after all, this was the Poseidon cabin. I looked over and saw my brother Percy sleeping soundly in his bed. He was only a year older than me (17,) and even though we were only half siblings he still treated me like we were real siblings.
I know I should probably go to sleep. My eyes were burning from being up so late. But I promised I’d meet Connor Stoll at the lake. I know I can’t blow him off again- this would be the third time. The first was an accident, the second Percy was keeping me from leaving. I slowly slide off my bed and slip my shoes on, leaving quietly.
I walk away onto the dimly lit path towards the lake. All the cabins are quiet, everyone asleep. I get to the lake and spot Connor sitting on the dock. I walk over to him, pretending to push him in as I sit down.
“Took you long enough,” he smirked at me. “You’re lucky I even showed up,” I scoffed. My feet touch the water a little as he pulls out a cigarette pack. He asks if I want one, but I already feel like I’m gonna fall asleep if I blink too long, and smoking's not going to help.
“So… things been going well with Percy?” He asks. I sigh, wishing he didn't. “Same old Percy.”
Ever since Annabeth had become his girlfriend, he spent practically all his time with her. Before, we used to hang out almost as much as he and Annabeth do now. He doesn’t even bother to talk to me unless I talk first.
“I feel like all he cares about is Annabeth.”
“Maybe you should talk to him about it,” Connor suggests. “She’s his first girlfriend, right? Maybe he’s just so caught up with Annabeth he doesn’t realize they’re spending all their time together.” I break my eye contact with Connor and look at his reflection in the lake. “I guess…”
“At least you got me,” he says, and I can hear the smirk on his face. I looked at him and I was right. I roll my eyes cause he made me smile. “You’re not the same as having my brother,” I say.
“Well, all brothers suck anyways. Besides, imagine if he knew about us, he’d probably freak out.” Connor was right. I can’t imagine he’d be happy with the fact his little sister had a love life. I just laugh, too tired to say much.
“Probably freak out if he knew I was kissing you right now,” he says and I turn my head towards him. I kiss him for a moment, but I feel like I’m going to pass out any second, so I pull away. “I need to get back to my cabin, I’m so tired I can’t think,” I tell him. “Why are you this tired? It’s only 12.”
“I couldn’t sleep at all last night,” I told him, putting my head on his shoulder.
“Jeez, y/n- ok get up, we’re going to your cabin.”
He helps me up and walks me to the window of my cabin I’ll sneak through. “Careful, alright?” He says, helping me open the window. “Yeah, goodnight Connor,” I kiss his forehead and am about to shut the window when he stops me, saying “sweet dreams.”
I shut the window and lay flat on my bed, looking up at the ceiling again. I think about Connor, and us at the lake together… until I pass out.
