Talking to the moon (Trying to get to you)

Summary:

Ankarna reflects on her life with Cassandra, her wedding, while witnessing the fall of the rest of her life after

Notes:

This is like my first real fandom fic and I hope you like it. Theres some time jumping between chapters, going back and forth between the now and the wedding, so like each chapter will be a different time in her past.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Her wife was gone. Banished to a forest she could never enter. A plane she could not reach.

She was the best thing that had ever happened to Ankarna. It was an understatement to say their wedding day was the happiest day of her life.

All she could do was remember.

The wedding was beautiful.

It was never a big wedding. They were minor gods after all. She just wanted her family, and Cassandra's, to be there.

Sol had tried to convince them to have a larger wedding. It made sense, he always wanted to have a say. Be the biggest god in whatever region he came upon.

"All I'm saying is, if you want a spot on the map, you need to have something grand. Something with an impact. You don't want to be unknown, do you?" He jeered at them.

She wanted to punch him so bad. But part of a wedding is being cordial with the new in-laws. Besides, they shared part of a domain. Arguing with him would start something she couldn't fix.

Ankarna looked at her soon to be spouse, hoping they would both agree that their wedding was theirs. Not his.

Cassandra couldn't meet her gaze. They would need to talk about it later.

"Listen Sol. While Cassandra and I appreciate the input, its unnecessary right now."

"Alright, if you say so…"

"I do."

Sol huffed, apparently not used to getting his way. It reminded Ankarna of a mortal toddler throwing a hissyfit.

"Well, if we're all done here, I'm going to bed."

Ankarna walked over to her room, with Cassandra trailing behind her. Once they were alone, Ankarna couldn't keep it in anymore.

"Who does he think he is? This isn't his wedding, its ours. Not Galicaea's, not Sol's, not Ruvina's, Ours Cass. He thinks he can walk all over us and that isn't right. You and I both know that."

"An, maybe he's right. It could be a good way to keep the pantheon and our followers together. I just… I want everyone to be happy."

"And I want our wedding to be what we want, Cass. Not whatever "perfect vision" he has in store. If he wants his perfect wedding, he can go get married. His son needs some mother figure anyways."

"An, that's not fair to say, it's not Helio's fault you're unhappy with his father. That's my family. My sister and brother and my nephew. Can you blame me for appeasing them? You would do the same for your family."

"My sisters aren't as demanding as your family is."

Cassandra scoffed, going to sit on the opposite side of the room. Ankarna sat on the ground next to her, trying to hug her. Cassandra moved away from it

"Cass, I didn't mean it like that. I'm just upset. You know that. It's just… Our family dynamics are very different. My family isn't like yours and I don't know the correct way to handle it."

"It sounded like you meant it that way…"

Ankarna looked at Cassandra. They were crying. She hated it when they cried.

"Baby, I think this whole wedding thing is making us both upset. Do you want us to table it for the time being? If you want we can pick it up in the morning, once we gather our thoughts." An asked, wiping the tears off her soon to be wifes face.

"I- fine, we can talk about it tomorrow."
