"I love you"

Summary:

An alternative ending that Dean decided to take instead of the canon confession moment during Season 15 episode 18

Notes:

I was bored, wrote something quick.

Hope you like it!

Work Text:

Dean felt frozen, trapped in a moment he couldn't escape from.

Cas loves him? No, that can't be, surely that can't be.

Dean felt his lips go dry as the eyes of the angel in front of him wept, staring at him with such lovestruck vision that Dean knew what he had said was true.

He couldn't believe it, but it was true,

So as Cas stood in front of him, staring with such sorrow and expecting the empty to take him away, Dean did the one thing he knew would save him. Would save both of them from what was about to happen,

He grabbed a hold of the lapels of Cas' coat, brought him in closer than they had ever been before, their breaths mixing with one another and as the sliding darkness of the empty began to roll in, Dean slammed Cas in so close that their lips touch and parted against one another,

The empty felt like tar as it danced from Cas along to Dean's fingers, touching him but he refused to let go of his angel, he would never let go of his angel.
Never.

Dean knew what awaited the both of them, knew he couldn't hold on to either his angel or the hope forever but he didn't care. He just kept his lips planted, all his love spilling onto Cas and the fear he once held sliding away.

"Dean-" Cas tried to mumble against his lips but Dean refused to let him go, a smile dancing on his lips. He shushed him, a short grin on his face as he gently kiss him once more, letting their breathing hitch together as he held onto him tight, an embrace no one could ever break.

"I love you too." Dean quietly let out, their foreheads touching one another as their limbs stayed together, The dark sludge of the empty was still against their skin, still trying to separate the two of them but the hunter still would not let go.

"Dean, please, leave me." Cas whispered but Dean shook his head, a short laugh leaving him.

"Never."

So as the darkness came closer, covered their bodies in a dark sludge, Dean still didn't let go. A horrible sludge that felt like burning and yet Dean still refused to let go. Instead, he stared into the face of his angel and smiled, his hand reaching upwards and a short grin pressed against his skin.

"I love you." He whispered, and he meant it.

No matter what, he would always meant it.

For his love.

For his angel.

For Castiel.

Forever.
