Work Text:
“Sheena~”, a voice softly called for her name.
Slowly, Sheena opened her eyes when a pink haired girl popped up in front of her before giving her a big warm hug.
Sheena blinked twice.
“Mimi?” She grunted softly, with her voice noticeable still sleepy.
Seeing this, Mimi crawled under Sheena’s blanket, popping her head on the other side, smiling widely as she does so.
Sheena avoided her gaze, trying to stay composed as her cheeks turns rosy red.
“M-Mimi… y-you know I can’t stand up when you’re on top of me…” Sheena complained.
Mimi ignored her complain, instead, she slowly leaned forward.
When their lips are inches away from each other Sheena closed her eyes.
“W-Wha?!”
“Good morning, Sheena!” Mimi greeted her with a warm smile.
Still flustered from what Mimi did, Sheena covered both of them using her blanket, before pulling Mimi close to her snuggling and holding each other’s hands.
For a moment, both of their eyes locked into each other, Sheena tucked a strand of Mimi’s hair behind her ears before giving her a kiss on the forehead.
“Good morning to you too, Mimi…” Her tone was soft.
“Sheena!”, Mimi started while her head rest on her chest. “Mimi will be the one planning for our date today!”
Sheena smiled, before slowly rising up from bed.
She yawned, before stretching her arms.
“I’ll be looking forward for today’s date, Mimi.”
It was a sunny day, the perfect weather for any outdoor activities that they wanted to do.
Mimi stood in front of Sheena with her chest puffed out.
“Sheena, Mimi did her hair today!” She proudly declared.
“Really?”
Mimi nodded ecstatically.
Before saying, “Not just that,” she followed. “Mimi also prepared a hot chocolate!” Mimi pointed on two matching mugs of hot chocolates resting on the shelf not too far away from their bed.
Seeing this Sheena could not help herself and let out a chuckle.
“Thank you, Mimi.”
Mimi grabbed her by the arm guides her, and sat her down as she handed Sheena her mug, before sitting down herself.
Mimi, however, did not immediately picked up hers, instead, she waited for her lover to take a sip first to see how she would react.
Sheena blew on it once, then twice, and then third times before going in for a sip.
Seeing this, Mimi also took a sip out of her mug as well.
A bit sweet…, Sheena thought to herself.
“Too sweet!” Mimi exclaimed.
While Mimi was gulping down her hot chocolate, she abruptly stopped before hopping out of her seat, heading over to the drawer under their bed, frantically searching for something.
When she could not find it, she moved over to the drawer beside it, continuing her search.
Eventually, she stops, pulled out a pair of dress, laying them on the bed before standing up, chest puff.
“H-Heh…. M-Mimi also picked the dress!” Mimi exclaimed while sweating.
She almost forgot about it…didn’t she? Sheena smiled before finishing her drink. No matter how this goes, as long as Mimi is having fun…
“S-Sheena!” Mimi called out, “Quick, I’ll help you prepare too.”
--- (Few moments later…) ---
Mimi's hands were locked to Sheena's swinging as they walk by the hallway.
Sheena wore a cream-colored dress that fell just below her knees, layered with a knitted sweater vest tied neatly at the sides. Beside her, skipped Mimi, dressed in a white puff-sleeved blouse tucked into a pair of dark high-waisted shorts.
“Sheena, where do you—” Mimi covered her mouth. “I mean, we should go check the cafeteria.”
Sheena nodded. Cafeteria…. A picnic perhaps? She thought to herself.
While walking down the hallway, Mimi has her arms cross with her eyes close, muttering words that are audible only to her.
I’ve never seen Mimi like this before…
“Mimi? Sheena?” A short hair girl with tan skin called out to them.
“Ali—”
Before Sheena could greet her, Mimi grabbed Ali’s shoulder guiding her away from Sheena, all the way to the staircase.
From the looks of it, Mimi dragged Ali away to have a conversation with her.
“Ali, Mimi needs help.” Mimi started.
Ali looks back at where Sheena was and waved at her.
“Mhmm.” She nodded. “Just make sure it isn’t long; you don’t want Sheena to wait there for too long.”
Mimi nodded. “Do you have any suggestion to do on a date?”
Ali tilted her head after hearing the question.
“Mimi promised Sheena that I will plan for today’s date…but…”, Mimi dropped her shoulder. “Mimi have no idea how, unlike Sheena.”
“An idea for a date?”, Ali put a finger on her chin. “How about a picnic?”
“But we always do that…”, Mimi exclaimed. “Sheena might be getting tired of doing the same thing again…”
Ali smiled softly.
She leaned her back against the staircase’s railing, before looking at the necklace around her neck.
“Mimi,”, Ali softly spoke. “Do you get tired when talking to Sheena?”
“Not at all!” Mimi shakes her head left to right.
“You see, when you love someone, repeating things becomes trivial.”, she giggled. “Mainly because it’s them who we’re with.”
Mimi stared at Ali.
As much as Ali wanted to give more advice to Mimi. She was suddenly called down the stairs by Esta, an upperclassman.
Ali bowed her head, says her sorry before heading down—she looked behind her and gave Mimi one final advice before leaving.
“You can ask her if you want.”, she said. “Afterall, having good communication is key to a good relationship.”
Mimi’s eyes brighten and nodded a total of four times. “Mimi will do just that! Thank you, Ali!”
Ali’s gazed slowly followed Mimi, before smiling.
She stared down at her necklace letting out a bittersweet smile as she stares at it, before descending down the staircase.
“I’m back!” Mimi cheerfully exclaimed as she walks next to Sheena.
“What did you two talk about?” Sheena asked.
Mimi’s head perked up when she asked.
Feeling Sheena’s gaze, she put a finger on her lips. “It’s a secret!” Before they continue their walk.
“By the way, Sheena.” Mimi tugged on her dress while walking.
“Yes?”
“Do you want to go for a picnic?”
Sheena nodded. “Sounds great.”
“Now that I remember it, our first picnic date was interrupted by some of our underclassman.”
“Mimi won’t let that happen again!” Mimi declared. “Sheena, let’s hurry to the cafeteria so that we can be there first!”
As they walked down the hallway, they pass by Ms. Omi, upon seeing them Ms. Omi reminded them of their homework that is needed to be pass tomorrow.
Hearing that, Mimi protested. “No way! No homework during day-off!”
Ms. Omi ignored Mimi’s protest and looked at Sheena with her dead pan eyes.
“Y-Yes ma’am!” Sheena nervously nodded, before pushing Mimi forward.
“No way! Sheena, it’s supposed to be our day-off!!” Mimi continues. “Teacher is unfair!”
Ms. Omi watched as both of the girl’s figure disappear alongside the noises Mimi makes, smiling ever so subtly.
--- (After a few more complaints from Mimi) ---
They had arrived at the cafeteria.
Upon entering the scent of freshly baked bread filled the room; the scent alone is enough to satisfy one’s hunger.
But Mimi is not there for the freshly baked breads.
Sheena and Mimi approached the cafeteria’s counter where three ladies are working.
“Excuse me!” Mimi was the first to initiate.
“Rice Ball Girl!” A lady with glasses exclaimed.
Sheena bowed.
“It’s Sheena. Sheena.” Mimi complained. “Do you have rice and flours?”
“Why yes.”
Mimi smiled. “Can Mimi make some rice ball and bread?”
“I’ll help too.” Sheena gladly volunteered.
After putting on their apron, they immediately got to work.
Mimi insisted on making the bread herself. After a few moments of hesitation, Sheena agreed.
“Just call me when you need help, okay?”
“Okay!” Mimi excitedly went to work.
She looks very happy…
It was afternoon by the time they had finish on baking.
“Don’t forget the basket, young lady.” The lady with glasses handed over a basket, with the breads and rice ball that they had made, alongside bottle of milks for beverage.
Mimi jumps up and down, grabbing Sheena’s dress before waving their goodbyes.
“Let’s check the Back Garden.” Mimi suggested as she walks with her arms swinging.
“I was thinking the same thing.”
Mimi slowly walks closer besides Sheena.
Before Sheena could see what’s coming, Mimi holds her hands, swinging it as they walk.
--- (Some more walking…) ---
After arriving at the Back Garden, there were students hanging around mostly from students that were from the lower group.
Mimi furrowed her eyebrows and perched her lip.
“Too many people…”
Noticing Mimi’s frustration, Sheena tried to grab her arm. “We can still set—”
“No way!” Mimi exclaimed. “It’s just supposed to be Sheena and Mimi.”
“M-Mimi…”
Did I make her mad?
Instead, Mimi pulled her inside to look for other places.
They checked back at the cafeteria, but it too was filled with students, so they search again. They check their classroom, but that too has students.
“What about the library?” Mimi excitedly suggested.
“I am…not sure of they’ll allow it…” Sheena argued. “Also, it may have more students than the classroom….”
Mimi’s excitement was quickly turned into disappointment but was still smiling nonetheless, so they continue the search.
“Mimi…” Sheena muttered under her breath.
In the end, they had searched almost all the possible picnic area including the ones some of their friends recommended.
All but one—
“Nurse!”
The door from the infirmary swung open, startling the only person inside, that is Ms. Fran the school nurse.
“What is it now?” Ms. Fran asked with a hint of annoyance in her voice. “Also, you could learn how to knock first, brat.”
“Ms. Fran.” Sheena waved at her.
Ignoring what Ms. Fran had just said. Mimi invited herself in and stand face to face with the nurse.
“Nurse, can we go behind the infirmary?” Mimi requested.
Ms. Fran flicked Mimi’s forehead before leaning on her chair.
She crossed her legs before resting her head on her hand.
“Sure, I don’t mind, but what for?”
“We want to have a picnic.”
Mimi stared intensely at Ms. Fran.
Ms. Fran darted her eyes from the basket that Mimi is holding, then to Sheena, before letting out a sigh.
“Whatever… just don’t make a mess in there, understood?”
“Thank you, Nurse!” Mimi grinned. “Sheena, let’s go.”
Mimi opened the door letting Sheena go first before shutting it close.
The place behind the infirmary was a forest area, the same place where Mimi, after every battle, was always dropped off—the place where Sheena waits for her.
But this time was different, because that same place is now where they are having their date, uninterrupted.
Mimi shakes off the picnic cloth before laying down the green grasses before guiding Sheena to it and making her sit down first. She followed second, sets down the picnic basket and pull out all the breads and rice balls that they had made, alongside the bottle of milks given from them by the cook from the cafeteria.
“Sheena~” Mimi handed her a pair of breads and rice balls, and a bottle of milk.
“Thank you, Mimi.”
Sheena took a bite off of the rice balls.
A bit salty…
Sheena glances at Mimi.
Her expression was surprisingly straight forward; she did not even comment on the food she was eating.
Not long after, she had finished her fill before Sheena.
“Sheena…” Mimi called out. “I’m sorry…”
“Eh?”
“Mimi promised that I’ll handle our date today…” Mimi pulled her knees to her chest and hugged them. “We could have done more things together if we did not spend time wandering around looking for a picnic place…”
“Mimi…”
“Mimi thought that it would be easy…” Mimi digs her face in-between her knees. “How does Sheena do it?”
So that’s why she’s been acting that way…
“Well, I…usually just go for things that I think you might like to do.”
“B-But…most of the time, I just…want to do things and…as long as I’m with Mimi, that alone is enough to me!”
“So…Sheena isn’t mad st Mimi?” Mimi slowly crawls to Sheena.
“O-Of course not!” Sheena grabbed Mimi’s hands. “You did your best, Mimi, and I’m proud of you for that. Thank you, Mimi!”
Hearing those words, Mimi hugged her with teary eyes, while Sheena softly and gently brushes her hair.
“Sheena is warm….” Mimi said under her breath.
“We should wrap this up and head to our room.”
“Mhm”
--- (Inside their room) ---
Upon entering their room, Mimi heads over to their bed, letting herself sunk on the mattress.
“Did you have fun, Sheena?” Mimi asked softly.
“Mhm.” Sheena nodded. “A lot of fun!”
“Mimi is glad….”
Asleep already…she must be really tired then…
Sheena went to bed next to Mimi, pulling her closer and putting a blanket over both of them.
Sheena leaned in for a kiss. “Good night, Mimi.”
