Work Text:

The last thing Hinata thought he'd wake up to was loads of messages from his old teammates about the photo he posted the day before with Oikawa. They ranged from surprise and teasing to congratulations on his relationship with the setter. Kageyama had been annoyed that he hadn't trusted him to tell him about getting together with Oikawa, since he had confided in him about his relationship with Hoshiumi before they started dating.

Hinata couldn't bring himself to respond to any of them. How could they think he was dating Oikawa because of one photo? He didn't even understand how his friends concluded he was dating Oikawa. There wasn't anything special about the picture. They were just both smiling. Like, they all saw the type of girls Oikawa dated back in high school, so why would they think he would even glance in his direction?

Hinata groaned into his pillow. He was supposed to be meeting up with Oikawa for breakfast. How was he going to be able to act normal around him now? He had been really good at burying his feelings for him, but he didn't think that was going to be possible any more.

Hinata just hoped Oikawa wouldn't pick up on his feelings because he didn't want to lose him as a friend. Their friendship meant too much to him, and he didn't want to do anything that would jeopardise it.

"What's wrong, Chibi-chan? You're being usually quiet," Oikawa asked when he could hardly get more than five words out of the redhead.

"It's nothing. Don't worry about it, Oikawa-san," Hinata said with a forced smile. He should've cancelled his plans with Oikawa until he got his emotions in order. But if he had done that, Hinata knew he wouldn't see Oikawa before he had to go back to Argentina, and the thought of not seeing Oikawa for the foreseeable future was something he didn't want to think about.

"It can't be nothing if you're upset about it," Oikawa pointed out as he tapped his fingers on the table.

Hinata sighed. He should've known that Oikawa wasn't going to drop it. "I'm not upset." That was a blatant lie, but he was trying to ignore the fact that the man in front of him would never be with him romantically. "My friends are just overreacting to something that's all. It's nothing serious, I promise."

"Hinata."

"They think we're dating because of the photo we took together," Hinata blurted out before he could stop himself. He then slightly cursed himself for not being able to lie to Oikawa. His face felt like it was on fire, and he had no doubt in his mind that the setter must have realised he had feelings for him. Hinata wanted nothing more than the ground to open up and swallow him whole.

"Oh, really?"

Hinata kept staring at the table. He refused to look at what expression was on Oikawa's face. "It's ridiculous, right? I don't get why they would ever think you'd date me, of all people?" His laugh sounded so forced it made him cringe. Hinata wished he could go back in time and not have uploaded that photo because now he didn't think he could look at that photo without thinking about what he could never have.

Hinata closed his eyes when he heard Oikawa get up from his seat. He should've expected him to leave. Of course, he wouldn't want to hang around him any more. At least it was better than him laughing about the whole thing because that would've broken his heart.

"Am I not being obvious enough?"

Hinata nearly jumped out of his seat. He hadn't realised Oikawa had sat down in the chair beside him. "W-what?" he stuttered.

And with that, Oikawa gently cupped Hinata's face and kissed him.

Hinata's mind went blank. He wanted to respond to the kiss, but his body was frozen in place. He felt like he had to be in a dream because how else could this be possible? That 'The Grand King' Oikawa Tooru was kissing him. Hinata never wanted to forget the feeling of Oikawa's warm lips against his.

Oikawa leaned his forehead against Hinata's and whispered, "Is that obvious enough for you?"

"Y-you like me?" Hinata asked in disbelief.

Oikawa leaned back and laughed. "You're killing me, Shou-chan."

Hinata's heart felt like it jumped from hearing Oikawa call him 'Shou-chan'. What was he supposed to say? He was still trying to comprehend that Oikawa kissed him and it wasn't a joke.

Oikawa's smile faltered as he took Hinata's silence as rejection. "Did I misunderstand? I'm sorry if-"

In a panic, Hinata grabbed Oikawa by the collar and pulled him close. "N-no! You didn't. I just can't believe you like m-me."

Oikawa smiled and kissed Hinata's cheek. "How could I not?" The past couple of weeks he had spent with the redhead had been some of the best days of his life. Not only did he regain the passion he once had for volleyball because of Hinata, but he also found himself falling in love, and it was something he wanted to explore because he had never felt like this in any of his past relationships.

"That's not fair," Hinata whined as he blushed even more.

"But you do like me, Shouyou?" Oikawa needed to hear those words from him for them to be real.

Hinata inhaled deeply to try to help calm his heart down before he confessed, "I do like you… Tooru-san."

This time it was Oikawa who got flustered. He hadn't thought hearing Hinata say his given name would affect him that much. He coughed awkwardly to try and hide his embarrassment. "At least now you don't need to correct your friends about us, right?"

Hinata couldn't keep the smile off his face as he nodded. If anything, he owed his friends big time because if not for their messages, who knew how long it would've taken for him to notice Oikawa had been flirting with him all this time.
