Yellow was on the ground, her breath coming out pained and panicked as she trembled.
The pulsing tumor on her head throbbed violently.
Red, Black, blue, they all stood in shock, not knowing what to do or how to help.
Green could feel his heart seizing in his chest, the sight of the woman he loved suffering making it hard to breathe.
But she needed help.
Shaking off his suddenly nausea, he rushed forward, dropping to the ground near where they had rested the night prior. His hands shook as he brushed aside leaves, trying to find the kit.
He was starting to panic, but thankfully the pets handed it over.
He took it, and quickly opened it and-
oh god.
He startled and dropped it a little. Inside the kit was a fucking dead rat.
A dead rat that seemed to have died via the very thing he needed to save Yellow. He swallowed down his nausea and grabbed the injector.
It was covered in thick, dark blue blood.
It was not at all sanitary, and he was sure Yellow could easily get sick if he used it on her.
She was still trembling on the ground nearby, he didn't have a moment to waste.
He did his best to wipe the syringe clean, using some of his fur to soak up the blood that clogged the syringe part.
Judging that there wasn't any left on the metal, he plunged the tip through the fabric of one of the vials of.. whatever medicine that was.
Getting a good dose inside of the injector, he rushed back over to her side. She had her bandana stuffed in her mouth, the blue fabric soaked with some of her golden blood.
Despite the queasiness that built up inside of him, he needed one hand gently on the side of her head, before plunging the sharp metal into that pulsing lump, pressing down and injecting it.
Yellow jerked and tensed up for a moment, trembling, before finally intending as he removed it and the violent lump went down.
She spat out the bandana, her chest heaving as she fought for air after that brush with death.
Tears were pricking Green's eyes, his hands starting to shake violently now that Yellow wasn't actively dying.
She looked up at him with that soft gaze that always made his chest tighten, teaching out with trembling fingers to gently pat his knee, smiling up at him.
She was okay.
She was going to be okay.
Half of a sob escaped him, stress perminating every pore of his being, his fur feeling 10 pounds heavier.
The others still stood off to the side from them, all in shock at what happened.
Red was the first to break out of his trance, her eyes wide.
"Yellow- I- what was that!? You had that giant lump- tumor- thing- are you okay??" The stressed out leader stammered, while Black moved to help green back up to his feet.
One hand took Green's, and the other clamped around the other crewmate's side.
"C'mon man."
Black muttered, patting Green's side as he helped him sit down near the entrance of the cave, while Red and blue moved to gently grab Yellow to prop her up against the wall, away from the snow.
Green took a moment to breathe, tears soaking the fur of his cheeks.
He knew he had been warned about the tumor.. thing.. whatever it was.. but the fact he had to do something about it so soon?
Seeing Yellow on the ground like that, panicked and in pain..
He sucked in a breath, and got up from where he sat against the snow and rock, padding over to where Blue sat next to Yellow, Red checking back with Black.
Green slumped down, hand moving to Yellow's back.
"You.. okay?" He spoke hesitantly, scared she'd get worse or something, even though he damn well knew she wasn't as fragile as the flowers that reminded him of her.
She was still catching her breath, but she nodded softly, examining the blood staining her blue bandana.
"I'm okay, yeah." She sighed, glancing over at him. "Thank you for.. ah.. doing that, man."
"Of course, Yellow."
"I- hah.. didn't mean for you to ever have to do that- or at the very least do that so soon but.. it's very stressful out here."
"I know.."
"With the crash and the dehydration and the fact orange is gone and.."
"Yellow.."
"Right. Sorry. Just everything is so stressful right now. I keep saying it but.. I'm sorry Green." She sighed, shifting slightly, wincing as she put a little weight onto her leg, which was still healing from the bear attack.
"You don't have to apologize to me, it's fine. I'm just happy you're okay." Green murmured, gently taking Yellow by the hand, and tugging her close, gently rubbing his visor against the side of her's, watching as a golden blush spread under her fluff.
"Right.. yeah." She sighed, softening against him, her thumb tracing his knuckles.
".. don't know what I'd do without ya, man." She laughed softly, picking up the flower from earlier.
"You should.. show me where you found this, once we head back down to the forest."
".. right, I'll remember to do that." Green chuckled, the painful and cold feelings that had built up in his chest from the crisis earlier melting away like snow under the sun of spring.
Seriously. Yellow truly was the light of his world, her smile was so soft, and her laugh was downright angelic- when it wasn't ugly laughing of course, but at the same time, he deeply enjoyed when he managed to get such unrefined joy from her-
He was snapped from his thoughts by the sound of the captain, Red checking the carrier as she spoke.
"If Yellow's doing better, we should be able to proceed with the plan as expected. Green, can you bring her over here?" Red looked up, his eyes finding the pair.
"Of course." He nodded, rising slowly. He knelt down, one hand slotting under her legs, the other finding her back.
Huffing, he pulled her upwards, cradling her in his arms and ensuring he wouldn't drop her before padding over.
Reaching the sled carrier thing, he gently set Yellow down in it, adjusting her for a minute.
"Comfy?" He chuckled, glancing up to meet her warm gaze.
"Ehh, could use some silk and velvet." She joked.
"oh, and where do you expect me to find such royal amenities, your highness?" His visor narrowed, studying the smug look on her face.
"I dunno!" She concluded after a moment. "Guess you just have to figure it out."
Green was about to shoot back a tease, when black cleared his throat.
"Sorry to interrupt, but are we ready to leave, or do we need to wait another 5 moons for you two to finish?"
"Oh! Right, sorry." Green quickly stammered, his face quickly growing hot.
It was so easy to get distracted when she was around.
"Sorry." He mumbled again, moving to check that they weren't leaving anything behind, before joining the others as the carrier was pulled along, snow crunching beneath their feet as they continued on their mission.
