Work Text:
7:20 am.
10 minutes before shift started that day, cold wind passing through the windows.
Ron and Ratthew had gotten close over the time they'd worked together, shifting from awkward silence to comfortable banter.
It had become routine for them, even though they were at the corporation for very different goals.
Despite that, they remained close. Especially after the disappearance of Ratthew's sister.
They'd become reliant on each other in one way or another.
Ratthew needed the distraction from the weight of not being there for Rattina.
Ron needed the light that he brought into his dull office life.
Ratthew was glad to be able to bug Ron for most of their shift, and Ron--even if he'd never like to admit it--enjoyed the rat's company.
(Yes, tsundere Ron. We love Ron.)
Ron was waiting impatiently for the elevator to be running, though it was on him for arriving ten minutes early.
He could feel the breeze from outdoors, the coolness washing over his temper.
His mind drifted to all the paperwork he dealt with here.
He would have quit already, just out of rage, if Ratthew hadn't chewed through the documents he wasn't supposed to have.
Ratthew had gotten to the elevator shortly after, and greeted his friend as usual.
"Good morning, nerd." Ratthew squeaked, nudging Ron's leg. He smiled wide at the man.
"Morning, rodent." Ron welcomed in return, warmth dripping in his tone even if he wanted it to be playful.
"Do you think that the secret agent will be patrolling again? That cat likes to linger 'round us a lot." Ratthew sounded casual, but be honestly was a little scared.
If the secret agent caught him, he'd deal with a lot worse than getting kicked out and fired.
"I'm sure if he does he won't rat you out."
It was an attempt to reassure, but the naturally falt tone he had wasn't exactly soothing in the moment.
"It is kinda his job, Ron."
"Hey, dont worry about that broody cat... I'm sure I can make some sorry excuse to save your stupid ass anyway."
While his tone and wording were both playful, Ratthew could tell that Ron genuinely meant it.
Ron was just hoping that he could hide the flush crawling up his neck better than he could hide his emotions.
"Thank you. Ya know, I-"
"Oh, by the way, I heard that they fixed the coffee machine."
Ratthew took a deep breath, pushing down the words he was about to struggle saying.
He checked the time instead, letting out a high, irritated squeak seeding that only 3 minutes had gone by.
"I think you should pry less today. You know the company won't like finding you in files again."
Ron broke the brief silence, averting his gaze to the ground.
Ratthew looked at him for a moment, then blurted out.
"...Would it be bad if I asked to make out right now?"
Ron's attention snapped back to him, shocked and flustered by the sudden request.
Ratthew realized what he said, worried that Ron would be grossed out, but before he could stutter out an apology he was interrupted.
"N-no. It wouldnt. In fact... I'm more than willing to."
Ratthew was surprised by this, but he could tell Ron was just as nervous as him.
"Well, we do have seven minutes before work starts."
They found a supply closet and locked themselves in it.
Ron was still very flustered, setting his suitcase aside and adjusting his tie anxiously.
He would have made a move, maybe took a breath and looked at Ratthew again.
Took a look at that stupidly adorable face of his, damn rat.
Maybe he would have even pulled him in.
But he didn't get to decide on what to do before Ratthew's mouth was on his.
He melted immediately, showing zero sign of resistance.
Ron stumbled against the door, and Ratthew kept him there.
Ron pulled him in closer, allowing Ratthew to take lead but making it clear that he could still change that.
Ratthew pulled away for a moment, squeaking nervously for a second.
Ron gave him a very brief kiss, but didn't let it last longer than a few seconds as he watched the shorter man curiously.
Ratthew took the quick minute of pause to go straight for Ron's neck, earning a surprised gasp from the bunny.
But Ron would be lying if he said he didn't like it.
Like might have even been an understatement.
Ratthew nipped softly at his neck, even stopping to nuzzle against him.
Ron swallowed down any nervous stuttering he would have naturally reacted with, and instead checked the time.
Ratthew looked down at the watch, watching it tick while staying pressed against Ron.
"We should probably get back to the elevator."
Ratthew sighed, leaning against the bunny for another minute before stepping away from him.
Ron fixes his hair and his suit, regaining some composure.
But the adoration in each of their eyes was clear.
Ron held the closet door open for Ratthew, allowing him to exit first.
When the elevator eventually opened, Ron made sure it didn't close on Ratthew and backed into a corner once he was in.
Ratthew stood next to him, clinging to his side for a bit before pulling away.
He leaned up to kiss Ron on the cheek when the doors started opening, and Ron let him.
Neither of them had smiled wider before.
It was just a spur of the moment thing though.
It wasn't as if they were both yearning for one another.
However, they did both notice the underlying tension and emotion whenever they would occasionally hook up again.
Maybe one day one of them would just say what they both knew.
But until then, they wouldn't speak on their love for each other.
