EverGreen

Summary:

On June 20, Green was not found in his room. He didn't even leave a note saying where he had gone.

The only thing found on his bed was his phone, which was battered and had a cracked screen.

Notes:

HI THERE! My name is Suchkorez, and I hope you’ll enjoy this fanfic. It took me a really long time to write it.
This fanfiction was heavily inspired by "The diary of a time looper" by Kodeake. https://www.fimfiction.net/story/440447/diary-of-a-time-looper

Sorry for my poor English.
Enjoy the story!

(A quick note: The events of “The Influencer’s Arc” took place before the third season of AVA. I didn’t notice this mistake—I’m sorry about that. I hope this detail doesn’t ruin your experience.)

Work Text:

Day 18

I guess I was so desperate that I decided to start keeping a sort of daily log in my “Notes.” Even though I know very well that it’ll disappear anyway in the next loop.

But damn it, I need to get my thoughts in order, and Blue once mentioned that keeping a journal helps organize your thoughts and feelings. It’s worth a try.

I’m Green, and I live in Alan’s PC with my friends: Orange, Blue, Yellow, and Red. We’re all chilling in a big house right now that Yellow got for us using his staff. Each of us lives on a different floor—I’m on the second floor, for example. But that’s not really important.

There’s something else that’s important. I’ve been stuck in a time loop for about 18 days now. Every morning, I wake up on June 20, 2022. I have absolutely no idea what caused me to get stuck in this loop, and I certainly don’t know how to get out of it. Every time midnight strikes, I immediately feel unbearably tired and pass out. And no matter where I was before that, I always wake up in my own bed, on my own floor, at exactly 9:30 a.m., and Red bursts into my room calling me to come eat breakfast. And the worst part is that I’m the only one who knows I’m stuck in a loop. No matter who I talk to about it, none of the guys understand what I’m talking about. I even tried talking to Purple about it, but he didn’t get it either. And that really gets me down—I have absolutely no idea what to do. Every day is exactly the same; everyone does the exact same things as in the previous cycle. The only thing that’s different is me. I can literally do anything—change the day itself—but it won’t affect the next cycle at all.

Right now, I’m writing all this down, as if I’m hoping this note will change at least something. But damn it, I had to get everything sorted out; otherwise, I would’ve definitely gone crazy from my own jumbled thoughts.

Okay, I need to figure out how to get out of all this.

Day 19

I can't believe it. Yesterday's note, or rather, the note from the previous cycle, is still on my phone! I don't know how or why this works, but, damn it, it doesn't matter anymore! Maybe this will help me break out of the cycle somehow.

Well, since this is how things are, I think I should write down what I need to do and what to write.

I’ll definitely be writing down everything that happened in the previous cycle. Ever since this whole situation started, all I’ve done is try to break the cycle somehow, completely forgetting about all the plans my friends and I had made for the 19th. Seriously, I don’t even remember what I did on the very first day of the cycle. I’ve been way too absorbed in my problem. Sometimes I just need to relax with my friends. Spend some time with them.

That’s all for now. Gotta go look for the information I need.

Day 24

I feel like I’m just a little bit away from becoming a pro in quantum physics. It’s not that I’m interested in physics itself or its subfields, but there’s nothing I wouldn’t do in my situation. And considering that I’m stuck in a time loop, I have plenty of time to learn something new. Although, honestly, the more I study this science, the more it starts to seem like I’m wasting my time. No, sure, I found an interesting article about a closed timelike curve, but still, it’s not quite what I need.

Well, at least I bragged to Yellow that I’d started to get the hang of a science like physics. They were impressed that I’d figured out the laws, theories, and so on pretty quickly. If only they knew…

Oh, and Yellow also noticed how exhausted I was and started to get seriously worried about me. I managed to convince them that everything was fine. I don’t think they believed me at the time, but they left me alone, telling me one last time to make sure I got some proper rest.

I’d love to.

Anyway, I hope this new knowledge of mine will prove useful in some way.

Day 27

I still haven't figured out how to break this whole time loop. But at least I was able to spend a little time with my friends. I needed at least one day off so I could get back to work with a clear head.

I organized a picnic for all of us in the Cherry Biome. At first, the guys thought it was weird, since it really reminded them of that lava prank when I was… a little out of it because of my popularity on YouTube (I still feel guilty about everything that happened). And considering that I’m often on my phone from the very start of the day (keeping this daily log and searching the internet for information I need), it’s kind of no surprise that they had that suspicion. But luckily, I managed to convince them that this was just a regular picnic, without any cruel pranks. It’s been quite a while since I’ve really hung out with them. I missed them a lot.

It was really nice to spend time with them outdoors. This break really refreshed me, and I’m ready for new achievements.

Time to get back to work.

Day 34

I’ve been stuck in this damn loop for a month now, and I haven’t even taken a single step toward ending this nightmare. All I’ve done is study all kinds of scientific nonsense, hoping to find answers in it, but all I’ve gotten are ideas, formulas, and theories—nothing that could actually be put into practice. I feel like giving up, but I can’t just do that. I still believe I can break out of this time loop and get back to my normal life. I just need to try harder—for myself and my loved ones.

Day 40

I’ve decided to try putting theory into practice instead. Even though it’s pretty silly, I’m trying to build a machine out of redstone and other materials that can break this cycle. With my new knowledge, I think I’ll be able to succeed. So far, a few tests have failed, but I’m confident this time will yield at least some results.
Let's see how this turns out.

Day 41

Damn, damn, damn!

I went too far adjusting the energy, and the machine's temperature shot up, and… And…

Everything blew up.

I don’t know if the explosion affected anyone else, but…

God, I hope not—I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. This machine was just supposed to interrupt the cycle…

No, no, I need to try again. But this time, I’ll be more careful.

Well, at least I learned something new. If I die without a bed (I got rid of it—I don’t even remember why), I still wake up on the 20th, at exactly 9:30 a.m., as usual. So… My death doesn’t free me from the shackles of this endless day.

I don’t even know how to feel about this. Not even my death saves me. That’s just great. I’m getting really tired; I think I’m already starting to get migraines (I should ask Blue for a recipe for a pain-relieving potion—I’m sure he has one). Maybe I’ll take a couple of days off and then come back to this machine.

Day 43.

I tried to spend the entire previous day in the world of Minecraft. I wanted to spend one day alone and the next surrounded by some of the guys (I think it would be nice to hang out with Orange). I traveled through quite a few different biomes and even managed to get to the Lush Caves that Red and Orange had mentioned. I have to admit, this place is truly beautiful and even inspires me to build something incredible here (Purple and I could have a great time here, all by ourselves).

And I stayed there for so long that I didn’t even check the time on my phone—and apparently, it was already past midnight, and I passed out.

And now, here I am sitting on my bed at 9:35, writing this.

Maybe I should invite Orange to that place? I hope he’ll tell me more about his fight with Red someday.

This whole deal with the world ending in Minecraft… It was so long ago. Just wow.

Day 44.

Oh, yeah, that was a great idea. Orange and I had a great time. We didn’t make it to the Lush Caves, but it was still fun! He never did tell me the whole story about the fight, but we chatted about other things instead.

I love that guy. If it weren’t for him, the world beyond our house would never have opened up to me and the others. We wouldn’t have had these adventures, and we wouldn’t have discovered our various talents. (And I wouldn’t have been able to meet Purple.)

I shared this with Orange then and thanked him for coming into our lives. I thanked him for saving our butts despite our recklessness. I thanked him for forgiving me for that stupid prank and for the fact that I traded my friends for a YouTube channel (how is that even possible? I still haven’t forgiven myself, but he did it so easily).

It’s no surprise that Orange found it strange that I just suddenly started opening up like that. Over all these days, I’ve felt my loneliness very keenly, and I just needed to be sure that I really wasn’t alone. Even if the day repeats itself, over and over again. Even if I’m already slowly losing my mind. Sooner or later, it will all end. I don’t really know how exactly it will end, though.

Day 45.

It’s already nighttime; it’ll be midnight soon. I’m sitting on the floor next to a pile of scrap metal that I destroyed myself. I’m sitting here eating the pancakes Blue gave me to help me feel better. Thanks to him.

I failed again. I wanted to try starting this machine at night instead of during the day, and this time, I did everything right, just as I’d originally planned. But nothing worked out. The machine just stalled. I tried adjusting the engine power, checked the temperature, but nothing helped. And after that, I don’t really remember what happened. Maybe I had a meltdown? I just destroyed what I’d been working on and testing for several days. No surprise there—it was silly to think that some machine based on redstone could actually do anything. I was just wasting all my time.

Blue heard me. I’d long since learned that at this time of day, Blue would be bustling about on his floor, trying out new potion and dish recipes, so I wasn’t surprised to see him. He, on the other hand, was shocked by my state. He walked over to me as I sat on my knees, pickaxe in hand, and crouched down beside me. We sat in silence for a while as I tried to pull myself together after what had happened. Blue was still there; he put his arm around me gently, but he remained silent. I hugged him back, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t trying not to cry. I’d never felt so pathetic and helpless before. We talked a little; I even hinted a bit that I was living in an endless day with no end in sight. Of course, Blue didn't understand me. No one will understand—no one can understand—the hell I'm living through right now. But Blue still tried to cheer me up and even left me a plate of pancakes. He also tried to get me to go back inside, but I refused. I wanted to be alone.

It’s 11:57 p.m. Soon I’ll pass out again, and the day will start all over. Again.

What should I do?

Day 50.

I haven’t been as productive these past few days as I used to be. Although I’ve gone back to searching for information online, it’s mostly just a repetition of what I already know.

And everyone is getting even more worried about me. Even though my body doesn’t change with every cycle, my mental state says otherwise. And I think my friends can tell that I’m not myself. I try to tell them everything’s fine, but screw it, I don’t even believe what I’m saying myself. I really am not okay. Strange thoughts sometimes creep into my head, and I desperately try to control them (I’ll strangle Red someday). Sometimes just plain idiotic thoughts pop into my head (I wonder if the thing is still there? That creature I locked up). Sometimes they’re way too cruel. My migraines have come back, but thanks to Blue’s potions, I can live with it.

Life hasn’t changed, but I’ll keep trying.

Day 51.

While I was back online going over everything related to time loops, I learned that this term has another name: Groundhog Day. It means a boring, monotonous daily life, being stuck in a rut where every new day repeats itself. Which is very similar to my situation, except in this case, my life isn’t a metaphor.

The most interesting thing is that I found out the metaphor itself didn’t just appear out of nowhere. The phrase became a household term after the release of the movie of the same name in 1993. After reading a brief synopsis—I won’t lie—I actually got interested and wouldn’t even mind watching the movie.

But I don’t really feel like watching something new all by myself… I think it’s worth trying to organize a movie night with the guys. I wish Purple could join us.

Day 52.

I passed out yesterday after the movie ended and woke up again in my bed at 9:30. And once again, Red burst into my floor to call me for breakfast. Seriously, next time I’m just going to shut the door in his face. He’s driving me crazy with all that yelling—my migraines have started up again anyway. It’s a shame I won’t have any pain-relieving potions left in my room during the next cycle.

I actually liked the movie, by the way. The main character’s whole situation really struck a chord with me. Then again, that’s not surprising, given my own situation. Yellow and Orange were even discussing during the movie what they themselves would do if they found themselves in a similar situation. God forbid they end up in the same nightmare as me. They don’t need to go through the same suffering I did. Seriously.

By the way, after a few loops in the movie, the main character realizes that his actions have no consequences, so he starts doing whatever pops into his head. He gets drunk, binges on sweets, flirts with a girl, and even commits a robbery! To be honest, this got me thinking… After all, my actions won’t have any consequences the next day. I can do whatever I want.

No, that doesn’t mean I’m going to start hurting my friends—not for anything in the world. But i really should give it a try.

Day 53.

I didn't think I could do it, but damn it, I did! I blew up a couple of sticks of TNT near Alan’s PC setup, and that opened up the same tunnel the guys and I went through when we were following that black stranger (I think his name is Chosen, if I remember correctly)! We got into some serious trouble back then (I’ll never forget that red bastard).

I’m standing right now near that barn where Yellow was able to summon Alan to the battlefield, and I’m writing all this down. I don’t know yet what I plan to do here, but while I was falling, I saw a city in the distance. I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start exploring there.

My friends might have thought my actions were too rash. After all, I basically just woke up, grabbed some dynamite, went to the PC settings, blew it up, and jumped in there without a second thought. I wouldn’t mind exploring this world with company, but I don’t think the others would go for it. Knowing Orange, he’d definitely be against this idea. So, today I’ll be on my own again. Will they follow me, or will they be too scared to even jump into that tunnel? I don’t even know. But I just hope I can find something here that will solve my problem.

Day 60.

I’ve spent the last 7 days just exploring this new world, and it’s not only exciting but also educational!

What I can say for sure is that this world is enormous. It seems to me that even with my endless supply of time, I’ll hardly be able to get to know this new place thoroughly. But at the very least, I’ll definitely be able to explore some of the surrounding areas. The city is quite huge, and I’ll need even more days to explore it thoroughly. I already know what I’m going to do.

Oh, one more thing. I have a YouTube channel, and it’s pretty popular. Um, yeah… That’s the problem. Around day 55 (or was it 56? I don’t remember), I decided to take a walk through the city instead of the suburbs, and a lot—a LOT—of people recognized me. People would come up to me, ask if I was the real Greenzilla, sometimes ask to take a picture with me, sometimes ask for an autograph. Honestly, I didn’t feel great getting that much attention from strangers. Maybe if I were still running the channel (and still being the same jerk to my loved ones), I probably wouldn’t have minded it. But I wasn’t in the mood for that at the moment. I tried to get away from people, but a crowd was literally following me, and all those eyes just distracted me even more. Oh, and the shortest, most annoying one distracted me the most. And no, I’m not talking about a kid—I’m literally talking about a guy about my age, just pretty short. His name was Mimik, I think? And, goddamn it, he was especially pushy. He quoted some of my lines from my videos, said he was one of the commenters who wrote that I should eat grass, and worst of all, he said his favorite video was the prank one. The video I hate the most. And that little guy was really getting on my nerves at that moment. Honestly, the whole day was awful. My friends finally found me, sometime closer to midnight. They found me with that crowd behind me and that particularly aggressive fan. Orange tried to find out from me why I’d run away from the PC without explaining anything, but I was already short on time—the next cycle was about to start—and on top of that, that little weirdo Mimic started spouting complete nonsense, saying that I didn’t need my friends anymore and that’s why I’d run away from them. I really wanted to punch him right then. Red eventually shut that idiot up and waited for me to explain myself. But I couldn’t even say anything to them. After all, I passed out again and woke up in my bed, at home, in Alan’s PC. What a terrible day. From that moment on, I decided to wear a cloak made from the wool rugs in my room so no one would recognize me in town. And it actually worked—ever since then, I’ve been making the cloak every morning, grabbing some dynamite, going to my PC’s settings, and heading off to a new world.

Anyway, that’s how it’s been so far. The rest of the days were calmer, and I was able to explore this world with peace of mind. Although sometimes, out of the corner of my eye, I’d see my friends looking for me in every possible way. I feel terrible that I never really told them what I’ve been going through. Before this, I’d only hinted at it, but they never quite understood me. «Everything will be different starting tomorrow,» they tell me. BUT I’LL NEVER HAVE A TOMORROW IF I DON’T GET OUT OF THIS LOOP. AND IF I TELL THEM STRAIGHT OUT WHAT’S GOING ON, THEY WON’T BELIEVE ME. They’ll just say it’s a really funny joke or some other nonsense.

That’s exactly what will happen. I know them very well.

I was so focused on my phone that I accidentally bumped into a man and dropped his things. He gave me such a scowl that I started apologizing and quickly gathered up his scattered purple sheets of paper and handed them to him. The man just sighed and handed me my phone, which I’d also dropped. I thanked him and just walked away quickly. (I swear, I think I heard King’s voice next to that man. Maybe I was imagining things.)

I lost my train of thought. Oh well, I can’t give up anyway. If I managed to get to this place, then that means I’ll be able to come up with something new—something that will get me out of this hell.

Day 65.

I’ve decided to resume my attempt to build a machine that breaks the time loop. My first version was either very unstable—it would just explode—or too weak because I used redstone. But there are so many different kinds of technologies in this world. I’m particularly interested in Rocket’s technologies. During one of my short trips, I found a building with a rocket emblem—it seems to be the company that manufactures this equipment. I want to sneak in there sometime and see if I can find anything to use for building my machine. But definitely not today; I don’t feel ready to face the security guards just yet.

I met Orange again. He found me closer to the city and ran up to me, bombarding me with questions. He was trying to find out what had happened, why I’d run off so suddenly. But I still don’t know if I should tell my friends that for the last 65 days (or 66? I don’t know—I’m not good at math) I’ve been living in an endless single day. They won’t believe me; I’ll still be alone, even if I’m with them.

Oh, I don’t think this makes any sense. It’s 11:57 p.m. In three minutes, it’ll all happen again.

Someone help me.

Day 68.

I’ve rarely mentioned Purple because on this day, June 20, he was very busy. To be more precise, he usually spends this day with his mother. Well, more specifically, he visits her grave and places flowers there. I’ve always kept this in mind, so I tried not to bother him too much—only toward the end of the day, if I needed his advice. So, here’s the thing:

I ran into him accidentally today.

I was walking near the cemetery, still on my phone, when I heard him call out to me. I was surprised that he recognized me in my “disguise” (after all, even my most devoted fans didn’t recognize me). Purple tried to find out how I ended up here and why I hadn’t told him about it. I barely managed to come up with some silly excuse, but I don’t think Purple believed me. However, according to him, he was still very happy to see me. He took me by the hand and led me to his favorite cafe.

And now I’m sitting here, writing this and waiting for our order. I think I’m taking the day off today, even though I hadn’t planned to. I used to take days off sometimes and spend them with my friends, but after my successful escape from Alan’s PC, I completely forgot about that.

I need to make up for it.

Day 69

I spent the entire previous cycle with Purple alone. It was the best day of my life. We walked, chatted, and laughed. He showed me so many cool places (this might come in handy for my search), and I even stayed over at his place. Purple tried a few more times to take off my makeshift cloak, but I wouldn’t let him. I really didn’t want to be recognized on the street again—thanks, that was a terrible experience

Being a guest at Purple’s place—outside the world of Minecraft—is truly something special. Even though there was a slight sense of abandonment, I still felt like a welcome guest there. As evening fell, Purple and I sat in his bedroom and talked about everything under the sun. I felt so comfortable around him. I really am a fool for not having taken a break since I discovered this world.

In addition to the other benefits from yesterday’s run, I also learned about some fairly inexpensive painkillers that worked really well for my migraines (they’ve only gotten worse since then). I have money left over from the ads on my YouTube channel. I also learned a little more about a tech company called Rocket. Purple didn’t actually say much about this company, but that’s enough for me. I’m not going to give up on the idea of building a machine that breaks the time loop, so I know what I’ll be working on. I’ll borrow some of this company’s technology.

I barely managed to find the building last time—I stumbled upon it by accident. There’s a lot of security, cameras, and other stuff that could track me down. But I’m Green—I’ve dealt with worse.

I’ll handle it.

Day 71

Damn, they caught me and locked me up. I managed to hide my phone well, so they didn’t notice I had it. And now I’m just sitting here writing down my thoughts.

I found quite a few interesting devices and mechanisms that could be perfect for my machine.

But here’s the problem. This company is very well protected. I immediately fell into the clutches of a group of four stickmen. They’re pretty tough opponents, and I slightly miscalculated that, being alone, I’d lose right away.

I’d gladly call one of my friends to help me. Probably.
But they’d think it’s a strange idea. Why rob Rocket? Why do I need these devices? They’d ask too many questions. And if I tried to explain what and how,

It wouldn’t work. I’ll have to do everything on my own. I’ll try my best to make sure everything works out.

Day 76

Shit, shit, shit. The security at this Rocket CO is something else, that’s for sure. They spotted me right away and three of them attacked me, but I somehow managed to hide. I’m in the ventilation shaft right now, trying not to move too much so they don’t find me. That lady from the Stone Age has way too good of hearing.
I think she can hear me clicking away on

Day 82.

I hate it. I just hate it.
I need to try harder to get out of this damn loop.
If I have to steal valuable equipment from a huge, multimillion-dollar company to achieve my goal, I’ll do it.
Nothing and no one will stop me. Not my friends, not Alan, not Purple, not this weird company.
I’m stuck in this loop anyway, so I might as well keep trying over and over.
Over and over.
Over and over.

Day 87.

I’m already starting to almost instantly predict the moves of this stupid foursome, but I still lose.
It’s infuriating.
It’s incredibly infuriating.

Red, you’re really getting on my nerves with all that knocking on my door. My head already hurts, and now you’re making even more noise.

Who the fuck does he think he is? Think he’s better than me? Me? I memorize every single thing he says. I memorize every move my opponents make and use it against them. I have the chance to correct my mistakes right away and not repeat them. That’s where I’m better.

I’m going to finish him off anyway.

Day 94.

If someone had told me back then that I’d spend a whole day stuck in a loop, I would’ve laughed.

But right now, it’s not funny at all.

Day 99.

I DID IT
I FINALLY MANAGED TO STEAL THE ROCKET EQUIPMENT AND ESCAPE FROM THEM,
THOSE BASTARDS DIDN'T CATCH ME
WHAT A RELIEF
There’s just one tiny thing left to do. Build a machine that breaks the cycle
It’ll all be over
It’ll all be over
-
I’ve finished building it. I’ve adjusted the temperature and directed the energy to the right spot.
All I have to do is pull the lever, and this nightmare will be over.
It’s 11:45 p.m.
I’m so close.
I’m ready to pray to every non-existent god, just so that the long-awaited June 21st will finally arrive.
No, to hell with prayers. It wasn’t the gods who helped me—it was only me.
I did it all on my own.
Without anyone. It’s always been that way

What the hell? I was sure I was imagining things, but I can see them approaching me from a distance… Them. Orange, Red, Blue, Yellow. Even Purple is here. Even King.
They better not dare to stop me.

Day 100.

Tomorrow never came. June 21 never came.
I’m still in the same bed, woke up at the same time.
My machine didn’t help me.
Those bastards.
They stopped me.

I… I really am terrible.
I did something unforgivable. I killed Red.
I don't remember; I don't know how it happened.
He just walked into my room to call me for breakfast, and I
I killed him.
I stabbed him with my sword over and over until he died and respawned in his room.
I must have completely lost my mind, since all I did was run into his room and try to kill him again.
Fuck, fuck, fuck—if Orange hadn't been there, I would have…
Damn it, I don't want to think about this
I’m in a sort of isolation cell—the same one they put Red in when he was messing around with the staff and the luck block.
This is where I belong.
What’s wrong with me? Why was I so cruel to my friend?
Red didn’t even do anything to me—he has no idea what I’m going through.
I tried to apologize.
But Red wasn't listening.
Fair enough.

Day 101.

I tried to apologize to Red again. He didn't understand what I was apologizing for, but he forgave me anyway—even if he doesn't know why
I feel like crap
I'm still in the loop. Although thoughts are starting to creep in about another rope that’s usually around the neck.
Hah.
It’s funny.
I won’t even be able to die properly.
I’ll just wake up anyway.
I don’t want that.
Although maybe I should try? Maybe I’ll pull it off.
At least something will work out.

Day X, 102.

If you’re reading this sort of diary in my phone’s notes, then chances are I’m already gone.
I’m sorry—I really tried. I really tried to find a way out of all this. I tried something new, hoping I could break free from this cycle.
But I always fail. I’m starting to understand now why some of you don’t like it when I succeed at something on the first try, but you don’t. I’m sorry for making you feel worse. I’m sorry for being such a terrible friend. I’m sorry for distancing myself from you so much.
I’ll leave your lives, believing that you’ll be better off without me. Maybe you just didn’t need me that much. Thank you for being with me all this time. I really love you guys, I do. I did everything for you.
And I’m ready to take this last step, too.
Love,
Green

Day… It doesn’t matter. I don’t even remember which one anyway
Nothing worked out for me
Again
I really don’t know what to do next
I’m stuck in this endless day that will never end
This is my punishment
For everything I’ve done

Nothing happened.

Nothing happened.

Nothing happened.
