Work Text:

Scott glanced out of the window as he passed, catching the faintest glint of the moonlight reflecting on binoculars. He grinned to himself, setting Drift and Shelby’s mugs down on the side table.
“There you are.” He hummed, turning back to his room.
“Thanks Scott!” Shelby called.
“Where are you going?” Drift asked. He paused, glancing over his shoulder,
“Just going for a walk.” He said with a shrug.

The two of them sank back into the couch to continue watching whatever movie was playing on Shelby’s laptop. Honestly, he didn’t know why he bought that huge TV if Shelby insisted on watching everything on her laptop that he was fairly sure was at least ten years old by now.

(“But it’s got all my stickers on it!” Shelby had argued when he tried to replace it.)

He shut the door behind him with a click, grabbing one of his jackets from the wardrobe. He yanked the window open, crouching on the sill as he pushed it closed enough that the girls wouldn’t notice. He launched himself off, his silvery-blue bat spreading its wings in the cool breeze.

He soared up to the rooftop of the building across the road. He dropped gracefully behind Abolish, who was crouched behind an air conditioning unit watching his apartment.
“Whatcha doing, lover boy?” He whispered in his ear. Abolish swatted him away, putting his binoculars down.

He frowned despite the fond tone in his voice.
“One, I’ve told you to stop calling me that,” He said, putting one finger up,
“Two, what would Shelby and Drift think if they knew you were here, Mr. Goldsmith?” He smirked. Scott smiled slyly.
“Well then it’s a good thing they don’t, hey?” He chuckled.

“And, three, what do you want for dinner?” Scott said, tapping him on the nose. Abolish sighed.
“You know I can’t do dinner, I’m on shift.” He grumbled.
“Well your job is watching me, no? How better to watch than across the table at a nice restaurant?” Scott said. Abolish rolled his eyes.

“It’s not like you have the time for that anyway.”
“I have all the time in the world for you, love.”
“You told Shelby and Drift that you were going for a walk, if you’re gone for more than-“ He glanced at the apartment, then his watch, “-Ten minutes, the girls will be worried.” He reminded him. Scott sighed dramatically.
“I hate it when you make good points.” He muttered.

“At least give me a kiss before I go.” He tried, grinning. Abolish sighed, reaching over and grabbing him by the front of his jacket. He planted a firm kiss on Scott’s lips, before shoving him away.
“Okay, done yet?” Abolish murmured. Scott laughed,
“So ready to get rid of me.” He stood, walking to the ledge once more.

He paused, grinning lopsidedly at Abolish.
“We’re having dinner, 8 o’clock. Don’t be late.” He said, stepping back. Abolish absently raised a thumbs up. Scott laughed under his breath.
“And use the door, not a window, you maniac!” He called, letting himself drop.

He fluttered back in his window, shutting it all the way now. He came back out into the lounge area, dropping onto the couch.
“How was your walk?” Drift asked. Scott shrugged, pulling his phone out.
“Yeah, I’m sure you had such an awesome walk, without using the front door.” Drift snarked. Scott smirked.
“It would appear I’ve been found out. Drift, Shelby, I must tell you something, I’m a vampire, and don’t like using stairs.” He said seriously, putting a hand on his chest. Shelby cackled, shoving his face away.

“Just use the door you goof.” Drift laughed. Scott chuckled as well, turning back to his phone. He pulled up the contact marked as ‘Luvaboy’.

Scott: What do you want for dinner?

Luvaboy: I don’t know. Food.

Scott: Well I need to know where I’m driving us to.

Luvaboy: Please don’t make me ride in that ridiculous car.

Scott: Rude. I’ll ignore that though because you’re so handsome. ;)

Luvaboy: uhuh

Scott: I’ll make it easy, French or Italian?

Luvaboy: Fine. French.

Scott: See you at 8, monsieur <3

He chuckled under his breath, switching over to snake.

He made it through one game, checking the time every few minutes, before the doorbell rang.
“I can get it.” Shelby chirped, jumping up. Scott almost went to stop her, but didn’t, watching her wander over to the door with a smile.

He heard the door open and Shelby gasp.
“Abolish!” She yelped. Drift whipped around. Scott chuckled under his breath. He saw Drift shoot him a suspicious look, but she turned back to the entry hallway.

“What- why- I- You’re dead!” Shelby finally landed on. He heard Abolish shuffle uncomfortably.
“Uhm, yeah. I was just going to pick up Scott-“ He started. Scott covered his mouth with his hand trying to hold in the laughter. Shelby made a betrayed noise.
“You’re coming with me!” He heard her yell, the door slamming shut.

She came around the corner, dragging a very uncomfortable Abolish by the wrist. He glared at Scott when he spotted him on the couch.
“I really shouldn’t be in here.” He said pointedly.
“And you also really shouldn’t be dating Scott Goldsmith, add it to the list, lover boy.” Scott laughed, vaulting over the couch, grabbing him by the elbow and steering him out of the apartment before Shelby and Drift could properly get a grip on them.

“Come on, love. The faster you’re in that car, the less likely you are to get interrogated.” He whispered as he shut the door.
“Good reason.” Abolish whispered, putting on a burst of speed.

Scott laughed as the elevator doors shut and he heard the door slam open in the hall.

He tapped his fingers against the wheel as he drove.
“I didn’t think you’d be brave enough to eat the snails.” Scott laughed, glancing at Abolish. Abolish sighed.
“I was apparently brave enough to go to the door of your apartment. Eyes on the road.” He said, smiling at him sideways.
“Yeah, well. I thought you were smart enough to not actually ring the bell.” Scott chuckled.
“Apparently not.”

“Well, I’m going to need an address now, so I can actually drop you home.” Scott said casually. Abolish snorted.
“Good luck with that.” He muttered.
“Alright then, I guess you’ll just need to stay in my apartment.” Scott said coyly. Abolish opened his mouth, but Scott put one finger on his lips.

“Ah-ah. Decision made. You’re staying at the apartment.” He laughed. Abolish slapped his hand away.
“Ten and two.” He reminded him.
“Yes mother.” Scott sighed fondly.

He pulled into the car park, switching off the engine.
“Alright. We have two ways of playing this,” He said, turning to look at Abolish. “You face the music now, or in the morning.” Abolish sighed.
“I’m too tired for that shit tonight.” He muttered. Scott grinned.

“Window it is.” He said, swinging out of the door and vaulting over the hood to open Abolish’s door. Abolish sighed as Scott helped him out.
“Why is everything with you dramatic?”

“I’m dating a wannabe James Bond, you don’t get a vote.” Scott chuckled.
“I’m not a wannabe. I have an actual license to kill.” Abolish said drily, but he grinned at Scott.

“And that’s why I love you.” Scott sighed, looping an arm around Abolish’s waist and kissing his cheek.

———————————————————————

Abolish woke up at 6 am sharp that morning, like he did every morning. He rolled over, patting around the bed looking for Scott. He grunted sleepily when he couldn’t find him, dragging his eyes open.

The sheets were rumpled where Scott had been, but he was gone. Abolish grumbled, rolling out of the bed with a thump.
“Oof.” He mumbled, peeling himself off the carpet. Scott had no right having such a nice bed, and such soft carpets.

This man would be the death of him, he usually woke up at 6 am sharp and was ready and out the door by five past.

The door opened softly, light spilling in. He mumbled grumpily, shielding his eyes.
“Hey, love.” Scott whispered, slinking up and draping his arms over Abolish’s shoulders.
“You were gone.” He whispered sleepily.
“Mhm. Sorry, love. Had to go get you a coffee.” He whispered, passing him the mug.
“You’re forgiven.” Abolish sighed.

He swayed, sagging into Scott. Scott chuckled under his breath.
“Woah there, lover boy. Back to bed for you I think.” Scott breathed, taking his coffee off him again and setting it gently on the side table. Abolish grabbed after it groggily as Scott scooped up the mound of blankets where Abolish had fallen out of the bed. He pushed him gently back onto the bed, despite his weak protests.

“I have work.” Abolish muttered.
“You need sleep.” Scott argued.
“No I don’t, this is weird brain magic that’s making me think I’m tired.” Abolish mumbled, dragging Scott into the bed beside him and burying his face in his shoulder.
“Sure.” Scott chuckled, pulling the blankets back over him. “And just think, the longer you stay here, the less likely Shelby and Drift will see you.” He whispered.
“Don’t tempt me.” Abolish grumbled.

The door slammed open with a crash.
“Scott, you better-“ Shelby squawked.
“Would you shush, dear? He’s asleep.” Scott cut in, scolding her gently.
“‘M not.” Abolish grunted.
“Yes, love.” Scott sighed. Shelby made a very undignified noise, and then the door slammed shut.

“You’re in for it now, love.” Scott chuckled.
“Shut up until 9 o’clock.” Abolish mumbled.

———————————————————————

Scott’s alarm rang at 9 sharp.
“Damn punctuality.” Abolish grunted into his shoulder. Scott laughed,
“Come on, time to get up.” Scott said, slipping out of the bed. Abolish whined weakly but dragged himself after him.

“I’m never staying in your apartment again.” Abolish complained as Scott got changed.
“Mm. I’d have to adjust my schedule for the sleep deprived gremlin in my bed if you did.” Scott snarked.
“That’s not my fault. Your bed is too soft.” Abolish grumbled. Scott laughed.
“Sure it is. Come on, time to explain yourself.” Scott teased, taking his hand and opening the door.

Shelby launched in front of them barely half a second later.
“Geez, Shelby, were you camping my room?” Scott sighed.
“Maybe I was! Explain why there was a dead man in your bed!” She yelled. Scott winced.
“Please don’t say it like that.” He grumbled.

“I still need coffee.” Abolish said. Scott rolled his eyes.
“I gave you coffee.”
“It’s cold.”
“You fell asleep.”
“You put a spell on me.”
“Aww, such a way with words.” Scott chuckled.
“Shelby, we’ll have this conversation once I’ve caffeinated my gremlin.” Scott said, shoving Abolish toward the kitchen. Shelby scrambled after them, indignantly rambling about something or other.

He left Abolish in one of the stools at the island bench, humming as he started the coffee machine.
“Why are you alive?” Shelby asked, sliding into the stool beside Abolish. He sighed.

“Scott.” He whined.
“You got yourself into this one.” Scott laughed, putting the mug down in front of him.
“How?” He grumbled, taking a sip.
“By being alive.” Scott replied.
“I hate you.” He muttered into his coffee.
“That’s not what you thought last night.” Scott teased. Abolish groaned, flopping down on the bench.

“You know what, I’ll figure this out later. We’re talking at some point mister!” Shelby called, pointing at Abolish as she walked away. Scott leant one elbow on the bench, smirking at Abolish.
“You really dodged a bullet that Drift’s not here.” He chuckled. Drift slid into the stool beside Abolish.
“That’s what you think.”
