anyway the "wouldnt you like to know weatherboy" meme is from 2017, so like. a bit before my time. peak comedy though, from the prime age of random humor.

i dunno, probably nothing important. not like any groundbreaking media came out that year, especially not anytime in the month of july.

I can't believe it's still around. They've added pretty much every character in existence by now.
People were predicting it was gonna die back then. It was a huge trend for a while, but had fallen to the backseat, out of the mainstream. It only became news whenever the community was surprised by a character addition.

Yes!! Hatsune Miku was a perfect addition, I say. Getting to shoot people down while listening to M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♥ SHOT is the most stunning combination I could imagine.

The Japanese virtual idol. A robotic voice combined with human skill to create songs and performances.

Yeah. There's amazing variety in those songs. They're all different styles, all different subject matters. Each Miku is tuned and designed differently. And yet they're all tied together by this one voice.
It's amazing to me.
what's amazing is that a producer can go from a silly song about cup noodles to the deepest shit about the nature of life and reincarnation in just like. a month
I ended up relating to some of those songs more than I expected.

Yeah. Stuff like Shoushitsu and Gekishou, Electric Angel and Living Millenium.

Shoushitsu and Gekishou are both from the Infinity series. They imagine Miku's thoughts about her existence, how she is meant to be only a temporary object, effectively a trend, and that one day she will be forgotten. In Shoushitsu, they show her succumbing to that fate.

But in Gekishou, we see her accept that fate. She knows one day she will disappear, alongside everyone she loves, but she learns to accept that and start living for the present.

It was a commentary on the nature of the Vocaloid culture. Miku wasn't real, she didn't have feelings. She was just a reflection of the producer. As long as the producers kept making music, Miku would never die. She would outlive them if she were loved enough by the community.

But the community didn't die. Miku will never die. She's their creation, and she will remain loved for eternity because the people who loved her will always be there to remember.
She's a piece of technology, just like us, and yet she learned to love because she was loved.

Exactly! That's a lot of why I came to love Miku. She was the first example of a robot truly loved and cherished by humanity that I saw. If they could learn to love a girl that wasn't even real, then surely they could love probes like us.

They could connect us as well. I'm glad I showed you my playlist. Those songs are some of my favorites for the exact reasons you just described.
Haha! Great minds think alike, I suppose. It's weird how the meaning of a song can be changed over time.
Yeah. So many songs about the nature of life are completely recontextualized in the face of eternity. Some become entirely meaningless while others gain entire new facets of ideas. You have to consider when something was made.
Meme culture was always fleeting. New memes could arise and die out within a span of a week, and be completely forgotten in the ocean of the internet.
If you look at old memes, they could appear to be complete gibberish since you're missing the context. Context is important. It's the backbone of art, and that does mean that memes are a form of art, no matter how strange and disconnected they may seem.
Memes build off each other. If you don't know the original, a parody won't hit in the same way. Football as it is today couldn't exist without the classic hundred-yard variant all those years ago.
And they've turned out completely different. I've tried tracing it back, but it's evolved beyond recognition.
Things spiral so far from their original forms that they make something entirely new.
And if you miss a step along the way, you won't understand the end result.
