Work Text:
It has been six months since Dove died, and Lana finds her self in the bed looking at Dove's side of the room, the fading orange lights of the end of the day are still illuminating the bed and it remains exactly the way she left it, the blankets perfectly organized like someone just did them leaving the filling that she will come back.
She can't help but laugh remembering the times that they would sit there to study for tests and Dove would tease her mercilessly for getting a basic questions wrong.
--------------‐--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun is setting and the orange and pink lights paints the room, the two girls are sitting in the bed with books and papers scattered all over it.
Dove: You know...if you keep getting distracted like this...I guess I'll just have to take the title of "Smarter Student" to myself.
Lana: I'm just making it easier for you, you know. Is not funny to be the smartest student without a challenge.
Dove: Hahaha, we both know that's not true you love being the smartest person in a room.
Lana can't help but blush at the comment but then proceeds to give Dove the middle finger as they both start laughing.
Lana: Have you thought about my invite to join the club? You can always bring your friends with you.
Dove: You know I don't have time for this, besides Thomas has been acting very weird lately, he said he wants to talk to me about something important.
Lana: Weird how?
Dove stays quiet for a second, looking at the papers to avoid eye contact
Dove: Why do things change?
Lana: Not sure I follow
Dove: Doesn't mater, come on let's get back to focus, I don't wanna risk any of us getting a "B" in math.
Lana: Hum...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lana: ... I really miss you Dove, I wonder what would have happened if I insisted on going with you that day.
Tears start to fall again as the girl lays flat on her back
Lana: I wonder if Andrew is safe with Tho-
*Tap tap tap*
Lana turns to face the window as a mysterious figure taps on it.
When she turns to see it she doesn't believe her eyes.
It was Dove at the window...smiling.
The figure was Dove, there's no doubt, the blond hair scintillate golden in the last rays of afternoon light, the school uniform was perfectly clean and she had the same calm smile that Lana missed every day.
Lana got up from the bed and slowly took a few steps back.
Dove? seemed mildly annoyed at the action and tapped on the window again.
Lana: Great, I'm hallucinating now?...fuck...
Dove makes a sign for her to open the window but Lana is to confused to do anything.
Lana: There's no way this is happening, she's gone...DOVE IS DEAD GO AWAY!
The blonde girl rest her forehead on the window and offers a soft smile.
Dove: Maybe I don't have to be.
God Lana missed that voice.
Lana: What?
Lana is fucked, her head is probably just messing with her...
She's gonne, but what if... just for tonight Lana could have her back?
Lana gets on her knees on the bed and reaches out to Dove as she stares.
The black hair girl stares at the blond with tears already falling from her face.
Lana: Are you real?
Dove moves her head to face Lana better and opens a smile.
Dove: Open the window and you'll find out.
Lana reaches for the window and unlocks it. "Fuck it!" she thought.
As Lana opens the window the blond girl steps closer adjusting her hair.
Dove: Hi.
Dove reaches for Lana and cups her cheek, while Lana is just crying.
Lana: I know that *hiccup* you're not real *hiccup* but I just miss you so much.
Dove: Come here.
Dove hugs Lana while making circles in her back.
Lana tries to be realistic, but everything just feels so real.
Maybe she doesn't want to be realistic today.
Dove: I have something important to show you.
Dove places a yellow flower in Lana's hair and steps away from the window.
Lana touches the flower, it was a real one.
Lana: Is this real?
Dove turns away and starts walking towards the fence that leads to the forest.
Dove: Come on.
Lana grabs her phone and puts her purple boots.
She jumps the window and starts following Dove.
As they're walking along the fence the girls stop at a big hole made in it, leading to the forest.
Lana:I thought the other students would wait more before starting to go there again.
Dove crosses the opening and signs for Lana to come along
The girls are now walking towards the forest side by side, and Lana starts talking again.
Lana:You know... a lot has changed since that day, some people started spreading rumors that Thomas was the one that killed you, maybe I started to believe that too, not that his reputation is helping him. But for some reason Andrew seems completely oblivious to all of that, he trusts Thomas completely.
Lana: Things have been weird... I really missed you.
Dove turns to Lana and takes her hand.
Dove: You seem to be struggling with all of this.
Lana:A little.
Lana says as she tightens the grip in Dove's hand.
Since when did Dove got dirt on her hands?
Dove: You won't have to do that anymore you know?
Lana: What?
Dove: You can come with me, I can take the suffering from you.
Lana: I-
???: COME ON YOU HAVE TO RUN IT WON'T BE STUCK FOREVER!
They are interrupted as two boys appeared running in their direction
It was Thomas and Andrew, completely covered in sweat and a bit injured.
Lana: What the hell happened to you?!
Dove seems annoyed at the intrusion and tightens her grip from Lana's hands to her wrists.
Thomas: What the fuck!? Andrew stay back!
Andrew: I don't *huf* think...Dove?! What are you guys doing here?!
Andrew: And why do you have roots on your face?!
He points at Lana
Thomas stays put in front of Andrew
Thomas: I don't think that's her Andrew.
Lana: Wha-
Lana's line of thought gets interrupted by the sound of hooves approaching and a strangled breath.
Thomas: Fuck! We have to go Andrew.
Dove: No you don't.
Vines and roots appeared from the ground trapping the boys and Lana in that place.
Andrew: STOP THIS PLEASE!
Lana tries to move but the vines only grips more tight.
She finally looks down and see that Doves legs are covered in thin vines and moss.
Lana:The fuck?
Everyone stays silent when the sound of a creature starts to approach.
A figure appears between the trees. A monster with long arms, stretched skin and sharp claws, it has its face completely covered in vines coming out of his nose, mouth and ears, and the origin of the sound It has hooves for feet.
The monster approaches "Dove?" as she turns to face it.
"Dove": You can go now, I'll take care of the rest.
Lana looks up at "Dove" crying.
Lana:It was foolish of me to think she would come back, but was that so wrong.
"Dove" steps closer to Lana and holds her face, looking into her eyes, smiling.
"Dove": What a shame, this could had gone better if you didn't found out. Such a perfect vessel.
Lana: FUCK YO- *cof* *cof*
With tears in her eyes, Lana fells something solid coming out of her mouth as she feels an unbearable pain in her chest and stomach.
Flowers, yellow flowers and blood
Andrew: LANA!
Thomas:SHIT!
"Dove":Is ok, we'll find another way.
"Dove" turns to Andrew and release the boys as Lana's body start do be completely covered in flowers.
"Dove":We aways have a way to get to you.
Lana's last moment was seeing the face of a person she loved being used to lure her into suffering, and now she was going to disappear just like her love, just like Dove, joining her in eternity on that cursed forest in search for peace.
