Save Me, Matcha

Summary:

If you ask me why this fic exist, it's all because I wanted to drink matcha.

Unfortunately, I cannot have matcha for now, so I shall project this all on Baek Saheon, my little pony.

Oh, and make it solsahsol, of course.

Notes:

This is gonna be my last solsahsol fic for the week and possibly next week so I'll see you all on the last week of July or smth

anyway, this fic is just... trying to comfort myself bcs there's a specific matcha that I want (which my sister bought two weeks ago) and now I crave that very specific matcha.... unfortunately, I have tummy issues atm so I can't drink caffeine. Unfortunately x2, my sister's work shift ends at 10 pm..... so there's no time for her to buy me my matcha.

I'll die a miserable death from this lack of matcha. So I'll bring Saheon-ie to hell with me

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Baek Saheon wanted matcha.

At the ungodly hour of 9 pm.

Usually, the one he pesters for his sudden cravings is his older sister, who always complains but still buys everything he wants, anyway, because that's what older sisters are made for.

Unfortunately, his sister was assigned to night shifts until the end of the week. So his one call away was unavailable.

Which leads to Baek Saheon's current predicament.

He was miserable.

With his face planted on his mattress, body slumped across his bed with his feet dangling on the edge, Baek Saheon felt like he might as well die from being matcha-deprived.

No. He was certainly not exaggerating nor being dramatic. He was seriously going to die.

Baek Saheon grumbled, but it only came out muffled since his face was literally pressed against the mattress.

A minute passed…

Baek Saheon whined, slammed his hands on the mattress, and kicked around.

And then he stopped.

A loud (fake) sob started coming out of him.

…To a spectator, Kim Soleum, that was lowkey concerning.

"…What is wrong with you?"

Baek Saheon's only response was an indignant grunt with a quick kick of his feet. Nothing else after that.

Kim Soleum scrunched his nose.

"I'm assuming this has something to do with your sister."

Not quite, but he wasn't exactly wrong.

Still, Baek Saheon didn't respond. He didn't want to. If he had to open his mouth, he was certain that the only thing coming out of his mouth was "Matcha".

His lack of response only prompted Kim Soleum to approach him.

He carefully sat next to Baek Saheon's limp body and stroked his hair.

"What's wrong?"

Baek Saheon let out a grunt. From that alone, Kim Soleum could already make out a, 'If you love me, you would know what I want without asking' or something along those lines.

But then again, Kim Soleum was not a mind reader, so there was no way he could telepathically know what was wrong with his lover.

Unfortunately, if he cannot get this right, Baek Saheon would throw away the words, 'Let's break up! I don't want to see you! Get out of my life!' without hearing him out.

Baek Saheon was unreasonable like that. But then again, it was quite endearing, so Kim Soleum kept on trying his best to be what Baek Saheon wants him to be (even though Baek Saheon can get really annoying about his wants and needs).

Well. Kim Soleum only has himself to blame, honestly. He should have known better than to date someone's spoiled little brother, but here we are. Nothing much he can do about that now.

He loves Baek Saheon too much to care about his bitchy attitude and whiny tendencies. Two years of dating just made all those "annoying" traits endearing.

But it can be a bit of a struggle sometimes.

Perhaps Kim Soleum's only saving grace is the fact that he was well-acquainted with Baek Saheon's older sister, so if there was something he needed, he could always ask her for help.

So Kim Soleum took his cheat code called 'Sister knows best'. That is, texting Baek Saheon's sister to try getting clues on why Baek Saheon was miserable in his bed.

The reply came 10 minutes later with a list of things she had recently bought at Baek Saheon's request.

Analyzing the list one by one, Kim Soleum began to cross-check which one of these was the one that Baek Saheon wanted. Mind you, the only reason why Baek Saheon would act this miserably is usually because of his intense cravings, and nothing else. So it was easy to understand that he was acting this way because he wanted something, which he unfortunately couldn't get.

After a few more minutes of analysis, Kim Soleum was able to make the top 3 possible cravings.

He sincerely hoped that one of those three was the right answer.

Patting Baek Saheon's back, he said that he was heading out for a bit. He did not hear a response, but he was sure that Baek Saheon heard him clearly.

Not wanting to waste too much time outside (lest he end up with a sulking Baek Saheon because he left him alone for too long), Kim Soleum hurried to get all three things that he needed.

An overloaded cheeseburger from KCF, a bucket of chicken nuggets from that one shop he knew Baek Saheon frequented with his sister, and lastly…

Chrng!

Thankfully, the cafe three streets away from their apartment was still open.

"I'd like one matcha milk tea with no boba and less sugar with strawberries as toppings."

'…Baek Saheon's cravings better be one of these three, otherwise he might kick me out tonight.'

Although Kim Soleum kept a poker face, in his heart, he was actually weeping.

He was desperately hoping that he wouldn't add more to Baek Saheon's misery by getting the wrong thing.

Once the matcha order was secured in his hands, Kim Soleum drove back to their apartment.

"I'm back."

No response. From left to right, no sight of a single brown fur.

Must still be sulking on the bed then.

Kim Soleum trudged towards the bedroom, and the door was still ajar, exactly as before he left. There on the bed, Baek Saheon had not moved from his position. He was still lying on his stomach, his face pressed on the mattress.

"Jagiya, are you asleep?"

No response. No movement. Only even breathing.

Kim Soleum lightly shook the plastic bags he was holding.

Chug! Chung! Chng!

"!!!"

Baek Saheon got up so fast when he heard the sound of ice shaking in a bottle, and when he saw the greenest forest in the form of his boyfriend holding a matcha (and other food that he completely ignored), Baek Saheon teared up and quickly ran up to him with his hands held out.

Kim Soleum's face brightened.

'I got it right!'

"Jagi…"

When he thought Baek Saheon was running up to him to hug and kiss him for fulfilling his cravings, Baek Saheon…

Grabbed the matcha milk tea and hugged it to his face with the most puppy-like expression possible.

Kim Soleum, who was expecting a kiss, "…."

…It seemed he got completely replaced by matcha in his lover's eyes.

"Jagiya… I know I always tease you for being a goat, but you didn't actually turn into a—"

Baek Saheon shot him a glare and then kicked him out of the room.

"WH—?! WHAT ABOUT MY THANK YOU KISS?!"

Baek Saheon's only response was slamming the door in his face.

Kim Soleum… was gagged.

Notes:

Not fun fact, I have insomnia. Fun fact, the first time my sister made me drink matcha at... 11 pm, I slept so well I felt like I was a new person the next day. Then the day after that, my sister bought me strawberry matcha, and I still slept with no problems.

Lesson learned: Cure to insomnia? Matcha. Not even melatonin saved my ass. Not even cetirizine made me sleepy. It was only matcha.

Be warned: Research says that although matcha aids with sleep (it has L-theanine, which promotes relaxation and lowers stress hormones/cortisols), it doesn't actually work for some people, because matcha has caffeine too. So I do not guarantee that matcha will be able to help you sleep at night (if you have insomnia like me), but I do suggest giving it a shot. ^^

Not sure if I understood what I read correctly but apparently it mostly helps people with high levels of anxiety? (....I do have high anxiety) but it can be quite disruptive for more caffeine-sensitive people, so for caffeine-sensitive people, it is not advisable to drink matcha at night.
