You are the father

Summary:

Kurt meets his father. It's not who he expected.

Notes:

I doubt I would be remiss to assume that, if you are reading this fic, you would have some knowledge of the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. A film I mainly remember for the worst Deadpool, an okay I guess Gambit, and an underrated Sabertooth, that one scene with the helicopter, and Hugh Jackman carrying the movie on his back so hard that 8 years later in Logan (2017) his skeleton was still suffering the effects and poisoning him.

What I assume not as many people know about is the video game based on that movie. (If you did know about it, then congrats.) The game is remembered much more fondly than the movie, is much more violent (R rated), and contains a lot of expansion on plot details. One very interesting detail brought up in the game was the inclusion of Mystique, who was shown to be in a romantic relationship with John Wraith (the guy played by Will.i.am in both the movie and the game, and who is a character in the comics with no connection to Kurt). The game pretty much says outright that he is Nightcrawler’s dad (she’s pregnant with his son and he suggests the name Kurt). Considering all the other possible parents Nightcrawler has had over the years, I feel like Wraith would be the least bad influence. But wherever I have looked, I have never seen a fanfic about Kurt meeting his dad, John Wraith.

Until today.

I chose Evolution to set this story in because that Raven was like, the second most toxic version there out of all of her appearances (number 1 being the comics). So the poor guy could use a break.

Chapter Text

John stared solemnly as the papers were slid across the table to him.

“Don’t try and put this on me, John,” Raven spat, her arms folded. He looked up with a sigh.

“I’m too tired to play the blame game, Rave,” he whispered.

The cold look on her face softened but didn’t vanish.

“Then just sign and get it over with,” she practically ordered.

“Nothing I could say to change your mind?” he asked.

“Just like there’s nothing I could say to change yours,” she folded her arms.

John picked up the pen and scrawled out his name.

“Then I wish you the best,” he murmured.

Raven scowled as she tore the gold wedding ring off her finger and threw it on the table. She marched off, slamming the door out of the house and out of his life. He caught a glimpse of her transformation as she walked off. Her blue skin turned pale, her red hair turned brown, and her white suit turned grey. She looked just like one of the humans she hated so much.

John closed his eyes and channeled what little focus he had left into thoughts of the couch. He couldn’t make it to the bed.

Within a second, he was lying across the space where he and his wife had spent so many TV dinners. A space that would never be shared again.

As he laid there, he picked up a framed photo. It was the two of them on their wedding day. That seemed so far away now. A day when they had seen nothing but the best in each other. Seen a future.

No future could come of them now.
