Chapter Text
The air was heavy. Heavy with rain, as the pellets of water fell upon the earth. Black and Cyan walked on the sidewalk, sharing an umbrella. Their feet splashed in the puddles.
"Rain is pretty hard today, huh?" Black asked. "Yeah, but at least the vibes are earthy," Cyan replied, rubbing their visor to get the water out. Black sighed. Yellow and Brown had invited them to their restaurant a few days ago, when they were oblivious to the weather that today would bring. "At least we're close." The address they were given was only fifteen minutes out by foot, and the author can't come up with a reason why they didn't just postpone the date or something.
A few minutes of walking later, they found themselves in front of a building with a sign above the entrance, reading "Pizzamates!" with a cheese pizza beside it. It was made of maroon bricks, with green, leafy plants decorating the outside. They stepped below the brown-and-yellow striped canopy. Black closed the transparent umbrella and shook it to get the rainwater off before sticking it in with various other umbrellas in the metal umbrella container.
They brushed their feet against the carpet, drying them somewhat. Cyan pushed the door open, ringing a bell. "Brown, they're here!" An excited voice exclaimed. Yellow walked over to the two crewmates from behind the counter. "Hello, Black and Cyan!" "Hi Yellow!" "Hey, Yellow." The cook gestured to a small table-for-two along the wall. "C'mon, sit here." They sat at the table. Brown then came from the kitchen. "Hello," they greeted. The four conversed for a while, before the cooks had to go back to work. Cyan picked up a menu from the side of the table and looked through it. Pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms, etc, etc. Their ingredients and a short description were below the pictures of each slice. They showed Black, and they eventually settled on "Yellow's Specialty," a salted pizza with pepperoni, bogreecian feta, olives, and the second use of etc, etc.
"Do you two have the order yet?" Yellow stopped by their table. "Yeah, could we get your specialty?" Black pointed at the page dedicated to it. "M'kay, do you want any drinks?" Yellow quickly scribbled down the orders in their notepad. Cyan got a fruit smoothie and Black, a can of coke.
While waiting for their food to arrive, Cyan's visor scanned the restaurant. It was quite simple. About eight tables were present. A few two-mate tables lined the wall on the right. To the right of the counter was a blackboard with the menu on it. Lists of pizzas, appetizers, and drinks were written down with some doodles on the side. On the wall opposite to the one they were sitting at, there were a few photos and paintings, the most notable being a small photo of the Skeld crew before takeoff. Cyan lingered on it a bit. Red was in the middle, their hand on a reluctant Purple's shoulder. On their sides were the rest of the crew standing in front of the entryway of the ship, excluding Green and White. Even though the trip was only a few months ago, Cyan felt some kind of fondness when they remembered the trip. Maybe it was because them and Black met there.
"Hey," Black's voice snapped Cyan out of their trance. "What are you looking at?" Cyan rested head on their hands. "Just the pictures on the wall." "Which one of them?" Cyan gestured to the general direction of the photos. "Somewhere over there." Black huffed a laugh. "Sure, sure." They turned quiet, taking their time to look at the photos. "Is it that one?" They pointed at the Skeld picture. Cyan hummed affirmatively. "Huh." The two moved on from the topic and started talking about their day. Cyan had went to work at their local gem shop, "Good Vibes Only." Black enjoyed their day off, mostly finishing their playthrough of the Rune of Deltas. "Alright, you two, I've got your food!" Yellow appeared at their table, holding the pizza and drinks. "Thanks, Yellow!"
Cyan and Black each took a slice of the pizza. "So, how is it?" Cyan smiled. "It's really good!" Black nodded. "It is really good, Yellow." Yellow laughed. "Of course it's good. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be my specialty!" They continued to talk about topics that the author chose not to describe because of a very authorly reason that they will say later.
A new customer arrived, and Yellow had to serve them. Now that they think about it, this was a pretty popular place. Cyan recounted that Yellow had said that they already had regulars. Maybe because it was the only pizza place for quite a long while. Cyan grabbed their smoothie. It was fuchsia in color and had a slushy-like texture. They took a sip. It was cold and sweet and slightly sour. They could tell the main ingredients were strawberries and mangoes. Cyan made a happy noise. "It's good, Black, try it!" Cyan pushed the cup towards their lover. Black swallowed the bite that they were chewing and drank the smoothie. "It's really sweet," they remarked. "I like it." They pushed it back to Cyan.
Over the next twenty minutes or something, Cyan and Black chatted about things. The former gushed about crystals and gems while the latter talked about their feelings on the new show for Amongst Us. "Yeah, it dropped a few weeks ago," they said, "unfortunately on MIRA branded streaming material, though." Cyan's visor gleamed with interest. "So how was it?" "It was surprisingly good, I'm gonna be honest. I did not expect that for Amongst Us."
They continued talking for a bit, before they realized that the rain had stopped sometime while they were talking because they suddenly heard a downpour outside. "I swear, this is the worst time to ever go out," Black said. "We should've really just planned this later."
After they paid and got boxes to take the pizza home so they waste it, they said their goodbyes to Brown and Yellow. "Bye, partners!" "Bye Brown, bye Yellow." "Feel free to come back anytime! Well, anytime that we're open, that is."
Black and Cyan clutched the umbrella with their lives. The rain hammered it so much that they were worried that it might break. Cyan shivered. "It's so cold." Black looked at their partner. "Really? It's cold enough to make you look like a wet dog?" Cyan punched Black's shoulder. "Oh come on, you know your fur is thicker than mine!" Black snickered. "Alright, come here." They wrapped their spare hand around Cyan, who leaned into Black's warm body. "Oh my god, you're freezing! It's almost as if you've been ice-shocked." Despite that comment, Cyan started to purr quietly. Black sighed and pulled them closer.
The partners continued their walk home in lovely silence.
