Mistletoe- Confidenceshipping

Summary:

Ash and Georgia kiss under the mistletoe

Work Text:

Snow fell lightly across the Unova training grounds.

It wasn’t a heavy storm, just a steady drift of white flakes that softened the edges of the small outdoor battlefield near the Pokémon Center.

Ash barely seemed to notice the cold.

“Pikachu, dodge!”

Pikachu darted sideways just as a Dragon Breath blasted past him, the blue energy crackling through the snowy air.

“Pika!”

Across the battlefield Georgia smirked.

“Dragonite, again!”

Her Dragonite roared, wings beating hard as it lunged forward.

Ash pointed.

“Quick Attack!”

Pikachu shot forward like a bolt of yellow lightning, weaving under
Dragonite’s arms and striking with a flash of sparks.

The impact pushed Dragonite back a step.

Georgia’s eyes sharpened.

“…Not bad.”

Ash grinned.

“I’ve gotten stronger since the last time we battled!”

Georgia crossed her arms.

“We’ll see.”

Dragonite flexed its claws, snow crunching beneath its feet.

“Dragonite!”

Ash could already see what she was thinking.

Georgia never held back.

“Pikachu!”

A voice suddenly cut across the battlefield.

“HEY!”

Both trainers looked toward the
Pokémon Center.

Several people were standing near the entrance, waving.

One of them called out again.

“You two are gonna miss the festival!”

Ash blinked.

“…Festival?”

Georgia sighed.

“You forgot?”

Ash rubbed the back of his neck.

“…Maybe.”

Georgia shook her head.

“There’s a winter festival tonight in town.”

Ash looked past the Pokémon Center.

Sure enough, strings of lights stretched between the buildings nearby.

Decorations hung across the streets.

Snow-covered stalls lined the plaza.

Ash’s eyes lit up.

“Oh cool!”

Georgia rolled her eyes.

“You really didn’t know.”

“I just got here!”

“Clearly.”

Ash looked back at Pikachu.

“Let’s finish the battle tomorrow.”

Pikachu nodded.

“Pika!”

Georgia returned Dragonite to its Poké Ball with a quiet click.

“Fine.”

Ash stretched his arms.

“Man, it’s been a while since we’ve battled like that.”

Georgia smirked slightly.

“You’re still reckless.”

“And you’re still bossy.”

“That’s because I’m right.”

Ash laughed.

“Sure you are.”

The two trainers started walking toward the plaza, Pikachu trotting along beside them.

Snowflakes drifted down around the glowing festival lights ahead.

Music and laughter echoed through the cold night air.

Ash looked around with his usual excitement.

“Wow.”

Georgia glanced sideways at him.

“…You’re easily impressed.”

“It’s festive!”

“It’s snow and lights.”

“Exactly!”

They stepped into the main plaza.

Stalls selling food and hot drinks lined the streets.

Kids ran past carrying sweets.

A group of trainers were decorating one of the archways at the edge of the square.

Ash looked up.

“…Hey.”

Georgia followed his gaze.

Right above the archway, a sprig of mistletoe hung from a red ribbon.

Georgia stopped walking.

“…Oh.”

Ash blinked.

“…Is that-”

“Yes.”

“The kissing thing?”

“Yes.”

Ash laughed nervously.

“…Right.”

They were standing directly underneath it.

Pikachu slowly looked up.

“…Pika.”

Georgia crossed her arms.

“Well.”

Ash scratched his cheek.

“…Well what?”

Her smirk slowly returned.

“You gonna run away, Ketchum?”

Ash blinked.

“I’m not running!”

Georgia tilted her head slightly.

“Then why are you still standing there like a stunned Magikarp?”

Ash laughed.

“…You’re impossible.”

“And you’re under the mistletoe.”

Ash looked up again.

Then back at her.

“…This is a trap.”

Georgia shrugged.

“You walked into it.”

Ash grinned.

“…You’re turning this into a rivalry thing, aren’t you?”

Georgia’s smirk widened.

“Everything with you is a rivalry thing.”

Pikachu quietly covered his mouth.

“Pika…”

Ash folded his arms.

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.”

Georgia leaned slightly closer.

“Well?”

Ash raised an eyebrow.

“Well what?”

She pointed upward.

“You know the rule.”

Ash laughed.

“…Oh this is gonna be a problem.”

And judging by the look on Georgia’s face, she was absolutely enjoying it.

Ash crossed his arms.

Georgia stood directly in front of him.

The mistletoe swayed lightly above the archway as snow continued drifting down around the busy festival plaza.

Neither of them moved.

Pikachu slowly turned his head between them.

“…Pika.”

Georgia tilted her head slightly, that familiar confident smirk still firmly in place.

“Well?”

Ash raised an eyebrow.

“Well what?”

“You gonna do something about it?”

Ash laughed.

“You’re the one acting like this is a challenge.”

“It is a challenge.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re standing under the mistletoe with me.”

Ash gestured around them.

“We could both just move.”

Georgia didn’t move.

“Or you could stop stalling.”

Ash blinked.

“…Stalling?”

“Yeah.”

She crossed her arms.

“You’re clearly trying to figure out an escape route.”

Ash laughed.

“I’m not escaping!”

“You absolutely are.”

“I’m not!”

“Then prove it.”

Ash stared at her.

“…Prove what?”

“That you’re not scared.”

Pikachu leaned toward Lucario, who had quietly appeared beside Georgia after she released him from his Poké Ball earlier.

“Pika…”

Lucario chuckled quietly.

Ash rubbed the back of his neck.

“I’m not scared.”

Georgia raised an eyebrow.

“Then why are you still standing there talking?”

Ash pointed upward.

“Because this is ridiculous!”

Georgia’s smirk widened.

“You’re the one who explained the rule.”

“I didn’t explain it!”

“You said it was the kissing thing.”

“That doesn’t mean we actually have to do it!”

Georgia leaned slightly closer.

“So you’re backing out.”

“I’m not backing out!”

“You’re backing out.”

“I’m not!”

Ash realized too late what had just happened.

She had maneuvered him straight into the argument.

Pikachu covered his mouth again.

“Pika pika…”

Ash sighed.

“You’re impossible.”

“Thanks.”

Ash glanced around the plaza.

More people were definitely noticing now.

A few trainers had slowed their walking.

Someone whispered something and pointed.

Ash groaned.

“…This is getting embarrassing.”

Georgia shrugged.

“Then leave.”

Ash opened his mouth, then stopped.

Because leaving would absolutely mean losing.

And Georgia knew it.

She watched his expression carefully.

Then smirked.

“…That’s what I thought.”

Ash folded his arms again.

“You’re enjoying this way too much.”

“Obviously.”

Snowflakes settled lightly on Georgia’s scarf as she looked up at the mistletoe again.

“Well?”

Ash sighed.

“Well what?”

“You’re still here.”

“So are you!”

“I never said I was leaving.”

Ash shook his head.

“…You’re turning this into a pride thing.”

“It already is a pride thing.”

Ash laughed.

“Only you would turn mistletoe into a rivalry battle.”

Georgia’s eyes gleamed.

“And you’re still playing along.”

Ash realized again she wasn’t wrong.

He had every opportunity to walk away.

And he hadn’t taken it.

Georgia stepped a little closer.

Not enough to break the distance between them.

But close enough that Ash could clearly see the challenge in her eyes.

“Well, Ketchum?”

Ash raised an eyebrow.

“What?”

“You gonna make the first move?”

Ash blinked.

“…Why would I?”

Georgia’s smirk sharpened.

“Because if you don’t…”

She leaned just slightly closer.

“…I will.”

Pikachu’s ears shot straight up.

“PIKA?!”

Ash stared at her.

“…You’re bluffing.”

Georgia tilted her head.

“You think so?”

Ash opened his mouth to answer.

Then paused.

Because Georgia almost never bluffed.

Which meant this standoff was about to end one of two ways.

Either Ash backed down, or Georgia decided she was done waiting.

And judging by the confident look on her face…

She wasn’t going to wait much longer.

The snow kept falling.

Soft flakes drifted past the glowing festival lights as the plaza hummed with music and chatter around them.

But under the archway, everything had gone strangely still.

Ash and Georgia stood exactly where they had been for the last several minutes.

Neither of them had backed down.

Pikachu shifted on Ash’s shoulder.

“…Pika.”

Ash sighed.

“I know.”

Across from him, Georgia looked entirely unbothered.

In fact, she looked entertained.

Her smirk hadn’t faded once.

“Well?” she said again.

Ash folded his arms.

“Well what?”

“You gonna do it or not?”

Ash blinked.

“…Do what?”

Georgia pointed upward without even looking.

“The rule.”

Ash glanced up at the mistletoe again.

Then, immediately looked back down.

“…You’re unbelievable.”

“You’ve said that already.”

“And it’s still true!”

Georgia shrugged.

“Then stop stalling.”

“I’m not stalling!”

“You’ve been talking for five minutes.”

Ash gestured wildly.

“Because you keep turning everything into a challenge!”

“That’s because everything with you is a challenge.”

Ash groaned.

Pikachu covered his mouth again.

“Pika pika…”

Georgia leaned against the archway post casually.

“You know what your problem is, Ketchum?”

Ash raised an eyebrow.

“Oh, this should be good.”

“You hesitate.”

“I do not hesitate!”

“You absolutely do.”

“I make strategic decisions!”

Georgia laughed.

“That’s a funny way to say hesitating.”

Ash crossed his arms again.

“You’re just trying to get under my skin.”

“It’s working.”

Ash opened his mouth, then stopped.

Because it was working.

Georgia tilted her head slightly.

“…See?”

Ash sighed.

“You’re impossible.”

“Still here though.”

Ash glanced around the plaza again.

Several people had definitely noticed the standoff now.

Two trainers near a food stall were openly watching.

Someone whispered something and laughed.

Ash groaned under his breath.

“This is ridiculous.”

Georgia’s eyes gleamed.

“Then end it.”

Ash blinked.

“…What?”

“You heard me.”

Ash stared at her.

“You want me to just-”

“Yes.”

Ash rubbed the back of his neck again.

“…You’re serious.”

“Completely.”

Ash looked up at the mistletoe again.

Then back at Georgia.

“…You’re enjoying this way too much.”

“Absolutely.”

Ash shook his head.

“You’re impossible.”

“You keep saying that.”

Ash sighed.

“…Fine.”

Georgia raised an eyebrow.

“…Fine?”

Ash stepped forward slightly.

“…If you’re that confident.”

Georgia’s smirk widened.

“Oh?”

Ash opened his mouth to say something, and that was when Georgia decided she had waited long enough.

“Too slow.”

She grabbed the front of his jacket.

And kissed him.

Quick.

Confident.

And completely unexpected.

Ash froze.

Pikachu’s eyes went wide.

“PIKA?!”

Georgia stepped back like nothing had happened.

She folded her arms again.

“There.”

Ash blinked.

“…You just-”

“Yep.”

“…You kissed me.”

“Yep.”

Ash stared at her.

“…You didn’t even hesitate.”

Georgia shrugged.

“You were taking forever.”

Ash ran a hand through his hair.

“…Wow.”

Georgia tilted her head.

“What?”

Ash laughed nervously.

“You’re unbelievable.”

“And you’re still under the mistletoe.”

Ash looked up again.

Then back at her.

“…You planned that.”

Georgia smirked.

“I adapted.”

Pikachu was absolutely losing it now.

“Pika pika pika!”

Lucario let out a deep amused rumble behind Georgia.

Ash pointed at her.

“You didn’t even give me a chance!”

“You had plenty of chances.”

“You didn’t wait!”

Georgia leaned closer again, clearly
enjoying his flustered reaction.

“Next time move faster.”

Ash shook his head, still half-laughing.

“…You’re impossible.”

“And you’re slow.”

Ash crossed his arms.

“Oh yeah?”

Georgia grinned.

“Yeah.”

Ash finally smiled.

“…You know what?”

“What?”

“That still counts as my win.”

Georgia blinked.

“…How?”

Ash shrugged.

“You made the first move.”

Georgia paused.

Then laughed.

“…You’re ridiculous.”

Ash grinned.

“Maybe.”

The snow kept falling around them as the festival lights sparkled across the plaza.

And judging by Georgia’s competitive smile, this rivalry had just gotten a lot more interesting.

For a moment after the kiss, Ash just stood there.

Snow drifted down slowly through the festival lights, soft flakes catching in Pikachu’s fur as the plaza buzzed quietly around them.

Then the world came back all at once.

A couple nearby trainers burst into laughter.

Someone clapped.
Another voice called out-

“About time!”

Ash’s face turned bright red.

“Oh come on!”

Pikachu doubled over laughing on his shoulder.

“Pika pika pika!”

Georgia looked completely unbothered.

In fact, she looked pleased with herself.

She adjusted her scarf and glanced casually around the plaza.

“Well that got people’s attention.”

Ash stared at her.

“That’s your takeaway?!”

Georgia shrugged.

“You’re the one who froze.”

“I didn’t freeze!”

“You froze.”

“I was processing!”

“That’s freezing.”

Ash ran a hand through his hair.

“You just grabbed me!”

“You were taking forever!”

Ash pointed toward the archway.

“You set that whole thing up!”

“I did not!”

“You absolutely did!”

Georgia rolled her eyes.

“You walked under the mistletoe yourself, genius.”

Ash opened his mouth, then paused.

“…Okay fair.”

Georgia smirked.

“Thought so.”

Pikachu leaned toward Lucario, whispering something that made the bigger Pokémon rumble with amusement.

Ash groaned.

“Great. Even the Pokémon are laughing at me.”

Georgia stepped a little closer again.

“You’re being dramatic.”

“I am not!”

“You absolutely are.”

Ash folded his arms.

“…You’re enjoying this way too much.”

Georgia shrugged again.

“Maybe.”

Ash looked up at the mistletoe once more.

“…You know this doesn’t mean you won.”

Georgia raised an eyebrow.
“Oh?”

Ash pointed at her.

“You made the first move.”

“And?”

“That means you cracked first.”

Georgia blinked.

“…What?”

Ash grinned now.

“You couldn’t wait.”

Georgia narrowed her eyes.

“That’s not what happened.”

“That’s exactly what happened.”

“You were stalling!”

“You panicked.”

“I did not panic!”

Ash laughed.

“You panicked.”

Georgia took a step closer, eyes flashing with competitive energy.

“I did not panic.”

Ash folded his arms again.

“You absolutely did.”

Pikachu whispered dramatically,

“Pika…”

Lucario leaned closer to watch the argument.

Georgia jabbed a finger at Ash’s chest.

“Next time-”

Ash raised an eyebrow.

“Next time?”

Georgia smirked.

“Next time I won’t wait.”

Ash laughed.

“You didn’t wait this time!”

“Exactly.”

Ash shook his head.

“You’re impossible.”

“You keep saying that.”

Ash grinned.

“Because it’s true.”

The tension between them shifted slightly then.

Still competitive.

Still teasing.

But lighter somehow.

Georgia turned and started walking toward the festival stalls.

“You coming or what?”

Ash blinked.

“…Where?”

“To get food.”

“You’re just walking away from that whole situation?”

Georgia glanced back over her shoulder.

“What situation?”

Ash gestured wildly at the mistletoe behind them.

“That situation!”

Georgia shrugged again.

“You’re the one making a big deal out of it.”

Ash laughed.

“…Unbelievable.”

She started walking again.

“You still owe me a rematch tomorrow.”

Ash followed after her.

“You say that like I lost.”

“You did.”

“How?!”

“You hesitated.”

“I did not hesitate!”

Georgia smirked.

“Keep telling yourself that.”

Ash shook his head, smiling.

Pikachu leaned against his cheek.

“Pika.”

Ash glanced up at the snow falling across the festival lights.

“…You know what?”

“What?”

Ash grinned.

“Next time I’m winning.”

Georgia laughed.

“We’ll see about that.”

And judging by the way neither of them looked even slightly finished arguing, that rivalry wasn’t ending anytime soon.
