    Summary

When Anakin tries to kill him, it catches Obi-Wan with his guard down.

He'd braced for it, of course—in those early days, when Palpatine's attack dog still looked at him from the cracks in Anakin's composure, still had the old loyalty burning in his eyes. But this? Now? When Anakin follows his voice like a prayer and drops to his knees like it's the only place he belongs? When he begs, not for mercy, but for more? Obi-Wan had let himself believe the threat had passed. That was his mistake.
