"Giyu," Sanemi muttered softly, his first name slipping so easily off his lips now. Yet Giyu didn’t move. Unease crept into Sanemi’s shaky voice, but he tried to hide it with one of his usual remarks. "I told you, after your freaking garden, I’m not kneeling in the dirt ever again."
He hoped for something, anything, but all he got was a look. Giyu’s big blue eyes, full of unshed tears, raised to him and oh, the world didn’t feel right when Giyu Tomioka was so openly broken.
So, in a heartbeat, Sanemi dropped to his knees, right by Giyu’s side, and sighed.
Exactly one year after the Final battle, Giyu decides to try a different kind of mission. To honor each friend he lost, he forces himself to make a tribute of sorts. Sanemi judges him for it, and yet he still gets pulled into it each time, until he gives in.
Even from beyond, Sanemi and Giyu’s loved ones may have found a way to show them that what they truly needed had been there all along.
