Upgrades

Summary:

Robotnik gives Stone an upgrade to make the android more human like so he doesn’t feel as lonely in the crab.

Work Text:

Agent Stone was an android, a creation by the doctor to keep the genius safe from any outside force that would want to hurt him. The only problem with that plan is when he got too excited about something, he would run off without taking his body guard. That was how the pair ended up under the sea in a large mechanical crab.

Stone sighed as he carried another armful of empty week old take out bags to the trash can and stuffed them down. He washed his hands with soap, listening to the sound of whatever game Robotnik had started playing that week.

Ever since the older man had gotten out of his cast he was either planted on the couch consuming a random media and snack after snack, or tweaking blue prints Stone wasn’t allowed to see. The android was fairly certain it was a new update for himself. He hoped it came with tear ducts and a better understanding of emotions because watching the doctor in his cast and then struggling to relearn how to walk again had shattered Stone’s metaphorical heart.

The agent started walking over to his boss to see if he needed anything when the doctor stood up, popping his back. The android stood still, watching as Robotnik walked over to the kitchen counter Stone had just cleaned and started to put a pile of tools and a mysterious box Stone had been requested to acquire from an old lab. The doctor hadn't bothered to tell him what was in it, which the agent had found strange. Usually his boss wanted to info-dump about every little thing he did, but for the past few weeks he had been so secretive.

“Climb on.”

Stone blinked, watching as Robotnik patted the counter. He did as he was told, lying down flat as the doctor began to poke at his abdomen and mumble to himself. The android felt as Robotnik’s fingers started to unbutton his shirt undo his tie before they traveled to his shut off button.

The agent smiled softly as he heard Robotnik whisper, “Good night, sycophant.” Before the world went black.

When the android booted up again he felt tingly. It was pleasant, but his favorite part of upgrades was that he got to cuddle up to Robotnik as his systems came back online and accepted the upgrades. The doctor always ran his fingers through Stone's hair, sometimes he even kissed his forehead if the changes to his body were more physical, like getting new limbs or the one time his eyes had been upgraded.

This time, he didn’t get a rundown on the new features even though the agent could tell the flesh on his abdomen had been upgraded. All he knew was that he found himself crying at the newest episode of La Ulitma right along with the doctor and that he had started feeling a rumbling in his stomach, something he had been informed meant he was hungry.

Stone was overjoyed that he got to eat with the doctor. He always sat with the older man while he ate, but now he could properly join him in consuming substances. And it actually improved his charge levels! It wasn’t enough that he still didn’t need to be manually charged in his port but now he could go longer and sleep in the bed with the doctor more often instead of in his little cubicle next to the bed like some kind of futuristic alien vampire. He liked the extra doctor time, but was completely unaware of the side effects that came with sleeping more and being able to eat alongside Robotnik.

The android didn’t notice when his pants started to pinch. He had the sensors, all the correct calibrations, and pain detectors to notice the sensation, he just didn’t attribute them correctly. Why would his pants randomly get smaller? It just wasn’t a possibility.

Then his shirts were noticeably too tight. Which was just annoying because he kept having to mend seams and buttons that popped. Robotnik never commented on it, so Stone just ignored that too. It was easier than bringing it up and getting told he was confused.

It wasn’t until his shirt buttons refused to meet across his abdomen that the android finally came to the conclusion something was wrong. He stepped in front of the bathroom mirror and looked at himself, really looked. It was something the agent had never done before because he was a robot, he didn’t change so therefore he never needed to look.

The agent scanned his whole body thoroughly. He had the same short black hair and beard, the same purple eyes with black scleras, but his face seemed to be rounder, for lack of a better word. The android raised a finger and pressed, watching as it sunk into his face a fraction deeper than it would have just a month before. He couldn’t even feel his metallic skull in some parts where he could have located the jaw before.

Stone let his critical eyes sink lower, down to his abdomen. It looked like the doctor’s rounded and ample body, which hadn’t been the case before. At some point, the faint line of Stone’s abs had softened into a muffin top and a hint of a belly. His pectorals had also softened into something heavy and more like the doctor’s man-boobs.

The android gritted his teeth. He shouldn’t look like this, it shouldn’t be possible. He was a robotic creation of the doctor’s. He should not be able to gain weight. Stripping off his pants, Stone started to inspect his legs, fingers digging into the fat on his thighs and ass as his processor started whirring over time trying to figure out what could have possibly happened to him.

The android sunk to the cool tile of the bathroom, a mix of flustered confusion and frustration on his face. He closed his eyes, fingers still digging into the additional adipose tissue, leaving marks from his nails along his skin when he heard a knock.

“Come in,” he spoke as if automatically, the trained agent part of him forgetting that Robotnik had started treating him more like a friend than a robotic sycophant.

The doctor opened the door, peeking around it to see his android sitting naked on the floor with his knees to his chest. Robotnik didn't even bother to ask what was wrong, he just plopped down next to Stone and rested his head on the shorter man’s shoulder.

Stone let out a little noise, “I think I’m broken.”

“Nonsense. I made you and as a certified genius, I can confirm you aren't."

“I’m,” the android paused, searching for a word that could both articulate how he felt but not upset Robotnik, “all flabby.”

“Well duh. Eating does that to you if you have no need for the extra nutrients. Besides, we match.”

“So I should stop eating and I can return to my former self?” Stone asked, still not fully understanding the doctor.

“No,” Robotnik paused, “Look, I am trying to upgrade you to be as human as possible so it feels less like you are my pet robot or servant. I want you to be your own man, Stone, free to do what you want.”

Stone sat in silence, waiting for him to continue.

Robotnik took the android’s hand, keeping their interlaced fingers resting on the tile of the crab’s bathroom but his eyeline on the shower curtain so he wasn't looking at him, “I want you to choose to be here, so I know you want to be around me.”

“I do.”

“Hush, sycophant,” the doctor playfully snapped, “but this,” he patted at Stone’s tan belly, “purely selfish, I’m afraid. I just didn’t want to eat alone and well if I’m going to become “flabby” so do you.”

The agent gave a small smile, “I do like it when we match.”

Robotnik kissed his cheek, “see? It was a really good idea. Like I said! Certified genius.”

The doctor brought a hand to Stone's cheek, tilting his head and pulling the android into a kiss, mumbling against his lips, “and you aren’t broken.”
