Sixteen Tons

Summary:

In the year 1977, you've been selected as the first young woman to attend the Major's seminary. No ordinary seminary, this highly secretive academy only has one purpose. Select one winner. No one knows exactly what the Major dictates his point system on, yet every year, fifty young men are pulled from the lottery and only one can be chosen for a handsome cash prize and any wish they have granted.
You've set your mind on victory. Your plans of simply ignoring the men around you didn't go as desired.

Chapter 1: Preface

Chapter Text

Hello! Welcome to my book. I'm starting it off with a clarification and a warning. I have a lot in mind for this story, so I want to ensure readers aren't taken aback by it or the story themes. I am also newer to using AO3 to write, so if anyone has recommendations for tagging or formatting, please let me know.

This will be a reverse harem story. It will be cute and romantic and sappy and self-indulgent. It will definitely be a little cheesy at times, it's a story about seven men falling in love with the same woman.. Don't take it too seriously.

However, I've also kept the dystopian aspect in because I do want to write something more story forward. Going along with this will be a warning, this story is set in the 1970's. Misogyny will be a theme in this book. The reader is a young woman from an impoverished background in a male dominated setting. The Long Walk is a work focused solely on men, so I want to dive deeper into what a woman's life would be like in a totalitarian state such as the one described in the book. A lot of the same warnings for the movie apply as in this book. Foul language, crudity, men being icky, PTSD and poverty.

I have just recently started reading The Long Walk after watching the movie! My interpretation of the characters is solely my own analysis of them. I will construct their backgrounds and varying aspects of them where there isn't canon, I'm open to hearing silly headcanons you have for the boys that I can write into the story. I will keep the core aspects of them there obviously, but a lot of the boys don't have much mentioned aside from snippets of past/stories/etc.

This story is meant to be a fun stress relief project for me while I'm in college, so bare that in mind. I'm simply a girl who likes raggedy men and wants to write stories.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy!
