   Summary

   Kiriya kneels next to his father, not knowing what to do. He did not know how to be held, how to go about asking such a thing, or even what his father’s reaction would be. In previous years, it had been “Kiriya, one day in the coming years you will take over as head of the family. You will have no bed to crawl into then.”

   But, in previous years the door had been locked, the words being spoken through the wall just loud enough to reach his ears and no one else’s, and not repeated no matter how loud or how long Kiriya cried. So why now? Why was the door unlocked now?
