Work Text:

“I can’t do it…” Haru pouts, holding his hands together as Keigo buttoned up the small school shirt.

“Do what?” Keigo asked looking up from his squatting position eyes level at the five year old.

“Kindergarten… I'm not ready…” He admits looking down at his socks, so he doesn’t have to look at his dad.

“You did real good in pre-kindergarten.”

“… that’s different…”

Keigo purses his lips trying to look at Haru’s eyes, he was currently hiding under his white hair he inherited from Touya. Moving his hand up to push the bangs away, peeking under to make eye contact with those matching his own. “Will you tell me why?”

“…I'm shy.” He guiltily admits.

“That’s not true. You can be the loudest in the house- your grandmother Rei can assure you, that you’re energetic and have a lot to say.” Keigo tries assure, since Touya and him have been working more Rei, after returning home from being released out of the hospital years ago. Had seemed more happy to always have Haru around, she’s been babysitting him the most out of any other family members.

“That’s different, she’s quiet.”

“Ahah… yeah, she can be.” Haru nods, smiling, hearing his dad agree with him.

“School uniform fits?” Touya walked over to Haru’s bedroom door checking in, seeing the five year old in a yellow button up shirt and black shorts.

“Yeah it’s good, he’s nervous though.”

“No I’m not!” Haru lies pouting at Keigo, who started to unbutton the uniform to redress him in his comfortable clothing meant for home..

“Oh? Is someone lying to me?” Touya asked tapping his chin looking between his husband and son.

“I’m not!” Haru exclaims again pressing his foot down hard as Keigo helped him step into his regular shorts he wore around the house.

“So you’re ready for kindergarten?” Touya asked tiling his head leaning against the doorframe.

“Y-yes!” Haru faltered but didn’t want to seem like he was scared in front of his dad.

“Mhm…. Okay, you’re all good for now. You can watch tv for a bit, if you want screen time-.” Haru had dashed past his dads legs running to the living room, leaving Touya to look back at Keigo folding their kids clothes. “He’s scared?”

“He seemed nervous about going into kindergarten, I asked him why and he said he was shy.” The blonde answered while placing the clothes in the dresser where other pairs of matching, shirts and shorts were held for the school year.

“Ahh… yeah… he doesn’t have anyone to play with besides the other kids who were in pre kindergarten with him.” Touya says aloud, walking over to sit on Haru’s bed hearing the squeak due to him not being child sized. Haru not having anyone to play with from 1 to 3 years old was a concern that always got brought up between the two. Touya always had his siblings, Keigo… well, once he was separated from his parents and ended up getting acquainted with other kids he became a bit social. “Why couldn’t he tell me?”

“Tell you he’s shy?”

“Yes.”

“Told you, he’s more open with me.” Keigo jokes reaching over to squeeze his husband’s side, taking a seat on the small bed next to him.

“Ugh- I still don’t believe that. He talks to me.” Touya retorts pushing Keigo’s wandering hands away. “He always came to me.”

“Well, he’s changing now…. 5 years old, not by much. But he’s starting to change a little, he doesn’t want you to think he’s small or can’t handle it.” Keigo brushes Touya’s leg with his own seeing the blue eyes staring at the floor in thought.

“Ugh… I don’t like it…” Touya admits leaning back on his hands pursing his lips.

“Like that I’m the favorite now?”

“No-!” Touya gives him a glare still pursing his lips, leaving Keigo grinning more seeing where Haru is getting most of his mannerisms from. “It reminds me of… I did that shit when I was little.. I don’t like it.”

“That’s just kids stuff.”

“Did you do it?”

“No…” Keigo admits looking away to think about what he could remember, which wasn’t much. Whatever he’s told Touya whenever they started dating and the therapists in his childhood was all he could really remember from living in a rickety shack with his parents. “But my situation was different, his is a lot better than what both of ours was.”

Feeling Keigo nudge his knee hearing him, Touya just nods his heads sighing. “Yeah. You’re right,”

“Is this anxiety in my dear old spitfire?”

“No. I don’t know how you’re so calm about this- or if you’re actually panicking on the inside and letting it not show to help relax me.” Touya pushes himself off the child size bed that sounded like it was ready to break under both adults weight.

“Ha! I would never tell you, don’t want to worry your frail heart.”

“Ugh, get up.” Touya groaned, kicking his husband's foot lightly walking out of the bedroom. Keigo quickly catching up to him, patting his butt before wrapping his arms around his waist, causing them to waddle to the living room. Their PDA a lot of the time in front of Haru mostly looked like wrestling by the faces Touya would make at him.

“Dads, I have a question.” Haru speaks up holding an action figure in his hand on the couch as he watches his parents play.

“What’s wrong baby bird?” Keigo unraveled his arms from Touya’s waist freeing him looking over at the five year old, while Touya walked to the kitchen fridge listening.

“Why don’t I have siblings?” He asked looking at both his parents curiously. Both just froze giving a look at each other, before turning away to try and find what to say. Touya rummaging through the fridge like he needed something at the moment.

“Why do you ask, kiddo?” The blonde walked over to sit next to Haru rubbing the back of his neck.

“I don’t have any.”

“Well I didn’t have any.”

“Why?” Haru quips back and Keigo can just turn his attention to Touya to help him, seeing he was getting a todoroki negotiation.

“Haru- we just didn’t have any after you.” Touya rubs his eyes pulling one of Keigo’s canned coffees out for himself.

“Why?”

“We got busy.”

“With me?”

Touya and Keigo whipped their heads at each other, Touya opening the coffee can trying to think while Keigo looks back at their son seeing him fiddle with the superhero figure in his own hands. Moving the arm back and forth with no real intention of playing with it, as the other side of the couch sank down from Keigo’s weight. “Nooo, you do take up plenty of our time and we like that, gives us plenty to do. But you’re also just five, we’re always learning new things with you.”

Haru gives a small smile, feeling his head get a nice rub with the affirming words, before looking up at both his dads. “So can I get one now?”

“Get what?”

“A sibling.”

Touya coughs up the cold coffee he was drinking, walking to the sink running the water to clean himself. “K-Kei…”

“Yeah- sooo… ah. Haru it’s not that easy to just get a sibling.”

“Why?”

“Wow, you’ve really got your favorite word.” Keigo jokes rubbing the back of his neck, ever since the five year old started going to pre-kindergarten he had become more inquisitive. Things couldn’t just be a yes or no, he was always asking why.

“How about something else? You want a toy?” The white haired man questioned, rubbing down the counter surface he had spit coffee on in the kitchen. The change in subject seemed to have gotten Haru back on his small high horse

“No!”

“Haru, we don’t yell.”

“Why?!”

“Cause I said so.” Touya affirms with a pointed look, getting a rebellious look in return.

“Why?!”

“I said no yelling! That’s not how you ask for things, it’s also not how you talk to us-.” Haru slides off the couch with his action figure still in hand, huffing hearing Touya’s lecture go on. Starting his run to his bedroom with quick small steps, if this didn’t just escalate to a squabble it would’ve been very cute. “Haru, we’re not done.”

“Yes!” Haru pushes his bedroom door closed, leaving small sounds of movement left coming from it. Touya groans rubbing his hands over his face, his husband can only give him a sympathetic look from the living room rubbing his chin hairs.

“You two are one in the same.”

“He’s a little… he’s can be so…” Touya struggles to find the words, he loves their son and would do anything for him- kill for him.. but ohhh- he could make him soooo…!

“At least he doesn’t stomp anymore, that left you fuming.” The blonde chuckles standing up walking to the kitchen to grab a glass of water, rubbing Touya’s back as he passed him. “What do you think?”

Touya’s lips were already drinking what was left of the small coffee can, wiping the corner of his mouth looking over at Keigo who was pouring himself a drink. “About?”

“A kid.”

Touya felt his eyes squint unconsciously, he moved to rub them and sigh thinking. Haru himself was an accident, they were having unprotected sex for a while before Touya ended up with confirmation his reproductive system does indeed still fully work. Despite years post transition into his adulthood, his bodily anatomy seems to be a wonder to have conceived a kid… or Keigo was just very furtive and finally made it inside.”

“Touya?”

“Yeah?”

“I know we joked about it when he was a baby.”

“He’s still a baby.”

“Ahah… well, he is still our baby. But he’s not exactly a baby anymore, you see him try acting like a big kid in front of you.”

“Is that really why he can’t tell me things?”

“Seems like it, he doesn’t want you seeing him as a baby. Instead a big kid or even big brother to a baby if we ever end up having another. But he really does try being a big tough kid in front of you.” Keigo picks his glass up, taking a drink from it, seeing a look of concentration on his face.

“I don’t even know if it can happen again, that was by accident… we weren’t using protection before that.” Touya leans against the counter crossing his arms. “I hated being pregnant… it was weird… it made me feel weird and awful.” He admits, he was prone to getting sick and as much as he adores their little one now… seeing your body go from masculine to a bump… a bit terrifying.

“You look like you never had him.”

Touya lets out a laugh hearing that, because he really didn’t. The way his body worked he just couldn’t hold onto that extra weight, whatever was left turned into muscle. On the contrary Keigo was stress and emotional eating just as much as him, but had to work out even more to try and get back to a shape he wanted to be. “Wouldn’t it be weird?”

“What part?”

“The part where… he sees one dad start growing a big stomach. We’ve never told him who had him- or that we even had him.”

“Ah… that can be… a hard conversation to have… it’s okay if you’re against the idea. I can tell him-.”

“I didn’t say I was.”

“The way you’ve been talking about it, I just assumed.” Keigo dips his head to get a good look at his husbands face and what he’s thinking, because he’s surprising him after years of marriage and a surprise kid right now.

“I know my family is… was very messed up as a kid… but we had each other… despite us all going at each other at times…” Touya thinks aloud tapping his bicep with his finger. “…maybe it wouldn’t be… terrible for Haru to have a sibling. It’s a bit of an age gap, not as much as Shoto and I but…”

“It would be like Natsuo and you, you and him ended up being the closest too.” Keigo teases pushing his side against Touya’s who let out a breathy laugh shaking his head.

“Okay… so- are we agreeing to this?”

“I don’t mind another.”

“But do you want another?” Touya emphasizes looking at his face, pushing himself off the kitchen counter.

“Touya, if I could have a whole little egg batch with you I would.”

“Don’t be gross, you’re not a chicken.” Touya sneered at him with a disgusted face.

“There’s going to be a very fun part.”

“I know.”

“Do we tell him?” Keigo asked grinning but feeling a small flutter of anxiety at the idea of trying to explain something like having a baby to Haru. Touya seemed just as conflicted and wasn’t shy to express it shaking his head.

“No, not yet. He wouldn’t get it and just in case it doesn’t go through.”

“You don’t think you could?”

“I have my doubts, it’s been a long time. I should check in with my primary and find out, I know we occasionally don’t use protection.. but maybe you should get seen too?”

“Having doubt in my fertility? That’s the meanest thing you’ve ever said to me.” The blonde feigns hurt, placing his hand over his heart. “I’ll give you as many as you need.”

“Ew- you’ve got a perverted mind.”

“I don’t get the chance too anymore, it’s peeking its naughty lil head out right now.” Keigo moves over to wrap his arms around Touya’s torso ghosting his hands over his chest down to his stomach.

“You know we aren’t doing this right now, right?”

“I know.. in our free days I could’ve had you on the counter right now…” Keigo rubs his forehead against the back of the others neck, still moving his hands up and down. He vaguely remembers the last time they had kitchen sex years ago, true to memory it involved Touya on the counter and them sweating heavily.

“The counter would be cold.”

“Not for long.”

“Hmm.” Touya himself runs his hands over Keigo’s and back up his forearms, they probably had less stamina and strength than they did back then. But they could make up for it in enthusiasm and the pleasure of actually having unprotected sex regularly again.

The quiet turn of the knob and creaking door opening caused them both to still looking over from the kitchen to the hall where Haru’s room was. Seeing the bedroom door agape with a short and small face looking through the sliver of opening.

“Are you mad at me…?”

“Huh? Me? No, I’m not.” Touya answers moving his hands off his husbands arms stepping over to the end of the kitchen, to get a closer look at Haru’s face. He didn’t need to walk much further as his door had swung open, he started running to Touya. Smothering his face in the pants leg of his dad hugging him, wiping his face.

“I’m sorry I yelled…. I was mad…” Haru apologized, puffing his cheeks up hugging his dads legs hoping it’ll get him from teary eyed again.

“That’s okay.” Touya bent down sliding his hands under Haru’s armpit raising him up to hold, he let out a huff in the process but for now he could still pick him up.

“I was getting upset too, but that’s why we don’t yell. It just makes us more upset and can make us say things we don’t mean.” The white haired man explained, feeling Haru lean his head against him nodding in agreement. Keigo reached over, pulling at the small flushed cheek of the five year old, getting a whine and small hand slapping him in return.

“We talked. We know you get lonely and that’s okay… we’re going to try something for a while. But we can’t tell you what it is yet.”

“A surprise?” Haru’s face perked up looking between both his parents.

“You can say that, it’ll be surprising for all of us.”

“But for me?”

“You can say that.”

“A toy?”

Keigo stared at the matching gold eyes for a bit before laughing at him getting another whine at his dad slapping his hands at him. Touya sighs walking over to the sofa to set the ready to fight Haru down, taking a seat next to him.

“I think there’s something else you’d like for now, while we set the other thing up.” Touya crosses his legs on the couch leaning back, wondering if Keigo even remembered.

“What?” Both set of eyes on him wondering what he was going to bring up next.

“Your dad and I talked about a cat for the longest time when you were a baby.”

Oh…

No…

Keigo thought, covering his mouth so Haru couldn’t see how he was reacting, while the blonde was left internally conflicted. Haru had a grin on his face looking between the two, sitting up on his knees ready to stand and jump on the couch. Sensing this, Touya placed his hand on his shoulder so he couldn’t jump.

“Yes. But you need to be good too, cats like having their own space and being treated right. We can find a kitten that’ll have as many naps and play times as you.” Haru puffed his cheeks up again at his dad, fighting the hand on his shoulder standing up on the couch, in an unbalanced stance that could show his dominance.

“I don’t need naps anymore.”

“Haru…” Touya warns as the five year old looks between his parents and slowly sits back down on the couch crossing his legs like his dad. “You have to be good, cats are like people, if you’re mean or do anything bad they won’t like being around you.”

Haru nodded understanding. “I’ll be good.”

Keigo walks over ruffling Haru’s hair getting the five year old to look up at him. “We’ll look into animal shelters and see if there’s any you’d like.”

“Thank you!” Haru’s eyes lit up as he jumped off the couch hugging the blonde, with that he ran off in his room leaving the door open as he played. Keigo taking Haru’s spot on the sofa next to Touya, leaning his head against the cushion.

“You know I forgot about that.”

“No… you should’ve known, we agreed to it a long time ago.” Touya shrugs a bit smug, it was a random post sex conversation, years ago when Haru was a baby. “You know I’m a cat person.”

“Yes… as much as I love you… you know cats don’t like me.”

“That’s a lie you keep telling yourself.” Touya moved his legs over to lay them across Keigo’s, getting some appropriate physical contact. The blonde moves his hand to run his hand up and down Touya’s leg from the knee to the calf, while resting his head against the palm of his other against the cushion.

“You can take Haru to the animal shelter, you have more of a choice over him on what cat we get. Make sure you’ll get a kitten that doesn’t have anything against you, even though… it’s a kitten and it can’t.” Keigo feels the cerulean eyes on him, watching his hands and his facial expressions reading him. The blonde keeps moving his hand up and down his husband's leg, thumbing his ankle when he brushes past it.

“I’m not that upset… I’d prefer a baby over a cat.” That gets Touya pushing his foot against his partners side, pursing his lips. “Ahh! Ok! Ok! We work on getting that started while we get a cat!”

Touya moved his foot back over Keigo’s leg resting it, his husband moving the legs aside to start crawling over him. “You have plenty of time and opportunities coming to make it up to me.”
