Work Text:
“Chuuya”
“Slug”
“Hat rack”
“Hey hello”
“Im trying to talk to you!”
The texts repeatedly buzzed Chuuya's phone, almost making it fall off the bedside table. He groaned as he rubbed the sand from his eyes, reaching out to grab it.
“What the hell do you want?” He typed back before dropping his phone onto the mattress beside him. He was just trying to sleep after the full day of work he had last night.
“I have an idea”
“I’m going to skip work”
“You will too tonight”
“I want to be teenagers again”
Dazai repeatedly typed sentences separately, increasing the amount of notifications instead of just sending it in one whole text. He knew it would piss Chuuya off, but it’s also just how he texted.
“No, I'm not hanging out with you, let alone skipping work. You’re a grown ass man, find something to do by yourself.” It seemed Chuuya thought the intention of this interaction was because Dazai was bored. That wasn’t exactly wrong.
“I saw in your search history that you were researching the specific whisky I'd talk about back then, I know you're feeling at least a little nostalgic.”
“How the hell do you have my search history?” The response flew back. Chuuya was now sitting up in his bed, the sheets folding at his hips.
“Doesnt matter!”
“I will be there in like an hour or two.”
“Whenever I feel like getting up and walking.”
Chuuya then replied to the splurge of messages, “Walk? Oh hell no I will not be caught dead in public with you.
“You gotta bend the rules once in a while”
“Im craving it”
“Wear something you can run in.”
The red head sighed, grumbling under his breath, “God damn him.” Despite his annoyance, he proceeded to get out of his bed anyway to get ready. Shower, then clothes, then hair. He shouldn’t care about how he presents to Dazai, he doesn't. It just became a habit to be well maintained. In the end he was dressed in loose fitting dress pants and a white relaxed button up. He had just been grabbing shoes out from the closet when a figure appeared on his balcony. In a not so elegant way, Dazai had snuck up through the fire escape to reach Chuuya's apartment instead of using stairs like a normal person.
Opening the sliding glass door, Chuuya berated him, “Someone could have thought you were breaking in! What if they called the cops?”
“Calm down Chibi, no one saw me,” Dazai said casually. It was an unusual sight to see him in clothes that weren't his work uniform. It wouldn't be a surprise if no one knew he owned other clothes. He had on a navy blue hoodie with slightly baggy khakis, his bandages looking clean and neat from where they peaked out from his sleeves and neck.
“Don’t make me regret this,” The ginger growled as he got on his shoes, just to be yanked out onto his balcony the second they were on. Dazai leaped to the railing, leaning heavily over it.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Chuuya said in a tone close to panic. He was not looking for a scene, let alone witnessing an attempt.
“Slug, you really need to relax. I say we take the quicker way down and hop through balconies.” Where could this idea have ever come from? Dazai does not have the upper body strength to Spider-Man down the railings. It’s a surprise that he could climb to get up here in the first place.
“You have fun with that,” The gravity manipulator scoffed, jumping up on the ledge, hands in his pockets. Dazai acted as if he had been morally insulted.
“What?! You’re going to leave me like a damsel in distress?”
“Yep,” He replied, before shooting down to the street in a red blur, careful to not make any large cracks in the pavement. He looked back up to Dazai at the top floor, who was pouting down to him, but obviously trying to think of a better way than just the fire escape. He decided to go with his first choice, an attempt to leap down to the balcony below, and so forth. Chuuya didn’t think he would panic, but the second Dazai had hung from the ledge and dropped, he ran to align vertically.
To the Executives surprise, Dazai calmly got onto the next balcony railing, glancing in through the glass. Chuuya watched as he waved to someone inside before continuing his descent down.
“That wasn’t fair, you’re like a bird if it was a missile,” Dazai whined when he managed to get down to the other man. Chuuya glared as he walked alongside him, in whatever direction the brunette seemed to have planned.
“Say’s the one trying to attract the attention of everyone on the damn street!” He argued back, “Seriously, are you trying to get arrested?”
“I told you to wear something to run in.”
“Technically I don’t need to run, that’s your problem,” the ginger stated like a defiant teenage girl, not intending too. This made the taller man laugh at him, which of course incited some verbal abuse.
When the bickering subsided, Chuuya asked genuinely, “Where are we going?” Dazai snickered at him, which filled the flame sparking inside.
“What? Are you too prestigious and rich to walk a little?”
“No!” he clapped back, not wanting to imprint a cocky image, “I-... don’t mind it.”
“Good, because I may or may not actually know where this place is,” The brunette said with a smile, listening to a high pitched, “Huh!?”
“It’s not a place I’d go too often, maybe you would.”
“Cut the cryptic shit-”
The place was no extravagant surprise, but it was a little sentimental. Yokohama World Porters, a shopping mall with around 150 unique stores. They had gone here late at night a few years ago. They did do it just to break into a liquor store, but they were in the mall nonetheless.
“I know you’ll have your fulfillment in shopping,” Dazai said as they entered, “I will people-watch. There can be groups so big or little that they think no one is watching.”
“Freak,” Chuuya hissed under his breath, but stayed beside the taller man. As they traveled, they were coming up on a store Chuuya wanted to enter.
“He suddenly spoke, not letting Dazai have time to respond, “I’m going in here,” before departing from him. It took an extra second for Dazai to react and follow the ginger.
He felt more out of place here than he does in Chuuya’s pent house. The clothing was so formal and something he would never wear, let alone touch. He stood beside Chuuya, watching as he checked out an item. Then he caught a glimpse of the price tag the ginger didn’t even glance at.
“22,750 Yen!?” He exclaimed a bit too loudly for public appeal.
“It’s spread broadcloth,” was the unfazed response.
“What does that even mean?” Dazai whispered, a sneer in his voice.
“Just how the fabric is woven.” Because that matters so much. Dazai thought it was otherworldly that Chuuya wouldn’t mind spending that much on a single article of clothing. Then again, Dazai never cared to spend money on himself. Maybe it was joyful, not that he would test it out any time soon,
They went in and out of a few other shops, all outrageously priced in Dazai’s mind. He found himself paying more attention to Chuuya and how he behaved rather than the strangers they walked past. He only really paid attention to what the store held when Chuuya had him smell colognes in a cosmetic section.
“This smells like three of my pay checks,” Dazai commented, holding a scent tester between his fingers. Chuuya actually smiled at the reply.
“I take that as a compliment. Here, try this,” he handed another test strip to the brunette. Dazai made a face when sniffing this one.
“Too floral, something I could see Yosano wearing. People might confuse you as a girl with this one,” he teased, dropping it in the trash bin.
“You’re acting as if people normally do that,” the shorter one growled, spraying another bottle, sniffing the paper before offering it to Dazai.
“That one’s definitely better. It’s like if whiskey became sentient and made a gas replica of its essence.” Chuuya gave an unimpressed look to the brunette. It was very strange language.
“Whatever, it’ll be yours anyway-” the red head muttered, grabbing a boxed version before seeming to look at another they had tested.
“Wait what? Hold on!” Dazai suddenly felt caught off guard, “You? Spending money on me? Did you hit your head or something?”
“No,” Chuuya responded casually as he grabbed a cologne he liked, “it just seems rude if I don’t, since you brought me here.” This was all said with no proper eye contact between them, meaning Dazai couldn’t gauge Chuuya's facial expression to figure out what in the name of Mori was going on. He watched as the executive walked up to the cash register, paying for both the items, not even having looked at the price. Dazai had no clue what it could be, nor did he want to look. His dog returned, holding out a small bag that contained his cologne. He slowly took it, following Chuuya out of the store as if that entire encounter was normal of them. Though, it’s not like he didn’t mind Chuuya paying for something.
They then came upon a book store. The brunette wasn’t even paying attention, instead watching a mother try to control her disobedient child a few meters away. The red head voice brought him back, turning to look at him.
“You want to go in here? You’ve been following me, it’s only fair.”
“Come on Chuuya! I told you I wanted to act like teenagers and live a little. Do you really think I would read back then?”
“You did, it was just the same book every time… which I’m pretty sure you still read. Just accept we are more mature now.”
Dazai ended up getting a book, the topic of it being suicide of course. He pretended to be disinterested the entire time they were in there, but Chuuya was engaging more than he was.
“What’s Yaoi?” He suddenly asked, looking at one of the book shelf titles. Dazai was completely stunted at the question, before he burst out laughing.
“It’s boy love- like just stories about gay guys,” He sputtered out through laughter.
“Oh… someone called me doomed Yaoi once. Not sure if it’s an insult or not.” They had to get out of the store as soon as possible after Chuuya had said that, because Dazai was about to piss off everyone wanting quiet in there.
There was one more store Chuuya wanted to go into before they left. It was another fancy place, with elegant jewelry and watches. Some were in an open display above the cases. Dazai debated whether to let out this inner child he so wanted to feed, and shoplift. It would be a petty thing, and stupidly embarrassing if caught. But isn’t that the thrill? When the store clerk had her back turned and Chuuya was distracted, Dazai simply swiped something into his pocket without much action. When they would leave the store a few minutes later, he'd make sure they were a safe distance away before he fell in step behind Chuuya. In a gentle, almost intimate way, the brunette took out the silver box chain, moving to put it around the shorter man's neck. They almost crashed into each other as the ginger stopped in his tracks, looking down at what was being put around him.
“Dazai…” he said in a low voice once it was clasped, “everything in there was over 20,000 yen at least. Don’t tell me-” he spun around to face the criminal. The accused held his hands up in surrender.
“Hey I’ve done worse things. I already have a debt at a cafe, this is nothing compared to that,” He argued confidently. Chuuya growled, building a comeback but failing. Instead he spun back around and basically dragged the other out of the store.
“You’re fucking reckless you know that?” Dazai simply laughed, not resisting the other. The tension was only diverted when Dazai’s stomach audibly made a sound. It was quiet, but Chuuya had picked up an ear for it over the years.
“Keeping with your stupid theme, do you want Gyudon?” he asked, “The place we used to go to is still open.”
“Lead the way, your majesty! For my opinions are nothing but a servant's dreams!”
“Shut the hell up.”
The two boys ate their beef bowls on the way back to Chuuya house. Dazai still had more plans, but he wanted to detour so they weren’t carrying anything unnecessary.
“My next idea is not a confident one,” the brunette said as he began in an unknown direction again. It was an absurd amount of walking, but there was something intimate in the way neither would have preferred a car.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean, Mackerel?” Chuuya gruffed, blindly following.
“It’s a good chance the building isn’t there, let alone active.” The statement didn’t narrow anything down As they got closer to the unknown destination, the red head began to recognise the path. He didn’t want to act like it, but something was a bit hopeful that this location was still in service.
As they approached, the lack of cars and extravagant lights told them the fatal news. Their arcade place was closed, most likely no chance of reopening. Dazai walked up toward the building, cupping his hands to look through the window.
“There’s stuff still in there…”
“Really?” The ginger was ignored as Dazai went to the front door, pulling out the body pin stashed in his sleeve.
“You fucking bastard!” The shorter man whisper-yelled, watching as the door was unlocked. Without hesitation Dazai walked inside, despite the chance of working cameras. Everything was almost in the same place as the last time they’d ever been there with a few minor changes. Chuuya watched as the so-called bastard walked up to one of their favorite fighting games from then. He pressed a few buttons on the arcade machine, nothing happened. He checked the floor, seeing if everything was plugged in. It was.
“There’s no way they’d have working power. It would be a waste of electricity,” Chuuya explained, despite the amount he secretly wished it would work.
“It doesn’t hurt to try. Any clue where the breaker could be?”
“Probably in a breaker room,” Chuuya scoffed, pointing to a labeled door in the back.
“Thanks Dora the Explora,” he mocked, going over to pick the lock on another door. Chuuya stayed out by the machines as Dazai went into the dark unused room. There were some clicks that echoed.
“Is anything working?” Dazai called from where he stood. Chuuya pressed some buttons which made audible clicks.
“No, nothing.”
“Dammit.” The brunette re-emerged from the back room, looking around the place for inspiration. Chuuya had his eyes on the prize counter, a section they'd never been in. It was already abandoned, what hurt exploring?
Out of the corner of his eye, the taller man saw Chuuya cross the room. When he turned to watch, the Executive had swung over the prize counter. Now this is what he's been talking about. Dazai quickly followed, jumping over as well. Of course his first instinct was to check the cash register. Unfortunately it was empty.
“I still had a load of these somewhere,” Chuuya's voice came from further back. The brunette went to see what he was talking about, finding him standing over a giant box of tokens.
“You still have them? I thought you'd basically burn them after I deflected,” Dazai expressed, feeling a slight tension at the topic.
“I hold onto a lot of things you wouldn't expect.” This could have multiple meanings, the worst of it being guilt. Wanting the discussion to be redirected, Dazai went looking through the shelves, littered with cheap prizes. He found a container filled with crappy candy.
Snickering, the box was gestured toward Chuuya, “I dare you to eat one of these~.” The red head turned around, making a visibly repulsed face.
“I know you will, filthy bandage waster,” he remarked. Dazai rolled his eyes and continued searching. Sliding some packaging on the ground, he almost gasped at what he found.
“Chuuya! Maybe this will work,” the shorter man came over to investigate, looking over the other's shoulder. In front of them was a dusty spare generator, probably to be used for fridges during power outages.
“Come on, take it out already,” Chuuya said, failing to hide the excitement. He basically shoved Dazai to the side before they were both able to drag it out. They brought it over to the arcade machine they previously tried to use, rerouting the power cords to it. A dazzling display of colorful lights and 8-bit music flooded the boy's senses when the generator was turned on.
“Oh fuck yeah!” Chuuya exclaimed, jumping into the side he always took. Dazai smiled, taking a seat of his own as they selected characters.
“Don't get too excited, Chibi, they could be incredibly slow,” The brunette said mockingly. An angry huff was heard from the other side, then the game began. Curses were whispered from each side, insults mixed in. When Chuuya's screen flashed a giant “You Lose” text, he stepped up to look at Dazai smirking in his chair.
“I know you used cheat codes!”
“Just because I know them doesn't mean I use them,” the taller one said with a quiet laugh. His eyes lingered on the shorter man's collar bone, for the silver box chain was still being worn.
“You're telling me that after not playing for four years that I'd just lose that badly!?” The ginger quipped, making Dazai laugh louder.
“Just admit you suck!”
“I don't! Run it again.” They played a couple of more times, Chuuya losing drastically in each one. Finally he gave up, thinking of something he could beat the other in. Dazai watched as Chuuya unplugged the generator from the machines, the lights shutting off. He smirked maliciously at the brunette, gesturing over his shoulder to the Dance Dance Revolution pad.
“I bet 100 yen I'll beat you in that-” he challenged. Years ago, Chuuya repeatedly whooped Dazai's ass in the game. Potentially because Dazai had shitty coordination, along with hardly any stamina from never eating. Chuuya was almost mesmerizing to watch in the game, and the brunette wasn't against seeing it again.
“I bet I'm better than I used to be,” Dazai argued, following the other over to the machine. Before it was even plugged in, red lights were bringing to gleam behind them. The sun was setting, but it was not angled to shine into the building like that. Dazai whipped around, suddenly filled with adrenaline as the cop car came into view.
“Shit! Someone must have seen the lights and called- Go out the back door!” Chuuya glanced up from the generator, quickly catching onto the emergency. Dazai was already running to the door, and he came in close behind.
“Meet me at the North West corner of Yamashita Park, I still have one more plan!” He said with a smile Chuuya hadn't seen in years. He nodded and they quickly departed, Dazai having to take back ways to avoid being seen, while the gravity manipulation could easily jump between buildings.
The Mackerel was out of breath when he managed to meet Chuuya again, but he was still smiling greatly. Wisps of sunlight glimpsed through the buildings as it disappeared under the horizon. Chuuya snickered at the sight, having been waiting there for a good minute.
“I told you the cops were going to get called,” he remarked matter-of-factly. Dazai grumbled in annoyance as he began leading the way again, taking a predetermined path that led to the shore line. When they reached it, he took his shoes off with his heels.
“I swear to God if you're here to drown yourself-”
“No, for once I'm not. I suggest you join me, slug.” The ginger watched as the brunette casually walked into the water to mid calf way. How was his clothes getting wet, not uncomfortable? Chuuya didn't bother to step any closer.
“Come on, Hat Rack!” Dazai teased before bending down, scooping up water, and attempting to toss it onto the red head. The failed victim was not amused, crossing his arms.
“I swear to God I will float gallons of water above your head and drop it on you.” Dazai chuckled sleepily at the threat, because he knew the truth of it. The same thing happened close to seven years ago, and it led to them fighting each other in the water and both getting wet.
Dazai pouted, holding out his hands, “What's the worst that could happen? Just step in the water with me and embrace the mess.”
“You are a mess, that's why you're so comfortable with it,” the ginger bit back. He continued to watch Dazai's begging facial expressions before becoming annoyed.
“If I do it will you stop looking at me like a kicked puppy?”
“Don't compare me to a creature like that!” The taller man reprimanded. To his surprise, the shorter one took his shoes off and was stepping toward him in the water, clearly not comfortable with the sensations of wet cloth. He came to stand beside the other, viewing the sky that was beginning to spark with stars, a faint glimpse of the moon incoming.
“I really should be getting ready for work right about now,” Chuuya mutters, hands in his pockets.
“I already told you that you weren't going to work tonight. I knew you were going to be late, so why not miss the entire shift?”
“Dazai I can't just choose to come in or not, you know that. How am I going to explain this absence to Mori?”
“I could,” the brunette suggested, “I can make something up like dragging you to work on something with me.”
“And you expect he's going to be okay with me being with you on an unplanned assignment? Yeah right,” Chuuya groaned, rolling his eyes. Dazai smiled and pulled his phone from his pocket.
“You're not seriously going to text him,” the red head said, watching the others every move.
“Nope, I'm going to make Akutagawa do it.”
“What!? Do not have him do your dirty work.”
“He enjoys it, don't worry,” Dazai chimed, snapping his phone shut, “there, all done. Now you don't need to worry about it.” Chuuya growled, before looking back out at the sky, the moon now glimmering across the water. It was peaceful between the two of them. There was an underlying tension that both were avoiding.
“Was this a date?” Chuuya suddenly asked, making Dazai almost freeze in the water.
“Uh well, I wasn't thinking like that,” he definitely had been, “but if that's what you wanna consider it-”
“Oh hell no!” The ginger barked, bearing his teeth in anger at the other. Dazai simply smiled with a soft laugh, watching Chuuya behave like a dog, the chain still on his neck. He then watched his expression change as he stood up straighter. The brunette couldn't definitively identify what the other was thinking, but it was soon to be made obvious.
“God I hate you-” he grumbled, looking away with clenched teeth. Even in the dim light, Dazai could make out the redness in his ears.
“Are you blushing?” He asked, starting as a tease but got heavy as a warm feeling began to pulsate. Chuuya refused to interact with the taller man, continuing to look away.
Dazai bit his lip, taking a deep breath before speaking, his eyes averted, “I've always liked you… well I mean I don't know when it started but-.” He was suddenly rushed with embarrassment. The vulnerability he was expressing was cringe and overall stupid. He was only distracted from this feeling when the water splashed and rippled beside him. The brunette turned to see Chuuya staring at him with a fake look of irritation. The ginger hesitated before reaching up to tug Dazai down but his hoodie collar. They stared at each other for a moment, their breath mingling. His hands twitched before finding themselves on the shorter one waist. He was searching the red head's eyes, whether for acceptance or reciprocation, he didn't know. Finally, Dazai went for it. He tilted his head and moved in to kiss Chuuya. To his surprise, the ginger went with it. The world went quiet, no other feeling than the buzzing in their chests. All the awkward feelings came rushing back when they parted
“I hate you,” Chuuya announced, obviously forcing a mad expression. Dazai smirked, finding a new way to mess with him. He tugged the ginger closer and kissed him rapidly a few times.
“You sure?” He teased, receiving a blow to the shoulder. He laughed as he held the “injured” arm.
“Cut it out jack ass!” The red head barked, watching the brunette toss his phone to the shore. Quickly catching what was going on, he did the same.
“You're going down-”
“Asserting your dominance like the dog you are, huh?” Dazai coo'd, bending over and splashing water toward the other man. As expected, he used his ability to catch and send it back, wetting Dazai instead.
“Chibi!” He cried before spitting the salty water out, “Now you're cheating!”
“Says the freak that just kissed me!” The shorter one yelled back.
“You liked it, don't deny the truth!” Dazai regretted that almost immediately as a couple gallons of water were levitated and dowsed on the brunette. He stood in shock like a soaked cat, elbows angled up. Chuuya found this hysterical, almost falling over laughing. Taking the chance as he laughed, Dazai jumped through the water before tackling the shorter man. There was a pathetic scream before they hit the water, only deep enough to land on each other. Now Dazai was the one laughing as the ginger sat up in the water, shaking out his hair.
“I'm gonna kill you-”
“Please do~” the brunette chimed. He was then almost suffocated with the water that was thrown onto him.
“Okay okay mercy!” He shouted in-between mouth fulls of water. When he was able to see again, Chuuya was standing victoriously over him. Dazai pouted when laughed at, but was offered a hand. He took it and stood up, suddenly following Chuuya who was still holding his hand.
“Come on, it's only going to get colder and your weak ass is going to get sick.”
“Am not!” Dazai argued, but went to the shore anyway. As he collected his phone and shoes, he turned around to see Chuuya taking his shirt off. He knew he had to make a joke for it not to be awkward, but the moonlight gleam on the man's skin was memorizing, not just his toned body.
“I don't know how the hell you walk around after trips in the river-” the model worthy man grumbled, using the towel to scrunch water out of his hair.
Finally, Dazai's mind processed and he thought of something to say, “Woah slug, don't you think it's a bit too early to be getting naked?”
“Excuse me!?” He squeaked, “go fuck yourself.” The brunette giggled quietly, walking alongside the other back to the road. As they went in the direction of Chuuya's apartment, Dazai's stomach did flips when a hand interlocked with his.
“You better not tell anyone shit. I will not hesitate to kill you,” the red head threatened. Dazai gave his hand a light squeeze.
“Aye aye captain! I'll keep all the shit to myself!” He exclaimed with enthusiasm, causing Chuuya to laugh softly.
“You do like being around me!” He claimed, making a small jump as he walked. The ginger immediately growled.
“Hell no, not in the slightest!” Dazai was certainly amused, smiling to himself as they walked.
Chuuya muttered under his breath, “freak.”
“Awh you're so mean Chibi,” the brunette complained, receiving more irritated noises. When the two finally returned to Chuuya's apartment, Dazai let go of his hand as he went to the door.
“Where do you think you're going?”
“Home?” Dazai said like it was obvious.
“You're going to walk across town, soaking wet and in the middle of the night? I'm not letting you do that,” the shorter man stated firmly, “I'm going to change then bring you back on the motorcycle.” Dazai immediately looked distressed.
“Really? The motorcycle? I prefer to walk over that crazy thing,” the brunette vehemently disagreed. Chuuya gave a look that said he had no stance in this argument. Dazai swiftly uncomfortably before muttering “fine” under his breath.
Just as Chuuya was entering the building, Dazai had to call out to him just to piss him off, “You're lucky you're attractive! You should wear your shirt less-” the door echoed to the street from the sheer force it was slammed with. Chuuya returned a minute later with dry clothes and motorcycle keys in hand. He didn't bother dragging the lanky bastard along with him as he went toward the vehicle. He'd get over the hissy fit soon enough.
As expected, when the bike roared to life, Dazai gave a groan and some muttered insults before getting on the back, “I almost hope we crash.” He set his hands on the others sides as they reversed, noting the ginger wouldn't be pleased by his damp clothes.
“And I'm not letting you fall off,” Chuuya snarked, grabbing the man's wrist and yanking his arm around his waist, “I need to shower anyway I don't care that you're wet.” It took a moment for him to relax, the bike increasing speed as they exited the parking lot. Just as Dazai felt safe, chin rested on the shorter man's shoulder, the stupid hat rack had to rev it up more, making the wind whistle by. The first turn made the brunette want to vomit, clutching tighter and burying his face in his back.
“This would be a very painful death Chuuya! I'm not looking forward to it!”
“I can't hear you! Did you say you want it faster?” The red head sarcastically remarked, speeding way past the legal limit. Dazai was crushing him at this point, nails clawing into the sides. He felt out of breath when they actually stopped at a stop light.
“I hate you, I hate you, I'm gonna throw up-” the taller one whined, resulting in being laughed at. It got no better when they started up again. They got to Dazai's place in an unreasonably fast time, it's a surprise no cop followed them. When the motorcycle stopped, Chuuya waited for the mackerel to get off before himself. When the brunette's feet hit the ground, he almost fell immediately, legs shaking. The ginger snickered, coming up behind him to gently hold his waist.
“You're okay shit bag, you didn't die did you?”
“It fucking felt like it!” Dazai cried, gripping what he could of Chuuya's arms behind him. His instability gave the executive an embarrassing idea. Without struggle, Chuuya bent down and scooped Dazai up in his arms, instinctively making him wrap his arms around the shorter one's neck.
“What the fuck do you think you're doing!”
“Well clearly you can't walk,” The red head smiled, walking to Dazai's apartment door, “I'm being a gentleman.”
“As gentle as a toddler with a hammer-”
“I will drop your ass on the concrete!” That shut Dazai up. He definitely felt humiliated, being carried by someone way smaller than him, humbled even. He knew Chuuya was strong, but he didn't think it'd be used like this. The ginger then searched the man in his arms pockets, finding his key. He kept the brunette sturdy as he unlocked the door, pulled it with his foot, and set Dazai on his feet inside the apartment. The humiliated man turned, planning to make a joke to alleviate the embarrassment. What he didn't expect to find was a genuine smile, directed towards him. The heart he hardly knew he had, beated out of his control. Knowing he had to act once again, Dazai took a small step, cupping Chuuya's face in one hand. He leaned down and kissed him softly, being greeted with more force than last time, a hand moving to the back of his head. Something inside Dazai craved more, but he knew he had to restrain himself. He gently clawed Chuuya's back as the kiss broke. The ginger looked slightly conflicted before he spoke.
“I should go deal with Mori. I haven't checked my phone but I know it isn't gonna be good.”
“Fuck your boss-”
“Dazai!” The slug snapped back, slapping him gently on the shoulder, “it's the right thing to do. I'm not like you, who skips and hardly ever does work.” The brunette couldn't deny it, huffing in defeat as his eyes pleaded silently. He did not want this night to end, but of course he wasn't going to say that.
Chuuya reached up on his toes, giving a quick kiss, whispering “goodnight” before turning out the door. Dazai stood speechless, words he didn't even know caught in his throat. He watched the man he could now confidently say he loved, walk back to the motorcycle. The door was shut and the apartment was quiet. Then like some teenage school girl, Dazai went and flopped onto the couch, burying his face in a pillow.
