Work Text:
"A Candle"
Hot.
My fingers reach for it without care,
Desperate, grasping at the air.
I open my eyes, yet there's no flair,
Only walls staring at me, chill and bare.
Hot.
My hands move before I think,
The metal cool against my skin.
I check the time. How long has it been?
The vision fades just as I blink.
Hot.
I feel them, even as my world grows cold.
Your fiery trails, drawn on my soul,
When we were free, our voices - sound;
When the only worry was to be bold.
Hot.
I'm surrounded by silence and dark,
Both should be freezing through the core.
And yet, despite it all, my fire grows more,
As if your single word was like a spark.
Hot.
I feel the heat and welcome it,
My hands spread open widely.
Why, you ask? It shines so brightly;
Burns me, but I'm a candle that's been lit.
