Work Text:
Robby has two moods when drunk, funny or sad. He'd long drunk past the funny stage. If it was anyone else Dana would not have dragged herself out of bed in the middle of night to come get them.
“Why did you let him get in this state?” Dana huffed, helping to keep him upright while trying to get him to her car. At least unlike the last time he got into this state he wasn't trying to lie in the road.
“He doesn't like to listen,” Jack slurred, looking at the ground. He was in a better state than Robby but not by much.
The urge to tell her he wasn't responsible for Robby gets pushed away by Dana's glare. Because somewhere in their friendship Dana had decided that when she wasn't around, he was.
“I'm gonna be sick,” Robby warned, before emptying his stomach all over Dana's shoes. Instead of turning her glare towards Robby, it was still very much focused on Jack.
As if he was the one who just vomited up tequila, vodka and beer over her. “He ordered the tequila, not me. Even though he gets sick, every time he drinks it.”Jack protested.
“You could have made sure he ate,” Dana muttered, rubbing Robby back. Dana would never admit it but where Robby was concerned she had blind spot to any of his screw ups.
Robby getting himself in this state? Jack's fault.
Robby’s relationship ending? It was his partner's fault.
If something happened at work and the worst parts of Robby’s personality came out, she'd excuse and justify it until everyone around her did the same.
“Why am I on the floor?” Jack complained, rubbing the stump where his leg used to be, watching her lay down beside Robby on the bed.
After his “Everyone leaves me,” rant on the drive home, Robby seemed to have settled down the moment his body hit the bed.
“Because I'm not having my daughters wake up to find you hungover on the sofa,” Dana said between a yawn. Robby half drunk, half asleep pressed a palm of a kiss to her hand. A gesture Dana seemed unfazed by, almost if it was something he did everyday. For all Jack knew he might. “I am sure as hell not sleeping on the floor or next to you.”
“But you'll share with Robby,” Jack muttered underneath his breath. He knew Dana heard it when reached down and slapped him on the shoulder. “I mean you could have gone back to bed to Benji but whatever.”
“Not really. Robby in this state only settles when I sleep beside him and Benji won't have him in our bed after last time,” Dana explained, leaving Jack with more questions that he knew wouldn't get answered if he asked.
