Work Text:
Tommy’s day had been going so well. He had woken up well-rested for once. It was a weekend so he didn’t have any school, and now he was supposed to be doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the day.
Instead, he was sobbing in his bed, grasping his sheets in agony. Tears were streaming down the blond’s face as he muffled his yelps of pain. Tommy’s wings were coming in.
Blood poured down the boy’s back, skin stretching awkwardly as new appendages grew in.
He really hoped nobody heard his screams of pain, he couldn’t be seen as weak! And besides, Tommy really didn’t want to bother his family; he knew he was the annoying little brother, and didn’t want to further that notion.
A knock echoed through his, otherwise silent, room. Oh god, he can barely stop himself from yelling for his family as is.
“Tommy?” Wilbur cut through his thoughts “Are you okay? I can hear you from my room.
Nothing but a whimper escaped from his mouth, his brain was far too scrambled to even attempt reassuring his brother. Why did this have to happen today?
Tommy knew he was an avian. He didn’t remember his birth parents, but he had all the hybrid instincts. He couldn’t see glass, he had the urges to build nests and preen his ‘flock’, he could always just tell how to get somewhere, even if he hadn’t been there before, and he hated when someone got near his room who wasn’t family.
His door clicked open, light filling the room from the corridor. A feeble whine escaped the younger boy’s scratchy throat.
“Oh,” Wilbur crooned, “You could’ve told us you were growing your wings.” The brunette took a step into Tommy’s nest.
“Didn’ wanna bother you. I’s dumb.” He managed to get out, clawing at his hair. Anything to distract him from the burning in his back.
“You could never bother us Toms, we love you.” A new voice startled Tommy,
“Dad?” The youngest whispered. Phil took Tommy in his arms, cradling him with his own shiny, black wings. “I’m here, too.” A monotonous voice, somehow filled with sarcasm, announced.
“Tec’no?”
Suddenly, the pain in his back amped up, begging him to let the wings out. If the neighbours thought somebody was dying as he screamed bloody murder, that was their problem.
Torture. That was the only thing Tommy could compare this to. Red hot pain flashed his mind, as his vision was blinded with white. “-mmy, Tommy. Come on, it’s alr-“ The young avian was gone, asleep for the rest of his metamorphosis.

A groan slipped out of Tommy’s mouth. God he didn’t want to be awake right now. Sleep sounded great, more and more appealing by the second. He totally wasn’t just asleep for 10 hours.
“Nope, you need to eat before you fall asleep again,” A pink blob said? Wait, no that was Techno. He liked Techno, his older brother was Protector. Baby chirps tumbled from Tommy’s lips, calling to Techno. “… Fine.” The pink haired man crawled onto the bed.
That was how Tommy fell asleep once again, cuddled against Techno, new white wings spread across the bed.
And if Wilbur and Phil took photos? Well that was no one else’s business except theirs. And if those photos ended up framed in the living room? Well, the neighbours are used to noise at this point; Techno shoving Wilbur into the sofa was nothing out of the normal.
