Work Text:

Nero doesn't even know how he found himself in the Redgrave Branch by himself. Man all he wanted to do was go home and his ticket was through one of his dad's portals. It was raining like no tomorrow in Redgrave. It was so bad that he couldn't even see the street through the window.

Though at least he wasn't out in the rain, honestly this weather could get someone sick or killed. There was no way the twins, the permanent residents of this office, were out in the rain right? He knows they aren't able to get sick but even walking through a makeshift hurricane is insane even for them. They had to be out on a job somewhere else.

Finding nothing else to wonder about Nero finds himself just sitting where Dante would usually be napping staring at the ceiling. Swaying back and forth in the old office chair and letting his mind wander a bit. He could call Kyrie, but she did tell him she was taking the boys out so probably not. There was Nico, even if he would never admit it to her face, he did love spending time with his work partner but she was busy.

Though her driving needs so much work. That actually left him thinking about the other hunters for the office such as Trish and Lady. He knows that Lady was out on a hunt/security detail for some rich guy but the demoness? Nero had no idea where Trish was. Hopefully out of this rainstorm.

Sighing Nero decided to stare at the door that only rattled a bit with the wind pressing a bit. With how shit Dante kept the shop sometimes he was honestly surprised the place could withstand a storm. Perhaps it was his dad's doing, he knows the old man was insistent on deep cleaning the place whenever he felt pissed off. Was cleaning considered a coping mechanism?

There was a quick flash and abrupt boom from the thunder after. It was somehow getting worse. Nero found himself staring at the ceiling wondering why that sounded so close. Though his thoughts didn't last long when another lightning struck closer to the shop. The power went out soon after.

"Fuck." Nero grumbled knowing damn well he can't do anything about this now.

Maybe he could try braving the storm to catch a ride to the nearest airport. But with weather being this bad he highly doubts there are any flights to Fortuna. Nero decided he was gonna just take a nap, maybe if he is lucky the twins will be back when he wakes up. Save him from his boredom and misery of being in the wrong city.

Almost as if a prayer or a curse, as soon as Nero put his head down he heard the doorbell chime. Someone entering the shop in this weather was actually insane. There better not be a demon attacking in this weather or else Nero was going to throw hands. He peeked over the desk with Blue Rose in hand just in case. One big shadow looked imposing in the doorway with it's back turned to him and for some reason was holding the door open letting the wind in.

"Hey asshole! Close the door?!" Nero shouted, the figure turned a bit but promptly looked forward before stepping aside when another shadow ran next to it.

"Holy Shit! I can't see!" A familiar slew of swears graced the shop as Nero registered in the dark that Dante was the one on the floor. His father closed the door after his twin got through. Why did he think they were sane? Of course they were out in the rain.

"Likewise. For something that was meant to assist it does not assist very well with this weather." His dad said, given that it was insanely dark in the office could only vaguely make out where the twins were.

"Hello dumbasses. Why were you both outside in the rain?" Nero squinted in the direction of something glowing. He swears that he saw something blue just floating and glowing in the dark.

"Nero? Hey kid! What are you doing here?" Dante wheezed a bit but Nero found himself staring at 2 glowing eyes in the dark. What the fuck?

"What the—?! Your eyes glow in the dark?" Nero sat back down in the office chair while his vision somewhat adjusted to the twins standing on the other side of the desk.

With how drenched they both were it was no surprise that they both had their hair in their faces. Honestly it made it very clear that they were twins since they looked identical in the moment. But that wasn't really what caught his attention, it wasn't the fact their literal eyes glowed in the dark either. No it was the fact they were both wearing glasses for some fucking reason.

"Oh? I didn't know that. Verge?" Dante sounded genuinely confused.

"I could not tell you brother. Nero are you unable to see? Why are you squinting?" His dad asked it like he could see! Unless...

"That's cause I can't. It's pitch black in here. Barely any light since the power went out cause of the lightning. Are you telling me you have night vision or some shit?" Nero swears his family are fucking bats.

"Yes it appears to be so. Ashame it did not pass onto you." His father said flatly. Nero only recently started noticing the gap between himself and the twins in terms of demon powers. Night vision would be so handy.

"Anyway, why were you two in the rain? Actually forget that, you are both insane so you absolutely would. What's with the glasses?" Nero leaned on his hand while watching them both stare at each other.

He hates when they do this weird silent conversation by just staring at each other. Because once one of them breaks the tension they either fight or argue. The last thing they needed was the office in two pieces while in the middle of a storm. This was a shelter not hell on earth, much less a place to brawl.

"We wanted to try something new." Dante said plain and simple with his signature smirk.

"What." Nero isn't buying it but then his father piped in.

"Humans have so many little trinkets that they insist on using for whatever reason. My brother and I had come to the realization that we don't use nearly as much as the humans provide. So we are taking this as a learning experience for the both of us." Vergil, his father was being genuine.

Nero looked in-between the twins and realized how insanely out of touch they were with the human world. His dad he could understand, the old man was in the wild for a good 30 years but Dante? His uncle has been living among them for decades how has he not picked up on any of that? Actually nevermind, this was the same man that thought Pizza was the Pinnacle of all foods before trying Kyrie's cooking.

"You are telling me that you wanted to try on glasses just for fun?" Nero could see them both stare at him for a second before shrugging in sync. Freakin' twin shit will forever spook him when they get along enough for it to happen.

"Anyway kid, what's up? Why are you here?" Dante asked before reaching over to ruffle his hair. Nero batted it away before he could. Weird when was he starting to see the world like it wasn't dark?

"I finished my job early, was already in the area. Nico needed to see someone in town so I thought a quick trip here would get me home. Go figure neither of you were here." Nero did just want to go home but now he was genuinely curious what else the twins were planning on doing.

"Well that's an easy fix now." Dante nudged his twin. Vergil grumbled before moving his hair out of his face. It was much better when they had different hairstyles, genuinely.

Nero would never say it to them but when they both had their hair down it was hard to tell them apart. The different color jackets would be a dead give away but if they were to lose it and just have plain clothes? It would be hell trying to pick who is who. Dante does smile more but sometimes he wouldn't and for a bit Nero would think he was Vergil. The reverse would happen if he saw his dad smile.

But that's not important right now.

"Nah that can wait. Please tell me you two know the actual reason people wear glasses."

"To look cool?"

"Hm. Fashionable."

"Oh my Savior. No!"
