Work Text:

Chairs screeched as Wemmbu stood up from his position; taking his bag along with him.

The afternoon sunlight beamed through the large windows of the classroom — signaling that it might get quite dark early today. Not that he cared, of course.

If Wemmbu thought hard enough, he could still hear the chalkboard screech that one unbearable sound he couldn’t stand hearing at all. It was truly the pain of his existence.

Flame was beside his figure on the other side of the classroom, taking his belongings and fixing his chair and table to make sure their teacher wouldn’t notice the random drawing scraped on it for entertainment.

Both were standing there in silence; nobody refused to talk to one another and it seemed like none of them were in the modd to talk in the first place, anyways.

This type of comfortable silence was one of the things Wemmbu cherished — especially when the weather decided to do his ideal picture. It was all a coincidence, yet it felt calming.

Few amounts of students were outside the classroom in the hallways, yelling and laughing and smiling like the sun won’t come down in just 1 and 1/2 of an hour. It was sad on how stupid they were — but people will be people.

Lights flickered from time to time like it was practically beyond repair, only a few amounts of duck tape holding it in at this point in it’s lifespan.

Flame’s voice broke the silence, initially making Wemmbu flinch at the sudden sound. Wemmbu turned his head to what Flame was doing, and looked away again.

”You’re coming with me for the night.”

Wemmbu’s eyes widen in slight shock, confused at this fatass’ remark.

”..I’m not.” His tone clear and monotone, clearly speaking by itself.

”You are.” Flame defies Wemmbu’s rejection to the offer, if he could ask for millions of times just to make Wemmbu say yes and come with him — he will.

This entire day has been filled with Flame noticing too many things that are strangely new to Wemmbu’s behavior, why not make extra precautions so he won’t guess what he thinks will happen to Wemmbu because he’s being too paranoid and scaredy and shit?

What a great thing to do.

Maybe.

Wemmbu analyzed Flame’s appearance, desperate to run away like the small rabbit he is — trying to run away from the predator.

Run, run, little bunny
Where are you going? Are you heading to the forest?
Run, run on your white paws
Running away, stained with dirt

Suddenly—

“HEY!”

Wemmbu stormed out of the classroom like Flash himself, pure determination in his eyes like a demon. His shoes slipped every 5 steps like a pattern — and his instincts begging him to run and hide.

Yet, he knew damn well Flame would catch up on him where he was hiding anyway. He panted quickly in shallow and deep breaths, desperate to run away with still enough stamina.

Flame ran for his life without an end, desperate to catch Wemmbu and try to stop him from atleast going outside of the building. His eyes wide open, scanning his sorroundings with the speed of a cheetah on a treadmill. Unlike the wild Wemmbu he was chasing — he was much more athletic with his increased stamina and strength.

Lomedy was seen in the halls, arranging the things in his folder calmly. The sound of panting and shoes slipping on the tiled floor caught his attention, only to see Flame running with incredible speed and Wemmbu just trying not to slip and fall and bang his head on the floor just like last time.

“Hey-“

”FLAME!” Lomedy yelled, completely confused in what was happening before his eyes. Was it fascinating? Was it funny? Was it cool? He can’t even tell at all.

Everyone’s eyes catched onto what was happening, and took a moment to look at the panicked and shocked faces of the two running and clinging onto dear life.

“GO WEMMBU! GO!” Spoke’s voice heard from afar, his enthusiastic cheering echoing amongst the hallways like a large gong being played.

That small amount of motivation made Wemmbu crack and stop for a quarter of a second, but quickly returning to his calm composure — maybe even better.

”IF YOU WANT HIM TO DIE I GUESS.” Flame yelled back with seriousness and a hint of concern on his tone.

”..oh.”

“..my bad.” Spoke’s once happy and cheerful tone deducted to such.

Finally, Wemmbu managed to get outside after going down 3 extremely long hallways and 4 sets of stairs. His face having a small evident smile like freedom had finally met him.

But the war had just began. His head turned to see that Flame ALSO ran faster, and was catching up to him fast.

Well, this will be an unescapable issue!

..hopefully not at all.

“W-“

Mane appeared.

What a strange day wasn’t it?

Wait, wasn’t he supposed to be at a university across the country?

Flame’s tracks stopped, his face widening in slight confusion once he saw a tall Manepear with a concerned expression on his strange face.

“Care to explain WHY are you only know going home?” Mane’s voice filled with skepticism, trying to find answers to all his questions.

To be honest, he only did this since he cared for Flame with all of his might, constantly asking if he was okay or hurt at times. Especially dodgeball class.

The collar of Flames jacket being tightly held by Mane, not with malicious intent — but to only restrain him properly without hurting him.

”I’m trying to save a life, so without further ado — let me g-“ Flame was practically dragged to the car like a ragdoll, yet his senses received no feeling of pain at all.

”You can get that boy— or your boyfriend or whatever later. I know losing him may hurt, but it’s been practically atleast two hours and our house is down right before a highway.”

”And, I don’t want you being missing the next day.” Mane looked sympathetic, trying to restrain himself from just punching Flame. He was always protective of the boy, often creating fights when Flame was provoked when they were younger. Actually, elementary school younger.

But now — Flame was in his senior year in highschool. Mane was in his 2nd year of college, only returning because of semester breaks.

Of course, Flame can make his own decisions now. Whether it may affect him positively or negatively, it’s still his very own choice; not anyone else’s — just him.

Mane shut the door with a loud thud, asking himself if this was the greatest decision to make. After all, he just appeared out of nowhere with no actual meaning in the first place.

Originally, they were expecting Mane to go to their house once semester break hit — but they must have forgotten. Hence why Flame was so surprised.

Keys jingled as the car moved quickly, beams of sunlight hitting Flame’s face like a flash. It was unexpected and random, yet pretty.

A sigh came from Flame, wondering if Wemmbu would still be alright the next day.

If he wanted to die, just do it the next next day — so he can see that silly face one more time.

That same, small song Wemmbu used to sing during random times suddenly felt much more comforting rather than annoying at this point.

Even after so, so long — he could barely figure out what song was that anyway. All he had were vivid or specific memories of Wemmbu singing it quietly.

When he was distressed or trying to cool down.

And maybe, he saw him smile slightly too.

Just . . . not with him, of course.

The large classroom was oddly silent; only the sounds of students wincing at the fact they were doing something wretched to a poor frog.

And that was new to their highschool.

Nobody was silent at all. Unless something truly happened.

Others held shaky breaths, seemingly looking for comfort amongst the strange abomination or ‘creature’ infront of them that they had disassembled by themselves.

Were they overreacting? Probably. But everything else would be better rather than whatever was happening infront of their eyes currently.

Just . . .

Probably.

A man with purple hair beside him was humming a strange tone, it felt melancholic or solemn with a slight amount of emotion that he could barely describe.

Honestly, he didn’t know if the song was just really beautiful and well-made or he’s just random liking or admiring Wemmbu’s surprisingly pretty voice.

Probably even both. Considering the fact Wemmbu naturally had a really pretty face and voice apparently. Or is he just getting random intrusive thoughts or feelings again like the dumbass chud he was?

After a while, Flame seemed to get more and more distracted with the slightly loud singing. But he didn’t interfere, since he didn’t want Wemmbu to stop singing that strange tune at the same time.

But it was crucial for them to do this properly, or else their grades will lower down like Wemmbu’s mental health every singke day.

Wemmbu’s fingers moved with careful precision — like he was doing a small mini surgery and if he didn’t just explore a poor frog’s intestines just atleast 15 minutes ago. His pale complexion holding a deep contrast with his tools and the frog, it was noticeable but nobody decided to try to talk about it.

Only the small, shallow breaths they shared were loud enough to hear — except for Wemmbu’s strange annoying tune that Flame couldn’t stop strangely.

This was their very last period, so only just slightly more pain and everyone could be set free from this hell they call an educating building.

The intriguing silence was unnerving, yet the only comfort they could feel.

Even after everything, they could still hear the distressed voice their Biology teacher had when she said that sneaking chemicals in the intestines were forbidden.

Yet no sound came — just Wemmbu’s small voice echoing.

Maybe Flame was getting just a bit annoyed.

”Could you stop that?” Flame questioned, his tone shifting to slight annoyance.

”Why? Is it bad?” Wemmbu replied — and he couldn’t find a reason why humming a tone is now apparently illegal according to the great FlameFrags.

But Wemmbu didn’t stop the slight humming, and only made it increasingly louder every now and then to annoy the already irritated man beside him.

A smirk was etched on Wemmbu’s face, he was satisfied on what he doing to the other person. All of that glitters stopped when Flame threw a graduated cylinder on his face; shattering it and leaving Wemmbu slight harmed.

Wemmbu quickly followed with his lab goggles bring thrown around like a random toy, as a small cut with red appeared on his cheek — it stung like a bee, yet it was just a small scratch.

Others had stealed annoyed glances at them — the sudden disturbance annoying everyone.

And that issue quickly escalated to everyone in the room irritated with them as they fight verbally and physically like a battle of the fittest.

”BOYS!”

Both looked to the teacher infront of them.

Oh shit.

Suddenly, Flame burst out of his bubble once Mane had finally turned off the car. He stood up from his position and left Mane while he was still busy.

It was beginning to darken even more — as skies seemed much more like a dark blue rather than morning sunlight. After all, it was around 6:30 PM currently.

The door opened to see the ordinary things he always saw, his small house and welcoming silence. Of course, his mom too.

The TV was on, playing a football game or MTV again.

He greeted his mom and went to his room; the wooden stairs could be heard creating a loud noise every time Flame walked on them. He plopped down onto his bed, while he doomscrolled on his phone like a dumbass.

Even if he was still alive, he couldn’t bear the thought of Wemmbu dying.

What about those happy times?

What about those sad times?

What about the playful remarks they shared?

All of that would be left away to rot. Even if he tried to forget what happened today.
