Summary
Once he was gone and Ryan could think a bit more clearly, he found himself taken aback by the instinct he had felt to go talk to the boy. Ryan couldn’t think of a recent time when he purposely spoke to someone he didn’t already know. He had decided a long time ago as part of protecting his heart that the friends he had now, the ones that were okay being held at arms length, who honestly were more of acquaintances, were all he needed to make it through the day, through the year, through his life in Bandee. He didn’t need more friends.
But a familiar twisting deep in his stomach told him that he was not only seeing this new boy as a potential friend.
